A 15-year-old girl in Chicago was apparently sexually assaulted by five or six men or boys on Facebook Live, and none of the roughly 40 people who watched the live video reported the attack to police, authorities have said.
The Guardian reports that It is the second time in recent months that the Chicago police department has investigated an apparent attack streamed live on Facebook. In January, four people were arrested after mobile phone footage showed them allegedly taunting and beating a mentally disabled man.
Police only learned of the latest alleged attack when the girl’s mother approached Supt Eddie Johnson on Monday afternoon as he was leaving a station in the Lawndale neighbourhood in the West Side, a police department spokesman said. She told him her daughter had been missing since Sunday and showed him screengrab photos of the alleged assault.
The spokesman said Johnson immediately ordered detectives to investigate and the department asked Facebook to take down the video, which it did.
The spokesman said detectives had found the girl and reunited her with her family. He said she had told detectives she knew at least one of her alleged attackers, but it remained unclear how well they knew each other. Investigators are questioning several people, but no one is considered a suspect yet and no arrests have been made.
The spokesman said Johnson was “visibly upset” after he watched the video, both by its content and the fact that there were “40 or so live viewers and no one thought to call authorities”.
Investigators know the number of viewers because the count was posted with the video. Investigators would have to subpoena Facebook to find out who they were and would need to “prove a nexus to criminal activity” to obtain such a subpoena, police said.
Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for Facebook, said she had no specific comment on the Chicago incident but that the company took its “responsibility to keep people safe on Facebook very seriously”.
“Crimes like this are hideous and we do not allow that kind of content on Facebook,” she said.
Jeffrey Urdangen, a professor at Northwestern University’s law school and the director of the school’s Center for Criminal Defence, said it was not illegal to watch such a video or to not report it to the police. He said child pornography charges would not apply unless viewers had downloaded the video.

China has rebuffed Donald Trump’s latest Twitter attack after the US president accused Beijing of doing little to help force North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, to abandon his nuclear ambitions, the Guardian reports.
Speaking in Beijing alongside the US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson , the Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi, claimed a responsible China had “devoted a lot of energy and effort over the years” to resolving the North Korean issue.
“The tremendous and important efforts that China has made are visible to all,” he told a press conference, urging all parties, “including our friends from the United States”, to tackle the situation in a cool-headed manner.
Wang made no direct reference to Trump, who has repeatedly used Twitter to criticise China on issues including alleged currency manipulation, climate change and the South China Sea.
His comments came just hours after the US president launched his latest social media salvo against Beijing, accusing China’s leaders of not doing enough to persuade their longtime ally into giving up his missile and nuclear programmes.
“North Korea is behaving very badly. They have been ‘playing’ the United States for years. China has done little to help!” Trump wrote.
The tweet was posted on the eve of Tillerson’s two-day visit to Beijing, where his mission is to finalise plans for a high-stakes summit between Trump and the Chinese president, Xi Jinping , designed to soothe tensions after months of bad blood and uncertainty.
Trump is expected to host Xi at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach on 6 and 7 April for an informal “no necktie” encounter that experts hope will reduce tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
“The overall China-US relationship really needs better clarity that can only be achieved by a meeting between our two leaders , a face-to-face meeting,”
Tillerson told the conservative website Independent Journal Review before landing in China on Saturday.
Trump’s election sparked fears that US-China relations were entering a new era of confrontation or even military conflict, although tensions have subsided since he backed away from a threat to challenge Beijing’s claim over Taiwan.
Experts say they are encouraged that after months of simmering discord Xi and Trump are preparing to thrash it out at the so-called winter White House.
“I think it actually has the potential to be quite a game-changing moment,” said Orville Schell, the head of the centre on US-China relations at New York’s Asia Society.
“The place I would look for some big breakthrough would, strangely, be on Korea.”
In his interview with the Independent Journal Review Tillerson declined to say what Trump might offer Xi to secure Chinese cooperation, but speaking in Beijing, he said China and the US had agreed “to see if we cannot bring the government in Pyongyang to a place where they want to make a course correction and move away from their development of nuclear weapons”.
“I think we share a common view and a sense that tensions on the peninsular are quite high right now and that things have reached a rather dangerous level. And we have committed ourselves to doing everything we can to prevent any kind of conflict from breaking out,” he said.
Tillerson also hinted at the prickly trade talks that await Xi in Mar-a-Lago. Trump has repeatedly accused Beijing of decimating US industry through unfair trade practices such as currency devaluation and subsidies, claims that China rejects.
“Our two countries should have a positive trade relationship that is fair and pays dividends both ways, and we will be working on that,” Tillerson said.

