Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Wednesday, lamented that the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing led by ex-Lagos Governor, Babatunde Fashola, is frustrating the state government’s plan to reconstruct the Lagos Airport Road from the Oshodi end.
He also said the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing is also frustrating the planned handover of the Presidential Lodge to Lagos long after Pres. Buhari approved the handing over of the project.
According to him, “The road linking Oshodi to the International Airport, you would all agree with me is a national embarrassment.
In the spirit of the regeneration and urbanisation that this administration has set out to achieve, we believe strongly that the image that is exhumed by the decadence of that road must be repaired and we took it upon ourselves to appropriate the 2017 budget that the House of Assembly should approve its total reconstruction.
The State currently has a design of 10 lanes to come from Oshodi to the International Airport with interchange and flyover that would drop you towards the Local Airport.
The contractor is already set to go and everything as I said has been completed and we already have the cash, but alas, we are having challenges with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.
This is a Federal and not a State road. The Federal Ministry of Works believes that they should do the road, but they have not been able to do it all these years past.
I just want to remind Lagosians that prior to my becoming Governor, the Federal Ministry of Works has been owing Lagos State a total of N51billion as reimbursement for reconstruction that was carried out by the State Government on federal roads in the State.
It is only logical that they should even give us part of what they are owing us so that we can complete this construction of the Airport Road within a time of six months.
If they are not willing to pay us now, we have the money to do it. It is a national disgrace and we would not be part of it. We would like to do it as part of the celebration of Lagos at 50.”

International Women’s Day March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since in the early 1900’s – a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. International Women’s Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity. No one government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network or media hub is solely responsible for International Women’s Day. Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others.
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” says world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria Steinem. Thus International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century – and continues to grow from strength to strength.
Here are five facts about the day:
1. Originally called International Working Women’s Day, it was first celebrated on February 28, 1909, in New York in remembrance of a 1908 strike of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union when 15,000 workers, including many immigrants, marched through the city’s lower east side to demand social and political rights.
2. The first modern International Women’s Day was held in 1914, five years after its inception, on March 8. The day was chosen because it was a Sunday, which the majority of women would have off work allowing them to participate in marches and other events, and has been celebrated on that date ever since.
3. The day was declared a national holiday in the Soviet Union in 1917, and was predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted by the UN in 1977. Since 1996, the UN has assigned a theme to every IWD. This year’s theme is “Be bold for change”.
4. According to the UN, it is “a day when women are recognised for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.”
5. The day is now an official holiday in several countries including Afghanistan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Vietnam and Zambia and for women only in countries including China, Madagascar and Nepal.( Source: internationalwomen’sday.com)

On Sunday, The Observer, a UK newspaper, said Britain was ready to rescue the Chibok girls after they conducted air reconnaissance over northern Nigeria for several months in a mission named Operation Turus, but the Jonathan administration declined.
“The girls were located in the first few weeks of the RAF mission. We offered to rescue them, but the Nigerian government declined,” a source involved in Operation Turus was quoted as saying.
But the former president denied it, saying the story was “concocted” by those “who have been playing politics with the issue of the abducted girls.”
“We are not surprised that this kind of concocted story is coming out at this point in time, as it appears that some people who have obviously been playing politics with the issue of the Chibok girls will stop at nothing to further their interest,” former president Goodluck Jonathan said in a statement.
On Tuesday, the British high commission in Abuja said the report that Jonathan turned down its offer to rescue the girls “was false.”
According to THISDAY, Mathew Rycroft, the ambassador, said he was briefed on the matter and the allegations were not true.
“The British High Commissioner briefed me on that today (Monday) and said that the allegations are not true,” Rycroft said.
In a statement further released by the commission read: “UK worked with the US and France to provide a range of military and intelligence support to the Nigerian government in their search (for the Chibok girls), and in fact, a wider effort to address the longer term challenge of terrorism.
But importantly, we won’t comment on specific additional details, which is a matter for the Nigerian government and the military.”

