The spokesman of the Party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said the party will fight to reclaim it’s mandate to the press at the end of its expanded National Executive Council in Abuja yesterday, 26 January, 2017.
According to Vanguard, Prince Adeyeye who was reacting to the defection of some it’s members in the National Assembly to the ruling All Progressive Congress recently reiterated that the party will challenge such defections. He stated that the party was re-positioning itself to regain power in 2019 since the APC government has failed Nigerians. While regretting the negative impact the leadership crisis was having on the party in the discharge of its responsibilities as a party in opposition, Prince Adeyeye said it would not be discouraged in carrying out its duties.
He further explained that it is unfortunate that some of their party members are being used to destabilize the party but they will remain focused. “We will resolve this crisis and move ahead with our vision and mission for Nigeria ” he said.
The chairman of the caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Malaria enjoined the leaders of the party in the states not to be distracted by the leadership challenge at the National level but to remain focused on mobilising the people at the grass root.
Senator Malaria who prayed for the speedy recovery of President Muhammad Buhari said with the impending ruling on the court of appeal in Portharcourt, he was sure that the party will bounce back in full force.
The meeting was attended by some PDP governors, members of the National Assembly, former governors, as well as former ministers.

Award-winning Nollywood actress, Georgina Onuoha took to her Instagram to lay her concern regarding the issue between fellow Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie and Kemi Olunloyo, the daughter of former Governor of Oyo state. The popular Nigerian Novelist Florence Onyebuchi “Buchi” was found dead in her sleep January 25, 2017 at her care home in London. The Nigerian author whose 20 novels mined her experience as a black single mother in Britain to produce work that inspired a generation of black British writers, has died at the age of 72. The author’s work encompassed adult and children’s fiction, as well as plays.
Buchi Emecheta was born in Lagos in 1944, she moved to England in 1960 with her husband Sylvester Onwordi, to whom she had been engaged from the age of 11. Her 1974 autobiographical novel Second Class Citizen described their unhappy and sometimes violent marriage, which included his burning manuscripts of her work. At the age of 22, Emecheta left her husband and worked to support herself and five children. During this time, she completed a sociology degree at the University of London and contributed a column to the New Statesman about black British life. The columns formed the basis of her 1972 book Into the Ditch.
She used her experience to inform her fiction, her works which touched Nigerian society . However, a stroke in 2010 halted her writing. In her later years, with her son Sylvester, Emecheta ran the publishing house Ogwugwu Afor, which published her work.
Fellow African writers came up to pay tribute to her, inluding her friend and Publisher Margaret Busby. They described Emecheta as an inspiration, not just for pioneering a route into literature for other black women, but for tackling domestic abuse. We pray that her soul will rest in peace for she was a great inspiration to Africans and black women.

The recent attack of the Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram against Christians has forced a Catholic Priest to protect himself with an assault rifle. All this for protection. The Reverend Father who posed with an assault rifle has caused a frenzy on social media.
As Nigeria continues to face different problems, the time has come for people to look for ways to protect themselves because the government is too busy trying to solve economic problems than help protect its citizens.

Harmattan bid us farewell with a reminder that it will be back coming December, but we met a very hot weather this January. Dehydration is a constant reminder of the beauty of the scorching sun which can possibly affect our skin, making it very dry. And dry skin is not beautiful because it creates cracks on your skin and makes you look old. You possibly might have tried different body creams but the dry skin is too stubborn and refuse to leave. Not to worry, here are some tips that will help when moisturizing and taking care of your skin.
1. Use a gentle moisturizer on a daily basis.
2. While taking a shower or washing your face, ensure that the water is lukewarm and not hot. Hot water can sap moisture from the skin.
3. Do not use harsh soaps or body washes because this can make your skin dry and dull.
4. Use a moisturizer that is universal for all skin types or is for your specific skin type.
5. Every part of your body is important. You need to use both facial and body moisturizers.
6. Use a moisturizer with SPF in it or a sunblock on top of the moisturizer to protect your skin from UV damage.
7. Knowing what suits your skin and what doesn’t is essential. Conduct a patch test if you are unsure about any ingredient in the home remedies and drink lots of water to help hydrate your skin.

