Cold water is well desired by human beings especially after having a hectic day or strenuous activity under the scorching sun.
We all as individuals love cold stuffs especially after a sunny hectic day, we need some cold drinks or water to refresh and cool our body. This includes even me that’s writing this to you all lol; But we need to know this and how to minimize the rate at which we take in cold drinks regularly.
According to Natural Law, our normal body temperature is about 98.6 degrees F. If we raise that temperature a few degrees, the body starts to show signs of distress, and we say we have a fever. We try hard to return to homeostasis or normal functioning.
Experts have said drinking cold water regularly could have negative impact on the heart and the digestive system. Food and healthy living expert say that cold water is at a temperature that contradicts the overall temperature within the body system.
Even though cold drinks or water has many health benefits, drinking ice water or cold water can only give temporary relief and drinking ice water regularly has its downside.
Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t drink ice or cold water:
1. Slows down digestion: Drinking ice water or cold water hampers the process of digesting food as it causes your blood vessels to shrink. This can slow down the process of digestion and as the food is not digested properly, the nutrients are lost or not absorbed by the body.
2. May lead to sore throat: Drinking cold water can cause the buildup of respiratory mucosa, which is a protective layer of the respiratory tract. When this layer gets congested, the respiratory tract is exposed and becomes vulnerable to various infections and hence the chances of your throat turning sore are high.
3. Shortage of nutrients: The body’s temperature is 37o C and when you drink something at a very low temperature, your body has to spend energy to regulate its temperature. This spent energy is otherwise used to digest food and absorb nutrients, thereby leaving your body short of nutrition.
4. Decreases your heart rate: Drinking ice water or cold water decreases your heart rate. Studies have shown that drinking ice water stimulates the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve is the 10th cranial nerve and is an important part of the body’s autonomous nervous system that controls involuntary actions of the body. The vagus nerve mediates the lowering of the heart rate and the low temperatures of ice cold water act as a stimulus to the nerve which causes the heart rate to drop.
In conclusion, take water at a normal temperature, the brain is sensitive to temperature change which is why it freezes when one drinks cold water at first, adding that such continuous seizure is not good for it, more so that is why we advise people not to take drugs with cold water.
The drugs will not digest on time; it means you won’t get the best of the drugs because the water did not dissolve on time.

Against the backdrop of recent alleged move by some politicians to invite the military to truncate democracy, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Wednesday, said it would use every means available to it, to resist any attempt to truncate democracy in Nigeria, saying democracy has come to stay in the country, Sun News reports.
National President of NUJ, Comrade Abdulwaheed Odusile, stated this at the NUJ national colloquium on elections, corruption and roadmap to 2019 organised by the Kaduna State council in collaboration with a nongovernmental organisation, Pax-Community Partnership Projects (PCPP).
Comrade Odusile who stated this as part of his contribution to the theme of the colloquium,”2015 polls: Reminiscence, Lessons, Challenges and Projections” said the colloquium is coming at the right time, x-raying the 2015 elections to serve as a guide to 2019 elections.
He called on relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate those behind such plans to truncate democracy and punish those that may be found guilty to serve as deterrent to others that may contemplate such in the future.
“The NUJ will resist any attempt to change the present democratic government, we will not allow any attempt to truncate democracy in Nigeria because democracy has come to stay in Nigeria” he reiterated.
Comrade Odusile who described NUJ Kaduna council as the heartbeat of journalism in Nigeria, tasked Journalists on the need to be guided in their reportage and avoid reports capable of creating crisis in the polity of the nation.
The President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for announcing the 2019 general election dates, which he said will help political parties to prepare ahead of time.
He however called on the electoral body to organize a retreat regarding the activities and monitoring of political parties, suggesting that the media should also be part of such retreat as an arm of government expected to hold the government accountable and monitor it’s activities.
“The government need to create an enabling environment for the media to carry out its constitutional responsibilities, and on this note, the NUJ condemn in totality the recent demolition of a media outfit in Nasarawa State.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Kaduna State council Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf also stressed the need to build on the gains of 2015 general elections and sustain the “one-man-one vote” legacy and further ensure the effectiveness of the card reader system to reduce to the barest minimum all acts of election rigging and manipulations.

US President Donald Trump has finally met Pope Francis, after they clashed at a distance on issues including migration and climate change.
They met at the Vatican for a short private audience on the third leg of his overseas trip.
He arrived for the meeting along with his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Mr Trump and his entourage arrived at the Vatican just before 06:30 GMT.
They were led by the Swiss Guard from the Vatican courtyard to the offices of Pope Francis.
On one hand, the Jesuit who has made his mission the championing of the poor and dispossessed; on the other the property developer who has championed getting rich, and surrounded himself with billionaires in his cabinet.
And though this is their first meeting, they’ve already sparred. During the election the Pope on a visit to the Mexico-US border said that people who only think of building walls instead of bridges were not Christian.
Donald Trump described those comments as disgraceful, and accused the pontiff of being a pawn of the Mexican government.