Every woman wants to have smooth and silky hair. Short or long, curly or straight—shiny hair always gives a good impression.
The outer layer of healthy hair contains natural oil to keep it moist and shiny. When this layer is damaged, your hair will look dull, unhealthy and dry.
Some of the factors that contribute to dull hair are illness, nutritional deficiencies , use of harsh hair care products , not using a good conditioner , over exposure to sun , frequent use of hair dyes, age, excessive stress, high mineral content in the water, chlorine in swimming pools and use of heating tools.
Soft and shiny hair takes a bit of effort. Proper hair care is the only way for both men and women to get shiny, silky and smooth hair. But there are natural homemade remedies that can stop hair loss and can make even richer.
Here are some homemade remedies for shiny hair:
1. Eggs
Eggs are perhaps one of the best ingredients to provide nourishment and shine to your hair in minutes. Being a good source of protein, fatty acids and lecithin, eggs help repair damaged and dull hair by adding moisture and shine. Eggs also help make your hair strands strong and thick.
1. Mix one egg white and one tablespoon each of olive oil and honey until you get a smooth paste.
2. Apply this paste on damp hair and scalp. Cover your head with a shower cap for about 30 minutes.
3.Then wash your hair with a mild shampoo and cool water.
4. Beat two eggs until you get a foamy texture. Mix in two tablespoons of almond oil and one-half cup of yogurt.
5. Apply this mixture on your hair and scalp. Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes and then shampoo your hair with cool water. Follow either of these egg treatments once a week to get soft and shiny hair.
Note: Never rinse your hair with hot water after using an egg mask. Hot water will clot the egg and it will be very difficult to wash it out of your hair.
2. Beer
Beer works as an excellent hair tonic. The proteins (hops and malt) in beer help repair damaged hair cuticles and provide nourishment to hair follicles. This in turn adds luster and shine to your hair .
1. Wash your hair with shampoo and then apply flat beer from the root to the ends.
2. Massage the beer thoroughly into your scalp using circular motions.
3. Allow it to sit for about five minutes and then rinse it off.
4. Follow this remedy once every two weeks.
3. Coconut Oil
To get shiny hair, it is important to provide nourishment by applying oil to your hair regularly. Coconut oil (organic and unrefined) is one of the best options. It helps restore moisture to dry and damaged hair, in turn making it shiny and healthy.
1. Apply warm coconut oil on your hair, from the root to the ends.
2. Massage for a few minutes and then wrap your hair in a shower cap or towel for at least 30 minutes.
3. Rinse your hair with water, then shampoo and condition like normal.
4. Another option is to add a few curry leaves to two tablespoons of coconut oil. Heat it until warm. When cool, massage the oil gently onto the scalp and hair. Cover with a warm towel for 30 minutes and then wash with a mild shampoo.
5. Follow either of these remedies once or twice a week, depending on your hair condition.
You can also use olive oil, castor oil, or almond oil and follow the same process.
4. Mayonnaise
Mayonnaise has amino acids, protein and antioxidants that will make your hair strong, soft, healthy and shiny .
1. Use one-half to one cup of full-fat mayonnaise, as needed for your hair length.
2. Apply it on freshly washed, damp hair.
3. Cover your hair with a shower cap for at least 30 minutes.
4. Thoroughly wash your hair using cold water and a mild shampoo.
5. Repeat this remedy on a weekly basis to enjoy hydrated and shiny hair.
5. Avocado
Avocado contains nutrients that will deeply moisturize and nourish your hair. This in turn will make your hair smooth and shiny. Avocado is also extremely good for dry and damaged hair.
1. Mix one mashed ripe avocado with two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil.
2. Apply this mixture on damp hair, from the roots to the ends.
3. Cover with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Finally, rinse and shampoo your hair as usual.
4. You can also mash one ripe avocado and one ripe banana together. Mix in one-half tablespoon of almond oil. Massage this paste onto your scalp and spread it all over your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap for 30 minutes or more. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and then shampoo your hair.
5. Follow either of these remedies once or twice a week, depending on the condition of your hair.
6. Onion juice
Yes, onions have a strong and unpleasant smell, but this treatment is really effective. Due to the sulphur content from onions, the production of collagen in tissues increases; the result being strong shiny hair.
What do you need? You need the juice of 2-3 onions (a juicer is helpful in this case).
1. Massage the scalp thoroughly with the juice; you should not wash your hair for at least one hour; finally use a gentle shampoo to wash your hair.
2. Repeat this treatment weekly.
7. Potato juice for shiny hair
You need 3 medium potatoes, an egg yolk, and a teaspoon of honey.
1. Squeeze juice from potatoes and blend with yolk and 1 tbs. honey.
2. Apply the resulting mask to your roots and let it act for at least half an hour.
3. Then wash your hair as usual. This mask is also very effective for dry hair.
8. Natural apple vinegar
Apple vinegar is a product highly praised for its beneficial effects on the skin and hair. Because it is acidic, it manages to purify the scalp thoroughly, removing all the impurities that might clog hair follicles. Furthermore, natural apple vinegar balances the pH of the scalp and provides shine to your hair.
1. Rinse your freshly washed hair with some apple vinegar diluted with water.
2. Then wash with clean water to remove the pungent odour.
3. Repeat weekly.
9. Heated olive oil
A very good thing that you can do to get healthy shiny hair is to massage the scalp at least once a week with heated olive oil (it should be at a pleasant temperature for skin).
1. Massage it for at least 15 minutes, using circular movements.
2. Do not pull it too hard. Besides that you will improve blood circulation in the scalp, you will have a better nourished hair.