Nigeria’s economy so far has been a bad turnover with the rise in price of every commodity in the market. Ever since the renouncement of the state of the economy to be in recession, 50% of Nigerians have been forced to adjust to the demands of the current economic crisis with the incessant rise in price. While most have been forced to stay at home due to retrenchment in various companies and lack of sales, Nigeria’s economy doesn’t seem to be in a promising phase. Although, many are discouraged by the ugliness of the country’s economy, all hope is not lost. There are other ways that Nigerians can adapt and still live a good life regardless of the frown the economy is looking at us. With so many business ventures to establish with little or no capital, one can still smile in these rainy days and even in the sunny days as they are not affected by the economic meltdown.
Here are some interesting and profitable business ideas that will interest you;
Food and beverages
I love the food business because no matter the economic situation; people must eat and Nigerians love to eat. But I am not talking about pooling your hard earned money and starting a restaurant business; although if that seems like a possible thing to do, it just might work.
However, going into the restaurant business still has its risk and a very high one at that. Instead, you might consider going into a food and beverage business by focusing on offering healthier stuffs. These days, going into a recession is even a better excuse to eat healthy because it encourages people to cut down on their consumption and to avoid unnecessary purchases.
Organic food products
Most of the food products available nowadays are harmful to health because they have either been preserved with chemicals that are harmful or they are not pesticide free. And people are becoming more aware of the health benefits of pesticide-free farm produce such as vegetables, fruits, sauces, condiments, and so on. So, you can start a small farm and adopt strictly organic methods, which would be your unique selling point.
You can also consider alternative menus that are tasty and creative or specialized cafes and diners or even start up your own vegetable shop. Concept plus good taste are usually the best ingredients to a successful recession proof food business.
Bakery
People will always take snacks and fast foods, regardless of the economic trends. So, if you start a business that produces cookies, bread, pastries, cakes, and so on, you will have a steady stream of income. You can easily expand your services to restaurants, schools, cafeterias, cafes etc where you are bound to get many customers. Even if you are not good at baking, consider hiring one or two individuals for a start.
Laundry services
Even in tough times, people want to look clean and good. And they will manage to squeeze out some bucks just for that. So, starting a laundry business is a very good idea, as it is also immune to the harsh effects of economic meltdowns. To start this business, you will need a washing machine, dryers, pressing irons, etc and you may need to hire one or two people. It is very easy to set up as it doesn’t need a large capital.
Security services
When the economy is grim, people get frustrated. And out of desperation to get some quick bucks, they indulge in various forms of crime, especially burglary. Even when the economy is smiling, homeowners and owners of other valuable property hire security guards to protect their assets. And this becomes even more necessary during recession. So, the demand for security guards is always on the high.
Vet services
Most people love pets and could spend any amount to keep them healthy. So, starting a business that renders veterinary services is a good way to make steady profit. Even if you are not a vet, you can hire one to work with you.
Health care services
Regardless of the times, someone somewhere will always be in need of good, professional health service. This is an industry that has experienced some significant growth over the last few years. And it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down any time soon.
If you have the resources, training, manpower and capital; then becoming involved in a business that offers health services will assure you of a comfortable market. Consider businesses that focus on offering affordable preventive solutions to people, alternative health care and home health.
Contraceptives
Couples enjoy sex all the time even though they don’t want babies most of the time. Similarly, teens and young adults engage in casual sex all the time. These are the reasons why there is always a huge demand for contraceptives; whether or not the economy is fine. So, if you start a business that focuses on selling contraceptive devices and pills, you will never feel the impact of a recession.
Cosmetics
People apply cosmetics religiously. In fact, some people apply their facial treatments and make-ups several times a day. Of course, recession is no excuse for anyone to look ugly. So, people will always pay the price for retaining their good looks. A cosmetic business is, therefore, a money-spinner anytime.
Garbage or waste collection
Though this may seem a dirty job, it’s a very lucrative one that is immune to the adverse effects of recession. People always need to dispose of wastes and garbage, and they usually find this difficult. If you start a business that relieves them of this hardship, you will make lots of profit in return.
Funeral services
Yes, this is a recession proof business, morbid as it may sound. It deals with an inevitability, which means you will never run out of customers. Funeral services get a steady stream of income no matter how the economy is performing.
People die every day, and the only way for people to give their dead ones a befitting burial is to engage the services of funeral homes. So, the economy doesn’t have an impact on the fortune of funeral services. You could either get involved in selling services or offering related products. Cremation service, which has increased in popularity in the last few years, is also a good option.
Repair services
Repair services are also recession proof businesses. There will always be people whose kitchen sinks clog, whose air-conditioning breaks down , whose roof starts leaking or whose car suffers from overheating. What these mean is pure business opportunity, even when economic times seem shaky. And even if potential clients try to delay much needed repair, they will still come to you for help eventually.
But it’s worthwhile you note that many, if not all, of these businesses require specialized training, skills and equipment. However, once you have these resources, you will have access to a recession proof business that does not only offer a potential for high margins, it’s also a venture that won’t require you to wait too long for a return on your investment. Provided your services are tops, it’s likely that you could be in business for a very long time.
Tutoring
Whether you are good at teaching academic subjects or vocational skills, you will always get people who would pay to learn from you if you start a tutoring business. Start by approaching potential students in your neighbourhood and telling them about your tutoring service. Probably later, you will advertise using broader media.
In conclusion, if you are looking to start a business that would guarantee peace of mind even when other businesses are facing hard times, consider any of the businesses discussed above. But before venturing into any business, it’s very important that you find out more about it to know the likely challenges you may face as well as other necessary information about it.

