An old tube of mascara. An off-colored foundation. An out-of-style eyeshadow palette. Every woman’s makeup bag, probably, has one or two (or three) products that she just can’t seem to throw away. It’s time to take out your trash cans, though, because makeup has an expiration date! While many products contain preservatives that kill common bacteria, they can’t fight it fast enough, when make-up is exposed to air and, thus, leaving your face unprotected from airborne bacteria. And, of course, makeup that sits around for years won’t provide the same coverage or color, as it once did. For these reasons, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of makeup expiration dates that will help you keep your bag clean and your skin clear.

1. Mascara shelf life
Throw it away every three months
Mascara is, perhaps, the biggest offender, when it comes to germs, because it’s tube is very often opened, closed and exposed to airborne bacteria. Because the mascara wand works so closely with the eyes, it’s also prone to holding onto the bacteria that can cause eye’s itchiness, redness or even conjunctivitis. If you’ve, somehow, got an eye irritation, you should stop using eye makeup until you’re completely cleared of the virus.

2. Foundation expiration date
Throw it away every one to two years, depending on the product’s base
The life of foundation can vary, depending on it’s formula: liquid or powder; oil-based formulas, for example, tend to break down faster, than their more solid counterparts. Regardless, it’s important to throw your foundation away, once it starts to separate, change colors, smell different or thicken.

3. How long to keep an eyeliner?
Throw it away every three months to two years
Like mascara, gel- and liquid-based eyeliners should be replaced every three months, considering how much they’re in contact with your eyes. However, pencil liners can be used for up to two years, as long as they’re regularly sharpened and refreshed.

7. Body Lotion
Throw it away every two years
Body lotions’ in jars shelf life tend to expire faster, than that of lotions in bottles with pumps, as the latter protects its contents from any contact with airborne bacteria. Either way, lotion, typically, shows that it’s expired by changing its color or scent.

Here are 7 simple tips to help you do just that:

Wash your vagina as often as possible. Vaginal odour is one of the worst problems a woman can face. To prevent this, wash at least twice a day with a gentle, unscented soap. Make sure you wash the pubic hair around the vagina. They usually retain sweat and dirt which in turn can create foul odour.

Give your vagina a regular haircut or shave. Some people crave a hairy vagina, but keeping too much vaginal hair is not so wise.
Truth is, the shorter the vaginal hair, the lower the chances of odour and infections. Women who have the time to constantly clean up may not have a problem with this. This is not always so if your hygiene standards are high. But shorter is cleaner and better.

Let our vagina breathe with the right lingerie. Use the right lingerie which will allow air around your vagina because, leaving the area damp leaves you open to a bacterial invasion. Cotton underwear is preferably to nylon and other airless fabric.
Get medical help once you notice an infection. It is not wise to watch a vaginal infection develop. Once you notice an itch, strange colouration of vaginal (menstrual) emissions, strange feelings or noticeable signs of infections — say foul odour, rashes or boils, head to the hospital. The danger of leaving infections untreated goes beyond odours. Your fertility as woman is also at risk.

Change your underwear regularly. A woman should never wear an underwear item for more than a day. Vaginal secretions make it totally unhealthy, damp and a ready ground for bacteria to multiply. This is even more important during menstruation.
No perfumes around the vagina. If you have odour around the vagina, spraying perfume will not help you. Perfume will make matters worse by causing a PH imbalance which is not good. So the best option is to up your hygiene.

Make your vagina taste sweet with good food. It has been proven that what you eat affects the taste of your vaginal juices. So eat the right kind of fruits, especially those high in natural sugar— oranges, apples, mangoes etc. They have a positive effect on vaginal taste, same as with yoghurt and honey. On the other hand, avoid fruits and vegetables that give bad breath — like onions, garlic. They have an equally negative effect on vaginal taste, just like alcohol, coffee and spicy food.

A bonus tip is to use baby wipes instead of the usual tissue paper after a visit to the toilet.

According to Leadership, a source disclosed on Wednesday, February 8, that except there would be any last minute change, all is set for President Buhari’s return.
The source, a senior official in the presidency, who spoke in confidence with newsmen, simply said: “Barring any last minute change, we are expecting the president back this weekend, probably on Saturday.”

It was also gathered that the president had on Tuesday this week cancelled an interview with a foreign media organisation, but may possibly grant an interview in London before the weekend.

Another source in the presidency also said that President Buhari “had already packed his bags to leave on Sunday but was advised by his doctors to wait and get results of some tests he conducted before leaving that country.”

“I can confidently tell you that Mr. President might still be there (in London) because he has to succumb to the superior knowledge of physicians who conducted medical checks on him, but his mind is in Nigeria,” he added.

