President Buhari and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi during the commissioning of the $1.457b Abuja-Kaduna rail
Abuja—Minister of Transportation, Mr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday, disclosed that the Federal Government has concluded plans to award the contract for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project
Amaechi, who said this at the one year memorial lecture in honour of former General Secretary of Alliance for Credible Election, ACE-Nigeria, late Comrade Emma Ezeazu, in Abuja, said contracts for Kano-Kaduna and Calabar-Port Harcourt railway projects would also be signed before the end of this week. The memorial lecture with theme: ‘Advancing the Frontiers of Progressive Governance’, was organised by Emma Ezeazu Mandate Group. The former governor of Rivers State, explained that “the President’s agenda is not just to recover loots. We are recovering as much as we can. But the president is determined to create employment. That is why you can see his focus. In transportation, from Kaduna to Abuja, we have created over 700 workforce. What did I do? I said all the villages or those communities along the route; I said they should give them level six down.” Speaking further, he said “their job is to march on that railway from the beginning to the end to see there was no security breach. The rest of the applicants will go online to apply for the jobs. They said if we publish it, people will die the way it happened during immigration recruitment exercise and they will say Amaechi should resign. “This year, we will start the Lagos-Ibadan, railway project. You know the difference between us and the rest, we will not say ‘go and start’, we will look for counterpart funding.” On how the project will be funded, he said “We will bring our counterpart fund as poor as the country is now and give to the Chinese because their money is already in their bank account. It is for us to bring our own. If we bring our own, they bring their own to make sure there is no delay, we will bring all our own to give them and say ‘go and start work’.” “If that happened in two years, the Lagos-Ibadan will be ready. Tomorrow, I will sign the contracts for Calabar-Port Harcourt railway project. Before the week runs out, I will sign Kano-Kduna. That is what we are doing. This is to show you that we are moving away from the corruption economy to production economy.”

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg says he has tried some Nigerian food since he arrived here yesterday and he’s thoroughly enjoyed them. According to him, Nigerian jollof rice, shrimp and snail, tasted delicious when he tried them. He ended by saying he has been informed not to compare our Jollof rice with that of any other African country..i.e, Ghana. lol.

We’ve just confirmed that Mark Zuckerberg is at the CoCreation Hub, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria at this very moment. Apparently, he arrived this afternoon and is meeting witha few key players in the Nigerian tech ecosystem.
Mark was in Rome with his wife, Priscilla, until a few hours ago (according to his Facebook page). He held a Q&A session, visited the Pope and did a few “touristy” things. This visit to Nigeria wasn’t announced so you’ll permit if I go off into speculation.
There’s been a lot of Facebook-related development in Nigeria so there’s a ton of reasons why Mark may be visiting. First, Free Basics launched in Nigeria and Markshowed his support for the Jobberman team. Then the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiativeinvested $24 million in Andela. Facebook’s developer workshop is happening tomorrow, and yesterday, we reported that Facebook is partnering with Cool Link to launch Express Wifi in Lagos some time this week.
I reckon Mark is in Nigeria to kill all these birds – visit Jobberman, the Andela team he’s invested in, attend the developer workshop, launch Express Wifi AND have policy-centred conversations with the Nigerian government to further Facebook’s cause.
You’ll know more when we know more.

It was amazing working with Patience Ozokwo, Van Vicker and Nonso Ozokwo. The movie was directed by award winning international Nollywood Director / Cinematographer Nelson Spyk.
It was a wonderful experience, and I must say it is a fantastic film. I will be going into production with advice from great producers as the aforementioned names. The aim for my production will be to encourage our youth both home and abroad to be able to pursue their passion in the arts. “Why Marry?” premiere’s Fri Oct 7 at Odeon Imax Greenwich London.”

NIGER Delta Avengers, NDA, have denied reports that they had nominated Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, to head their dialogue team with the Federal Government, describing same as the lie of the century.
The group also accused the Okah brothers, both of whom are serving jail terms in Nigerian and South African prisons, of using disorganised All Progressives Congress, APC, characters from the Niger Delta region to impress the “powers that be at Abuja.” Meanwhile, four Ijaw and Niger Delta rights groups, have said that they would not subscribe to Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, ordering the form and structure of the region’s dialogue team with the Federal Government, adding that the group should not give any condition to Niger Delta leaders. The groups, Niger Delta Security Watch Organisation of Nigeria, led by Dickson Bekederemo, Ijaw Human Rights Monitors, headed by Fred Brisibe, Ijaw People Development Initiative coordinated by Austin Ozobo and Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, led by Alaowei Cleric, stated this in a joint statement in Warri, Delta State. Also, acting Secretary General of Gbaramatu Traditional Council, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, said: “Niger Delta does not belong to MEND alone. It is unacceptable for MEND alone to have three delegates and three for other groups in the region. “A dialogue team that includes Niger Delta leaders is the team we initiated at Effurun, near Warri, Delta State, not the one dictated by warlords to me. It is an aberration, but our leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has spoken and he has all the best answers to the issues.”
Meanwhile, NDA, in a statement, yesterday, by their spokesperson, Mudoch Agbinibo, while reiterating their support for the Chief Clark-led Niger Delta Elders and Stakeholders conference committee to lead the pan-Niger Delta negotiations/dialogue team, said that it was ready for talks whenever the Federal Government was ready. He said: “The NDA cannot be teleguided by Charles Okah and Henry Okah from their respective prison cells using disorganised characters of the APC from the Niger Delta to impress Abuja. “We are not unaware of the creations of the Nigerian intelligentsia community and security apparatus to sustain the Niger Delta struggle to bloat their pocket and credibility. “We are amazed that Prof. Wole Soyinka has been taken on the jugular by enemies of the Niger Delta because of his belief that the government of the day should understand the need to restructure the country and listen to the Niger Delta agitation positively. “That, we, the NDA, have named Prof Soyinka and some incredible names to advise and lead any group, is the lie of the century. The handwriting is so clear that our nobel laureate’s name is going the infamous way, as he is being named as an adviser with some unscrupulous characters as NDA dialogue team with the government of Nigeria. “Putting the records straight, the name/names parading as factions of the Niger Delta Avengers are just the figments of the imaginations of some persons protecting their jobs and hell bent on derailing the wheel of progress in the history of Nigeria and the Niger Delta agitation.” However, the four groups commended MEND “for accepting the leadership of Chief Clark.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that Nigerians must be prepared to protect and develop the country at all times. He said that the current challenges Nigerians were facing were transient as the country would definitely overcome them and urged Christians to continue to pray for the country. Jonathan stated this at the public presentation of a book entitled The History of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke, his home town, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. According to him, the essence of history was to know how societies or clans evolved and emerged, adding that there was need to capture the spread of Christianity in communities in the Niger Delta. He appealed to indigenes of Otuoke to read the book and volunteer additional information for the next edition. The former President also eulogised the book reviewer, Professor Emeritus, Ebiegberi Alagoa, for his contributions to the documentation of the history of the Niger Delta. Unveiling the book, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (retd), deputy governor of Bayelsa State, who represented Governor Seriake Dickson, said that the book would engender the spiritual upliftment of those who read it.