The popular Nigerian singer and activist Tuface Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Baba seems to be tired of the Federal government’s reluntance to find solution to the recession in the country. The artiste took to Instagram on Wednesday to voice out his plans to hold a Nationwide protest. He called out to fellow Nigerians to rise against the current situation of the country. The protest will be the first nationwide protest will hold on the 5th of February.
Tuface Idibia wrote:
FIRST MASSIVE NATIONWIDE PROTESTS ON THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY, 2017.
“A call for good governance.
A call for urgent explanation into the reckless economic downturn nationwide.
A call for nationwide protests as we say No to the Executive, No to legislatures, No to judiciary… You have all failed us.
We the people are tired. We can no longer continue with all of you. All your excuses and mistakes are not funny. We do not wish to continue with a system and government that is not working but afflicting the people. We the people of this country not living under the privileges of government allowances and remuneration have now accepted to take the bull by the horn to come out and protest this obnoxious and baseless policies and excuses of the government of the day.
Where are the recovered looted funds?
Why do we still have the executive arms and legislatures still enjoying their salaries and allowances while we hear there’s no money to pay workers?
Why do we still see ceaseless power failures with no explanation and hope of getting out of it unlike before?
Why do we keep seeing peace talks in Niger Delta, fulani heardsmen and ipob without any solutions being reached, while the strategies keeps aggravating the people involved as political leaders stage forums to extort funds in the name of addressing their subjects?
Why did we have petrol price rise to 145 for the sake of global oil price crash and removal of subsidy but such price is still being maintained despite significant re-awakening of the oil price from $30/barrel to $56/barrel?
Who is to be held accountable for the sudden and continuous hike in price of commodities in the market, where for the first time in history, Nigeria is suddenly selling kerosene at 400 naira per litre as against 50 naira per litre, diesel at 300 naira per litre as against 100 naira per litre and petrol from 87 naira to 145 naira? Yet maintaining the same systems, environment and maybe a lesser money spending government.
There’s need for Nigerians to rise against what is happening in this country having waited patiently for the legislatures that were elected to represent the people all to no avail.”
Two other artistes, Burna boy and Davido have decided to join him in the protest. They commented on his post on Instagram that they will support him and join the protest. Tuface voicing out will likely encourage Nigerians who have been sitting silently in anger because of the present economic situation to join this protest and voice out their minds to the government.
