U.S. forces in Afghanistan on Thursday struck an Islamic State tunnel complex in eastern Afghanistan with “the mother of all bombs,” the largest non-nuclear weapon ever used in combat by the U.S. military, Pentagon officials said. .
The bomb, known officially as a GBU-43B, or massive ordnance air blast weapon, unleashes 11 tons of explosives. When it was developed in the early 2000s, the Pentagon did a formal review of legal justification for its combat use.
The U.S. military headquarters in Kabul said in a statement that the bomb was dropped at 7:32 p.m. local time Thursday on a tunnel complex in Achin district of Nangarhar province, where the Afghan affiliate of the Islamic State group has been operating.
The target was close to the Pakistani border. The U.S. estimates 600 to 800 IS fighters are present in Afghanistan, mostly in Nangarhar. The U.S. has concentrated heavily on combatting them while also supporting Afghan forces battling the Taliban.
Just last week a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier, Staff Sgt. Mark R. De Alencar, 37, of Edgewood, Maryland, was killed in action in Nangarhar.

The huge money in different currencies recovered from an apartment on Osborne Road, Ikoyi Lagos, is not owned by Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue , a former
Managing Director at Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), a statement by her lawyer has said.
Emeka Etiaba, the lawyer to Nnamdi-Ogbue, in a statement on Thursday, debunked the report associating his client with the money.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission
( EFCC) on Wednesday raided the apartment located at No 16 Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, where the money in various currencies was recovered.
$43.4m, N23.2m and £27,800 were discovered in fire-proof cabinets in the apartment.
He said that the money and the apartment where the sums of money were found do not belong to his client.
“Our client is as shocked as many other Nigerians at the uncovering and recovery of the said sums of money and wishes to salute the courage and efforts of the EFCC in the war against corruption.” he said.
“She also wishes to commend the whistle blowing policy introduced by the Federal Government in the fight against corruption which policy has resulted in large scale uncovering and recovery of monies and assets.’’
“It is our client’s belief that the source and ownership of the said uncovered sums of money are known or eventually will be known by the EFCC in due course. There is, therefore, no need for conjecture or speculation,’’ he added,
He advised the media to be more circumspect in their publications.
Online news medium Sahara Reporters had alleged that the apartment belonged to Nnamdi-Ogbue.
Sahara Reporters later backtracked, saying the apartment belonged to PDP Chieftain, Anthony Anenih ‘s daughter.
The news platform has however maintained that the building is owned by Adamu Muazu , former National Chairman of the PDP.

Need more iron? Check out these tasty iron rich foods that you should be including in your diet.
Iron is an essential mineral that all need. We don’t need too much, but we need the right amount to boost the transfer of oxygen from the tissues in our bodies. Iron helps us to produce more red blood cells, which help with the speedy transfer of oxygen. And when oxygen is moving around our body more efficiently, we feel fitter, healthier and more energetic.
Iron also strengthens your immune system. If you aren’t getting enough iron, you could end up feeling tired, or even totally exhausted. Indeed, iron deficiency affects 10% of American females, making it the most common nutritional deficiency in America.
Let’s take a look at 10 iron rich foods that you need to include in your diet.
Liver
Liver is one of the best sources of iron. Liver and onions was probably your grandmother’s favourite meal. If you didn’t try it because you thought it sounded gross, now might be the time to revisit it because liver not only tastes good, it’s remarkably rich in iron.
Just one slice of liver contains 5 mg of iron, which makes up almost half of a female’s daily requirement. This means you can get almost all of your iron fix in one small meal!
Pork liver is also a good option, and has even higher levels of iron.
However, liver is also rich in cholesterol, and therefore should not be eaten in excess.
Oysters
Like liver, oysters might be one of those foods you’ve heard of but always been afraid to try because they sound a bit odd. But like liver, oysters are actually really yummy – and they’re also stuffed with iron.
Oysters are a seafood appetiser that you can munch on before your main course. Just a single medium oyster contains up to 5 mg of iron! This means that to get your daily required amount of iron, you just need to eat a few as a warm-up meal when you next visit a seafood restaurant.
Oysters are also rich in vitamin B12, an essential vitamin that is notoriously difficult to get hold of. They also contain zinc.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is already a cracking breakfast. But now that you know oats are rich in iron, you might be ready to eat them even more.
The exact amount of iron you get from a bowl of oatmeal really does depend on the exact oats you’re cooking. Check the label first.
Whole grain oats are the best, and they also come loaded with plenty of other health-boosting nutrients too. For a more nutrient-packed breakfast, add fruit to your bowl. It will help your bod to absorb the iron better, too!
Chickpeas
Chickpeas are not to everyones taste, but they’re incredibly versatile. You can add them to a curry, scramble them with your eggs, or even include them in a salad. And if you like chickpeas, you should definitely think about eating more of them, as just one cup contains around 5 mg of iron.
Perfect for vegetarians, chickpeas are famously at their best when used to create hummus. Yum! Hummus – a student favourite – can be spread on toast for a late-night snack, and offers the perfect way to get your iron fix for the day.
Dark Chocolate
You didn’t think this list was going to be all liver and oysters, did you?
Dark chocolate is an indulgent treat. You should be careful not to eat too much of it, but just two squares per day are enough to give you enough iron to keep you going for a few more hours.
Dark chocolate is also rich in antioxidants, and is therefore healthier than lots of people realise.
Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin is popular during the fall, but you should really think about snacking on pumpkin seeds throughout the year. Why? Because they’re rich in iron!
Pumpkin seeds make for the perfect afternoon snack at work because they’re healthy, tasty, and convenient. Just a single cup delivers around 2 mg of iron, while you can probably get over 10 mg out of a whole pack.
You can stuff your face with the seeds by themselves, or you can add them to all kinds of recipes. They’re great in salads and oatmeal, as well as muffins and even bread.
Sardines
Sardines are super tasty, and a good source of iron. Just a quarter cup contains 1.8 mg of iron.
Lentils
Lentil soup is the perfect winter warmer if you need more iron in your body. Just a half cup of lentils contains 3.3 mg of iron, which is almost half your daily requirement.
Lentils are really cheap to buy (hence why you’ll see lots of students stocking up on them), and they’re also really versatile. As well as lentil soup, they can be added to a variety of dishes, but you’ll most commonly find them in curries.
Soybeans
Soybeans are a brilliant green legume that light up any meal they’re added to. They’re rich in all kinds of essential minerals and nutrients, including copper, protein and, of course, iron.
Soybeans contain numerous essential amino acids, which indeed make them one of the very best sources of protein for vegetarians. You can add them to many kinds of dishes, but they work best in stir fries or salads.
You may not have noticed soybeans at your local grocery because they’re sometimes labelled as edamame beans. They’re the same thing, but edamame just sounds fancier.
If you decide to eat soybeans on their own or on a slice of toast, add sea salt for extra taste.
Spinach
Whenever we think of iron, we tend to think of spinach. And sure enough, spinach is a good source of blood-boosting iron.
A half cup of cooked spinach contains around 3.2 mg of iron, which is very good. Spinach is a healthy dark green that can be added to many types of dishes, including eggs florentine, pasta soups and salads.
Stay happy and healthy!