Regardless of the season, an average woman is exposed to 840 minutes of sun each week. Yes, the sun is sneaky that way. To help you avoid or limit exposure to the sun, we’ve listed five situations where you’re unknowingly exposed to the harmful UV rays.

1. Driving or Commuting
Think you’re protected from the sun inside your car? Well, think again. Different parts of your car block certain types of UV rays. Your windshield protects you from the UVA and UVB rays, and your glass also blocks UVB rays. But what you don’t know is that your rear and side windows are not doing enough to limit your exposure to UVA rays – and that can cause uneven skin damage later on.

2. Sitting by a Window at Work
If you’re sitting by a window at work, then you’re exposed to eight hours of radiation each day. Sitting next to a window causes you to receive more damaging rays sans the normal protective benefits of vitamin D production. If transferring to a new spot isn’t an option, consider applying a UV film on the window instead to filter out those harmful rays.

3. Running Some Errands
A trip to the market, a short walk to the post office, walking in and out of the gym – going on such errands is another way of exposing yourself to the harmful rays of the sun. These moments reinforce why it’s crucial to apply SPF daily, regardless of how much time you’ll be spending outside. Opt for an SPF 30 moisturizer to provide you with UVB and UVA protection, while nourishing your skin with its antiaging properties.

4. Walking Around on Cloudy Days
If you think that the UV rays will let you pass on overcast days, then you’re dead wrong. A thin layer of clouds may cool down the temperature, but it only lessens the UV radiation by 30 percent. Clouds can provide an ‘okay’ job of blocking the UVB rays, but it won’t block out UVA rays that causes premature aging and lasting damage. So never think about ditching your SPF just because the sun isn’t out.
Protecting yourself against the sun’s harmful UV rays is crucial, and one way of doing it is discovering the times when you unknowingly expose yourself to sun damage. Through this, you get to limit your UV exposure and ultimately prevent serious skin diseases from occurring.

The Christian Association of Nigeria on Friday, March 17, said it will not investigate allegation of misconduct against the founder of Omega Fire Ministries Apostle Johnson Suleman.
A top official of CAN who spoke to Punch said the association only focuses on denominational issues and not personal ones.
Stephanie Otobo, an alleged mistress of Apostle Suleman had accused the man of God of having illicit affairs with her.
Otobo in various interviews has also said that Suleman had at many times threatened her over the allegations she leveled on him.
But reacting to the request by a Christian group that CAN should investigate Otobo’s allegation, the association has said that CAN provides an umbrella for Christain domination.
A source within the association said: “This issue has to do with individuals, ethics and morals. So it is the denomination that Suleman directly subscribes to that should look into it and not CAN.”
“The CAN cannot be involved. What is happening is not an official issue. It is a personal issue. The man has denied the allegations made by the lady, but she insists and we are told that their lawyers and the appropriate authorities are already involved. If it was a matter that had to do with the church now, we would have waded into it.
You will be aware that when the man was being harassed because of what he preached and said, CAN stepped in. We declared our position on that but this other matter is a little bit complex.
“If CAN comes out to say the man is being persecuted because he is a Christian, people might say that we are defending what is not defendable, and that the matter is immoral. Also, we don’t have an investigative department that deals with that in CAN.
But if he is with the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, then the body can investigate the matter. CAN is an umbrella body for denominational blocs and not for individual Christians per se.”
However, Suleman in a recent reaction accused the governor of Kaduna state Nasir el-Rufi of his travails.
He said el-Rufai alongside other strong politicians are using Otobo to ruin his reputation as a man of God.