On rumours that he is incapacitated, the source who preferred not to be named in print because he is not in a position to officially speak on the matter said, “What else do you expect from people? If it were to be other past presidents who go on vacation or medical checkup without official notification, there wouldn’t have been room for such rumour.

“But this is a president who is determined to remain transparent in whatever he does in office. Don’t forget that this is not the first time His Excellency is embarking on a vacation outside the shores of the country.”

Naij.com had earlier reported that the special adviser on media and publicity to the president, Mr Femi Adesina, had on Tuesday said the president may return to Nigeria sooner than expected.

President Buhari had on Sunday written to the National Assembly, informing lawmakers of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed observed yesterday that it was ridiculous for anyone to compare President Buhari’s health condition with that of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Mohammed who spoke after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa was joined by the ministers of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh and Trade & Investment, Okechukwu Enemelah. His position came two days after Osinbajo had replied those insisting on knowing the health status of the president, that only the president could disclose the status of his health.

Echoing the acting president’s position, the information minister insisted that the president was hale and hearty, just as he assured that Buhari was well and that he was absolutely in no danger.

Learn To Pack Lightly: Packing lightly is an art. Unless you’re walking a runway in Milan, you won’t need more than just a few key ensembles. The folks over at Apartment Therapy stick to this rule-of-thumb: If you’re going away for one week, pack three bottoms and 3 shirts per bottom. For two weeks pack five bottoms. For every dress you pack, you can lose a shirt and a bottom.

Nix The Change Purse: Change purses can be useful, but if yours rarely sees daylight, either because you don’t put change in it, or worse, never take change out of it (this is just dead weight), then it’s time to say goodbye.

Body Shapers: Thank goodness body shaping has evolved from Victorian waspies to Spanx (after all, we want you to be able to breathe). Body shapers are ideal for hiding excess bulge (who likes the sight of love handles or muffin tops?) and allows clothes to glide on smoothly.

Limit Accessories: We love accessories, but we have to draw the line somewhere. If you’re throwing yourself an arm party, then it might be better to steer clear of too many rings. If you’re wearing large earrings that scream for attention, then you might want to forgo an equally radiant necklace — they will only work against each other.

Purse Essentials: A purse isn’t just a fashion statement. It’s main purpose is functional. You carry it around wherever you go so it needs to contain some essentials: your wallet, a pen, pain killers, hand sanitizer, tissues, make-up essentials (we personally won’t leave the house without lip stick and/or lip balm), hand cream, gum or breath mints, tampons or maxi pads (no one wants to be caught off guard during that time of the month), and for those of you who spend lengthy bouts talking, texting or gaming, bring your phone charger along.

When In Doubt, Overdress: There’s nothing worse than showing up an event underdressed. Maybe the invite didn’t specify or involved the word casual — but everyone else dressed up not so casually. If you don’t know what the dress code is, overdress. There’s no harm in looking too pulled together, but you’ll feel uncomfortable if you think you look out of place.

Wear Nice Underwear: Wearing nice underwear every day will make you feel special. Sure, not everyone gets to be so lucky and see how nice your underwear is, but you’ll know. Also, be sure to get your bras fitted — often. It will make your clothes hang better and be infinitely more comfortable.

Sharpen Your Sewing Skills: Have a mini sewing kit at home or in your purse. This way you can salvage your favourite blouse or pair of pants by patching up minor tears with some simple needle and thread action.

Get Some Stay-Up Thigh-Highs: Sometimes pantyhose creates an unsightly bulge around our mid-section (ladies, you know what we’re talking about). To eliminate this altogether, why not use substitute pantyhose with stay-up thigh-highs? They’ll do exactly what pantyhose does, minus the bulge.

Use Nail Polish To Stop A Tear In Its Tracks: Pantyhose is notorious for ripping. We’ve been victim to this fashion mishap one too many times. Until someone invents pantyhose that won’t tear at the slightest tug, we’ve got a temporary fix. Just dab clear nail polish on both ends of the rip and it should keep it from getting larger.

Work Clothes Need Not Be Frumpy: Just because you have to dress office casual doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. Find well-tailored pieces and incorporate accessories and colour to create a more exciting look.

Take Care Of Your Undergarments: To extend the longevity of your bra and ensure a perfect fit each time, you’ll need to take care of them properly. The experts at La Vie En Rose recommend you wash your bras by hand to ensure they lasts as long as possible. If you opt for machine washing, unhook your bra to prevent it from twisting and turning. You may also want to use a wash bag which will separate and protect your bras from the rest of your clothes. Make sure you select a delicate or permanent press cycle, and whatever you do, do not use detergent. It’s way too harsh and will damage the cup, lace and elasticity of your bra. Invest in a quality wallet, one that reflects your signature style.