A healthy diet means quality, but also quantity or eating certain foods depending on your daily routine.
Nutritional needs can vary according to sex, weight, age, and activity level. Women usually have different daily nutritional needs if compared to men. A balanced diet for women is the diet that allows eating healthy foods and maintaining weight.
Breakfast
Breakfast should include foods rich in protein for the metabolic activation. These can be eggs, fish, lean meat, or low-fat dairy products, which provide satiety and lead to a lower consumption of calories for the rest of the day. In addition, these foods require burning more calories in order to be digested. Another rule – don’t skip breakfast, as this lowers the level of glucose in the blood that might lead to the fact that the ingested food will be intensely stored as fat.
Morning snack
2-3 hours after breakfast, have a snack, as it is well-known that eating less but regularly is ideal for maintaining weight. Not that you’ll eat more, but you’ll distribute the daily intake of calories evenly throughout the day, and thus you will not allow large fluctuations in blood sugar levels. A fruit, grains, nuts, fruit yogurt or flaxseeds, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, 10-15 olives are healthy snacks that should be included in the perfect balanced diet for women.
Lunch
Between the main meals of the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) there must be a distance of 5-6 hours. Lunch should include a mixture of protein and resistant starch. Carbohydrates provide energy, and those resistant ones produce a steady rise in blood sugar. Opt for rye bread, fish, lean meat, low-fat dairy, vegetable salads, lentils, beans, or chickpeas.
Afternoon snack
It should be taken 2-3 hours after lunch. The afternoon snack provides energy from fruits – a handful of dried fruits, nuts, seeds, or almonds. Dried fruits are four times sweeter than their fresh equivalents. They provide energy in particular if you go to the gym.
Dinner
Have carbohydrates at dinner; they will help you to relax and have a good sleep. You can combine carbs with oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, and seeds or oils. The body uses healthy oils for repairing tissues, skin and hair health. A colourful vegetable salad with some dressing from flaxseed oil or rapeseed oil, with fish, meat, beans, or brown rice, wholegrain pasta with tomato sauce might be a great option. Dinner must be lower in calories than breakfast and should be served at least 3 hours before you go to bed.
These recommendations for the perfect balanced diet for women have been provided by Kerry Torrens, nutritional therapist.

According to a report by Daily Post, Senator Abubakar Girei, who represented Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone from 1999 to 2003, has declared that Igbos do not need Biafra because they own Nigeria.
Girei who made the claim while speaking with The Sun newspaper, alleged that most of the people from the South East are against the clamour for Biafra.
He maintained that the South East zone had benefited greatly from the Nigerian nation.
According to the former Lawmaker, ”In fact, they are the owners of this country. I know the generality of the people from South- east in particular, where the noise about Biafra is coming from, are totally not in support of the breakup of this country because they know they own Nigeria, the bigger, the better for all of us.
”Go to my village, you will find them there. Go to anywhere in this country, they are there, living comfortably, owning properties. There is no single tribe in this country that can boast of that.
”This is making them to lose out in many fronts in this country. Unless and until the Igbo come out and identify solely with the Federal Republic of Nigeria as one united entity, I don’t see how an Igbo man will aspire and succeed in being president of Nigeria. I don’t see it.
”You cannot be talking about Biafra, and then be talking about being President of Nigeria.”
Girei had similarly declared former President, Olusegun Obasanjo as the most powerful man in Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari.