It’s always an alarming moment when you find your first grey hair. Either you find it when combing your hair in the mirror, or someone points it out to you. But knowing why grey hairs develop early helps you to prevent premature greying from happening in the first place.
Unfortunately, hair greying is just a natural process that happens to all of us at some point or another. However, there are things you can do to at least postpone the process from beginning.
After all, we associate grey hairs with old age. So when we develop a few sprouts when we’re in the prime of our lives, we have every reason to get a little distressed. Nobody wants to look old before their time!
If you ask any doctor or scientist why hair greys, and why it’s a natural process that befalls even stunning celebrities, they’ll tell you that it’s because your body has produced as much melanin as it’s ever going too. Once your body stops producing it, your hair begins to grey.
Eventually, it turns to silver and then to white. Not cool.
Ageing is another fact of life. We humans age, and so do animals plants. Just as you’ll get older, so will your pets and the frogs and birds that live outside your home.
Nobody is immune to ageing. But while there are some who are very accepting of the fact that they have to age and can thus take “trivial things” like grey hairs on the chin, others are less accepting.
Especially when grey hairs appear a little too soon. Instead, we choose to fight the ageing process because we know it’s come a little too early. We’re still in our thirties, it’s our right to not be grey just yet!
The truth is that it’s up to you how you face up to ageing. You can accept it, or you can make adjustments to your lifestyle so that the ageing process slows down a tad.
Perhaps the biggest problem with premature greying is that it’s visible . You can see it when you look at yourself in the mirror.
Sometimes, if it’s prominent enough, even your friends can see it, as well as your work colleagues. Maybe they’re polite enough not to mention it, but the very fact that it’s on show is enough to make you feel embarrassed.
Some women don’t show up any grey hairs until they’re in their fifties, or even in their sixties (at least not greying in great, noticeable clumps). Scientists can’t explain it. It really does seem as though nature has been kind to some of us, but not to all of us.
However, genetics – as often with issues related to the body – has a say in premature ageing.
So, too, do racial demographics. Studies have shown that Caucasians can hit their “grey period” as early as their mid-thirties, while for Asians it doesn’t tend to arrive until they near their fortieth year. African-Americans have it even better, and statistically don’t hit their grey period until they are well into their forties.
Most people, however, will find that they have a good amount of grey hair when they’re fifty. For many of us, there is just no escaping this sad inevitability.
Here are a few explanations for why our hair sometimes ages before we’d really like it to.

Medical Conditions
If you are suffering from an autoimmune disease, there is a good chance that you may turn grey earlier than expected. This is because your cells come under attack from the disease, including the cells that make up your hair follicles. When this happens, your hair can turn grey. When you lack vitamin B-12, you can also turn grey early, while an issue with your thyroid gland or your pituitary gland could also be the cause of premature greying.
If a medical condition is the reason for premature greying, the good news is that when the underlying condition is treated, the premature effects of ageing are happily reversed.

Stress
When people start to go grey early, the number one thing they automatically think of is stress.
Stress as the cause of premature greying is a tricky one because there is still much debate about its impact on ageing. However, there have been some studies carried out that have shown a direct link between chronic stress and premature ageing. These studies showed that mice, when placed in stressful situations, invariably end up with diminished hair follicles.
While there isn’t yet strong evidence to link stress with premature greying, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that exists.

Smoking
Smoking causes discolouration. Have you ever noticed how much yellower the ceilings are in the living rooms inhabited by smokers? More sinisterly, smoking can turn your lungs black. Smoking can also turn your hair greyer than you’d like. In fact, smoking regularly is essentially like attacking your own skin. It causes wrinkles on your arms and face, and it affects your hair follicles. All of them.

Vitamin Deficiency
Another reason for premature greying is a vitamin deficiency. Vegans are especially at risk of vitamin B12 deficiency because, while meat eaters get their vitamin B12 from meat, vegans must find theirs from alternative sources, such as yeast. Not all vegans, however, are aware of the importance of vitamin B12, nor of the sources. As such, a vitamin B12 deficiency can easily occur, which can then trigger premature greying.
Other possible causes of vitamin deficiency are digestive issues and birth control pills.