Don’t Overdo Belts: The belt is meant to give you a waist or hold your pants up. There are times however, the belt should be left at home. If an outfit is already fitted, there is no need for a belt. If you are wearing pants but feeling like belting the shirt, it looks a little odd. Use belts sparingly rather than often.

Pretty PJs: You’ve spent all day looking lovely, so why not go to bed looking pretty too? Falling asleep is all about comfort so rest assured, pretty pajamas don’t mean uncomfortable ones. Lose the oversized shirt or baggy sweats for lightweight pajama bottoms and top. Who knows? You might sleep easier.

Less Really Is More: Indecent exposure isn’t classy. Celebrity stylist Jen Rade, who has dressed many beauties including Angelina Jolie, told In Style that only one body part should be exposed at a time. They will come in handy when you either have absolutely nothing to wear or when you’re in a rush to pull an outfit together. Try Everything On: Make sure you always try clothes on when you shop. Yes, we get lazy doing this over and over again but it’s a necessary evil. Sizes change depending on fabric, designer and store. You might also want to bring along your own accessories and shoes (or use some at the store) to get a better sense of how the complete outfit will look. You’ll also save yourself the hassle of returning or exchanging an outfit that doesn’t look right if you try it on before buying it.

Don’t Pretend It Fits: We’ve all been there, standing in the dressing room and convincing ourselves that the button will magically stay closed when we get home (and then, of course, it doesn’t). These are the times where we have to accept that our bodies have changed in one way or another, and buy clothes that fit. Because you know what happens to the clothes that don’t fit (cue garbage bags being dropped off at Goodwill here).

Go Green: Green is this year’s hottest hue according to Pantone so go wild. If you’re not a fan of it (or colour in general), try incorporating it into your outfits in small doses with a green purse or some green accessories like a scarf or bracelet.

Acne is bad, for some people acne is a constant companion throughout their entire life. If you’ve tried all the creams and potions out there and have applied as many toxic, skin stripping chemicals to your face as you can stand, then try some of these more natural, alternative, home remedies for acne and pimples instead:

1. Lemon
Lemons contain a high concentration of citric acid, which attacks the bacteria that causes acne. Try cutting a lemon in half and gently rubbing your spots with lemon juice (apply lemon juice only on acne spots, avoid applying it on your entire face, as it can be too harsh). If it stings, that’s good! It means that it is working. Rinse your face with lukewarm water in 5-10 minutes.

2. Baking Soda
Mix water and baking soda in equal parts to create a paste and apply to the surface of each spot with a cotton bud and wash it off ten minutes later. The baking soda will help to dry and close up the pores.

3. Wash with Honey
Honey has antibacterial properties but doesn’t dry out the skin. Gently massage some honey into your face in the mornings and rinse with lukewarm water. (This treatment is not recommended for sensitive skin.)

4. Strawberries and Yogurt
Strawberries are a natural source of salicylic acid, which is an ingredient found in many commercial acne remedies. Mix some crushed strawberries with a few tea spoons of natural yogurt and leave on your skin for around 5-10 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.

5. Tea Tree Oil
One of the most efficient and well known home remedies for acne is Tea Tree oil. This oil is well known for its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and is a recommended treatment for mild to moderate outbreaks of acne. Apply it on your acne spots (only on your acne spots) and leave it work its magic overnight.

6. Keeping your towels and linen clean
Be sure to regularly change your bed linen and towels, as the bacteria that causes acne can build up here and be spread to other areas of your skin.

7. Papaya
Raw papaya is a great and natural acne treatment that can help remove dead cells from skin surface, leaving your skin soft and glowing. Papaya also helps reduce inflammation. Mash up some papaya flesh (you can also use your blender), apply it on your clean skin for about 10 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.
8. Try mint leaves
Crush mint leaves into a paste and mix it with slightly warmed up honey. Apply this mixture on your clean face for 5-10 minutes, then rinse off.

9. Crushed aspirin
Aspirin can help reduce inflammation and prevent your pimples from expanding. Mix crushed aspirin with a little bit of honey, apply this treatment on your acne spots and wait for 5-10 minutes, then rinse.
Some of these ideas may seem a bit wacky, like walking around in the morning with strawberries and yogurt plastered to your face, but sometimes natural home remedies are better and far gentler on your skin, than harsh, man-made chemicals.
(Make sure you are not allergic to these natural skin care products and ingredients before trying any of these treatments.)

10. Ice Cubes
If you have spots that are especially swollen and red, ice can be a great way to reduce inflammation and reduce the appearance of blemishes. Just rub an ice cube on the trouble spots,and not only will your pores close up, the bacteria will be pushed out as well. Win/Win!

And my final tip would be: if your acne problems persist, I recommend visiting a dermatologist, as they are very experienced and can quickly find solutions to your particular problem.