Even though as a new mother, you may be in a hurry to lose those pregnancy pounds, regularly eating foods that boost energy for new mums will give you the stamina you need to be the best mum you can be. That’s because eating nutrient-rich foods at regular intervals throughout the day can maximise your energy levels.
And for breastfeeding mums, it’s important to know that the quality of your chest milk stays just about the same no matter what you choose to eat. That’s because if you aren’t getting the essential nutrients from your diet, your body will provide them from your own stores. But for your own wellbeing, it’s best to make sure you’re obtaining the nutrients your baby needs by incorporating a variety of healthy breastfeeding foods in your nursing mum food plan.
If you make sure the following 12 foods for new mums are a regular part of your diet, your body – and your baby – will thank you.
1. Salmon
There’s no such thing as a perfect food. But salmon is pretty close when it comes to a nutritional powerhouse for new mums. One of the best breastfeeding foods available, salmon, like other fatty fish, is loaded with a type of fat called DHA. DHA is crucial for the development of your baby’s nervous system. All chest milk contains DHA, but levels of this essential nutrient are higher in the milk of women who get more DHA from their diets.
The DHA in salmon may also help your mood. Studies suggest it may play a role in preventing postnatal depression.
2. Low-fat dairy products
Whether you prefer yoghurt, milk or cheese, dairy products are an important part of most breastfeeding food plans. In addition to providing protein, B vitamins and vitamin D, dairy products are one of the best sources of calcium. If you’re breastfeeding, your milk is loaded with calcium to help your baby’s bones develop, so it’s important for you to eat enough calcium to meet your own needs. One way to do that is to include at least three servings of dairy each day as part of your breastfeeding food plan.
3. Lean beef
When you’re looking for foods to boost your energy as a new mum, seek out iron-rich foods such as lean beef. A deficiency of iron can drain your energy levels, making it hard for you to keep up with the demands of a newborn baby.
Also when you’re breastfeeding you need to eat extra protein and vitamin B12. Lean beef is an excellent source of both these nutrients.
4. Pulses
Beans, especially dark-coloured ones such as black beans and kidney beans are a great breastfeeding food, especially for vegetarians. Not only are they rich in iron, they’re a budget-friendly source of high quality, non-animal protein.
5. Blueberries
Breastfeeding mums should be sure to get two or more servings of fruit or fruit juice (a glass of fruit juice counts as one serving no matter how many glasses are consumed) each day. Antioxidant-rich blueberries are an excellent choice to help you meet your needs. These satisfying and yummy berries are filled with good-for-you vitamins and minerals and will give you a healthy dose of carbohydrate to keep your energy levels high.
6. Brown rice
If you’re attempting to lose the baby weight, you might be tempted to cut back drastically on carbohydrates. But losing weight too quickly may cause you to produce less milk for the baby and leave you feeling lethargic and sluggish. It’s better to incorporate healthy, wholegrain carbohydrates such as brown rice in your diet to keep your energy levels up. And foods like brown rice provide your body with the calories it needs to produce the best quality milk for your baby.
7. Oranges
Portable and nutritious, oranges are a great food to boost energy for new mums. As breastfeeding mums need a little more vitamin C than pregnant women, oranges and other citrus fruits are an excellent breastfeeding food too. Can’t find time to sit down to a snack? Sip some orange juice as you go about your day – you’ll get the vitamin C benefit and can even opt for calcium-fortified varieties to get even more benefit from your beverage.
8. Eggs
Egg yolk is one of the few natural sources of vitamin D – an essential nutrient to keep your bones strong and help your baby’s bones grow. Eggs are also a versatile way to meet your daily protein needs. Try scrambling a couple for breakfast, tossing a hard-boiled egg or two onto your lunchtime salad or having an omelette and salad for supper. As part of your breastfeeding food plan, you might even opt for DHA-fortified eggs to increase the level of this essential fatty acid in your milk
9. Wholemeal bread
Folic acid is crucial for your baby’s development in the early stages of pregnancy. But its importance doesn’t end there. Folic acid – an important nutrient that your baby needs for good health – is found in chest milk. And it’s crucial you eat enough for your own wellbeing too. Wholemeal bread is fortified with this vital nutrient, and also gives you a healthy amount of fibre and iron.
10. Leafy greens
The list of benefits you get from eating leafy green vegetables such as spinach, curly kale and broccoli goes on and on. They’re filled with vitamin A, which your baby needs to get from your chest milk. They’re a non-dairy source of dietary calcium. They’re a source of vitamin C and iron. On top of that, green vegetables are filled with heart-healthy antioxidants, they’re low in calories and they’re tasty as well.
11. Wholegrain cereal
After yet another sleepless night, one of the best foods to boost energy for new mums in the morning is a healthy breakfast of wholegrain cereal. Many cold cereals are available that are fortified with essential vitamins and nutrients to help you meet your daily needs. Or whip up a healthy hot breakfast by stirring blueberries and skimmed milk into a delicious serving of porridge.
12. Water
Dehydration is one of the biggest energy drainers there is. And new mums who are breastfeeding are especially at risk. To keep your energy levels and milk production up make sure you drink at least eight glasses of liquid every day. You can vary your options and meet some of your fluid requirements by drinking fruit juice and milk, but be careful when it comes to caffeinated drinks such as tea and coffee. Keep your intake low or switch to decaffeinated varieties. That’s because caffeine enters your chest milk and can become concentrated in your baby’s body.

Presidential spokespersons Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu and Laolu Akande will today, May 23, host a press briefing at the State House, Abuja.
The three spokespersons will answer questions from State House corespondents on President Muhammadu Buhari’s mid term, the two years he has spent in office.
There is a good chance questions on President Buhari’s health would be asked and the presidency will address alleged rumours that the president is dead.
Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that the controversy stirred by Eric Joyce over the alleged death of President Buhari has continued to set social media agog.
Joyce, an ex-British parliamentarian, took to social media a few days ago announcing that Nigeria’s president had passed on.
It must be noted that the news was strongly labelled as fake and Joyce got some bashing.
The Presidency however revealed that the information revealed by British politician Eric Joyce that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari is dead is not true.
In a series of tweets by Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the presidency described the information as plain lies spread by vested interests to create panic.