You may have noticed that most Nigerians do not touch their meat till they have finished their food. They usually save it like they were saving the best for the last.
What is so special about the meat that it is saved for last?
Check out these reasons why Nigerians eat meat last.
1. Upbringing
A lot of people were brought up that way. Some children were taught by their mothers not to eat their meat until they had finished the food. In some homes, you dare not touch your meat if you have not finished your food or you would be scolded. So, most children grew up into adulthood with that habit of eating meat last.
2. Habit
Eating meat last is a habit that has stuck over time. For some people, it is bad habit to eat your meat before you finish your food.
3. Motivation
For some people, the meat is an encouragement to finish the food. Some people cannot even eat food that has no meat. Once the meat is gone, some people lose appetite and just stop eating the food.
4. Save the best for the last
Some people value their meat so much and believe it should be reserved for the last. To them, the meat is the trophy they get for finishing the food.
5. It is embarrassing
How would you feel if you ate your meat at the beginning and a visitor walks in? The visitor will just assume you cannot afford meat and that is why you are eating without meat.
6. It makes the food unappealing
7. Enough time to savour the meat
The meat can be hard sometimes and eating it in between meals would take time. Pausing in between your meal to spend a considerable time battling a piece of meat can make you lose your appetite.

Speaking with the CableLifestyle, on Tuesday, April 11, the Calabar born dancer said he will approach the competition in the same manner if he were to do it again.
He said; “I wouldn’t change anything, I would do everything that I did all over again but a lot of people don’t understand that a game is a game.
A lot of people went in with strategies, I didn’t go in with any,” “I just didn’t want to talk about my marriage, I wanted to show how creative I am.
If we go past the questions people are asking about the negative things and ask was he creative, was he innovative? Did he take advice from people? Scrape things out of nothing and make them Nigerian and presentable? Yes, I did.”
TTT revealed that his motivation to win or do well in the Friday night games was to have the opportunity to drink alcohol, which was not readily made available to the housemates.
He said : “I loved the tasks and the Friday night games. It wasn’t even about winning the tasks, it was the alcohol. That was the only thing that brought us back to normal because throughout the week, we would have done hectic things that made us sweat but Friday night was the time to relax.”

EFCC Discovered $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m in an Apartment
EFFC today stormed a residential building in the 7th Floor of a four – bedroom apartment at Osborne Towers located at 16, Osborne road Ikoyi, Lagos, where a humongous find of foreign currencies and Naira notes to the tune of $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m was uncovered.
The operation followed a whistle blower’s confidential alert received by the Commission’s Lagos office this morning regarding some noticed suspicious movement of bags in and out of a particular apartment in the building. According to the source, the movers of the bags, make believe that they bring in bags of clothes.
Another source who is conversant with the apartment of interest indicated that some woman usually appeared on different occassion with Ghana Must Go bags. ” She comes looking haggard, with dirty clothes but her skin didn’t quite match her outward appearance, perhaps a disguise”, the source said.
On getting to the building, operatives met the entrance door locked. Inquiries from the guards at the gate explained that nobody resides in the apartment, but some persons come in and out once in a while. In compliance with the magisterial order contained in the warrant, the EFCC used minimum force to gain entrance into the apartment.
Monies were found in two of the four bedroom apartment. Further probe of the wardrobe by operatives in one of the rooms, was found to be warehousing three fire proof cabinents disguisedly hidden behind wooden panels of the wardrobe. Upon assessing the content of the cabinets, neatly arranged US Dollars, Pound Sterling and some Naira notes in sealed wrappers.
Preliminary findings indicate that the funds are suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity. The facility is said to be owned by Osborne Towers Resident Association. Investigations are ongoing.
