A British politician and former military officer, Eric Stuart Joyce has condoled with Nigeria over the reported death of their president, Muhammadu Buhari. Eric Joyce, who is also a former member of parliament for Falkirk West and Falkirk sent the condolence via his Twitter handle.
On his website, he said: “I wrote this yesterday about President Buhari of Nigeria. There’s been a lot of interest in the blog in Nigeria. I’ll answer a few of the key points raised, here.
First, if you’re a president then it’s up to you to show people you’re alive and well – it’s not up to your people to prove the opposite. Every politician in the world knows this. A statement from a PR guy doesn’t cut it. Angry ripostes from supporters don’t cut it. Only your personal appearance cuts it.
Second, if your’e a president and you’re not well, then a doctor needs to come out of the hospital and explain to your nation what’s up. This let’s everyone, including your people and the markets, know if your alive at all, alive enough to recover or have just sprained an ankle.
Unless these things apply, then there will be shenanigans. For example, a dead person will be kept hooked up to a machine and advisers, politicians, traders, all the people ‘in the know’ will be jockeying for position and none of the regular people of the country will know anything about it.
Nigerians have done themselves proud on the democratic front in the last few years; this is no time to start accepting bullshit again.
Where’s the Nigerian media? Cowed, maybe? And where’s the UK media?Uninterested, probably, because it’s almost entirely white – in spite of many Africans living in London – and to most UK media folk stories about Africa are boring unless there’s a big famine, terrorism, or a war.
But in the end, this is about how Nigeria is on its way to becoming a front-rank nation. That’s good news. Accountability to regular Nigerians about the present situation with the president is a big, big part of that.”

Pat Utomi says although he’s a founding member of APC, honesty behooves him to admit that the party has under-performed. Speaking with NAN in New York, Utomi said that the party had to be reformed to refocus it to its founding ideals.
He said some of the founding fathers were more committed to building APC as an enduring political party. He, however, said some people are more interested in taking titles in the party, rather than building it.
“I’m a member of the APC; I’m one of the real founding members of the APC, Forget that because some of us committed more to building real stuff and others rushed to take titles; but we founded the APC.
It’s not been what we thought it would be; let’s be very honest, the party has under-performed, the party’s structure has been poor. The party leadership has been poor; government and the party have not worked well together.
But we shall reform it from within by God’s grace and make it work better. We have to wish on God’s grace and hope that things work differently. Anything that works, that will make a difference, I will do.”

Following the completion of the Big Brother Naija Reality TV show, the 3rd runner up in the competition, Debby-Rise has opened up on her relationship with former housemate, Bassey.
During a recent interview with Naij she revealed her relationship with the ex-housemate and others.
Read excerpts from the chat below:
Whether her experience on Nigerian Idol was responsible for how long she stayed in the BBNaija house
No, it was completely different. Idol was a musical show where we basically sang when we were asked to. But BBNaija was very different and besides, I wasn’t the only one who had been on a reality show. Efe, Bisola and Jon all had the experience.
Why the N25million wasn’t the main motivation for her being on the show
When my mentor visited me on the show, he said winners do not go for the money. The money comes to them. Money is a motivational factor but it wasn’t really my goal.
On her sisterhood with TBoss
The day the Kemen issue started was what marked my relationship with TBoss. When the housemates did not take her own side, I felt it wasn’t fair so I just wanted to hear from her. I was happy I was there for her all through the show. She never ‘rode’ me and even outside the house we are still friends.
On her relationship with Bassey outside the house
Bassey and I are working and I know that we are making progress. I know his girlfriend so we just have an understanding . I connect very well with Bassey creatively.
Although there were speculations that the duo are in a relationship, the singer has confirmed that her relationship with Bassey is just platonic.

Ice cream lovers, rejoice! Eating this delicious, cold treat first thing in the morning might actually make you smarter, according to a Japanese study.
Researchers found that eating ice cream for breakfast could improve a person’s alertness and mental performance throughout the day.
Yoshihiko Koga, a professor at Tokyo’s Kyorin University, conducted a series of clinical trials, where test subjects were asked to eat ice cream immediately after waking up. They then had to complete a sequence of mental exercises on a computer, the Telegraph reported.
The volunteers who ate ice cream for breakfast exhibited faster reaction times and better information processing capabilities. By monitoring their brain activity, Professor Koga found that the volunteers who ate ice cream had an increase in high-frequency alpha wave, which suggests higher levels of alertness and reduced mental irritation.
To determine if the volunteers’ reactions were a result of the brain being shocked into alertness by the cold temperature of ice cream, Professor Koga tried the same experiment with cold water.
The test subjects who drank cold water in the morning did see an increase in alertness and mental capacity. However, the levels were significantly lower than those participants that started their day with a bowl of ice cream.
Professor Koga is continuing his research, and has yet to make a solid connection between the mental boost from ice cream and a specific ingredient.
Some nutrition experts have some reservations about Professor Koga’s findings.
“A possible explanation [for increased alertness]… is the simple presence of consuming breakfast vs. not consuming breakfast,” Katie Barfoot, a Nutritional Psychology Doctoral Researcher at Reading University told the Telegraph. “Our brain needs glucose to function, and a high glucose meal will aid mental capacity considerably compared to a fasted brain.”
Barfoot stressed that this study does not give people the green light to eat dessert for breakfast. However, Barfoot said, a study that looks at the connection between consumption of food on the low and high end of the glycemic index, while including a group that fasted, would help with better understanding the increased mental capacity.
“In general, a healthy breakfast contains protein, fruits, whole grains, or vegetables,” Ruth Frechman, MA, RDN, CPT, nutritionist and author of ‘The Food is My Friend Diet’ told Business Insider.
In contrast, a 2012 study suggests that eating chocolate cake for breakfast may help you lose weight. The study found that people who had a low calorie breakfast ended up still craving sweets and were more likely to cheat on their diets, whereas people who indulged in dessert in the morning were able to curb their cravings throughout the day and had more time to burn those calories off.

Teebillz has spoken about his battle with suicide during his marital crisis. Speaking with Punch, Tiwa Savage’s husband said, the experience has made him a better person and he now has focus in life.
He also said in return, he has prevented alot of people from committing suicide.
“The way I handle things now is completely different from how I acted in the past. I do better now because I know better.
If I had gone through the experience before now, it probably wouldn’t make sense to me until I go through some challenging situations. But I thank God that I have been able to overcome all those through the guidance of my coach.
I only recently understand what it means to have a purpose in life. I have saved many people from committing suicide even though I don’t come out to say it. I was suicidal myself but God preserved me so I could also save others.
I just realised that He kept me to touch the lives of others. People surely have their opinion about me and the entire issue, but God sees my heart and knows how much of a new man I am.
I am like Job in the Bible, God made me pass through all these challenges to make me a better person. I am only human, just like everyone else, so I am not immune to committing mistakes.
My experience can be likened to a battle between evil and good. I am happy God redeemed me and pushed me on the side of good. I am not being religious, I am just grateful to Him for giving me a renewed mindset. This is one of the biggest things coaching has done to me.”
