There are certain things we consider normal but which are really bad for our health. Most people have adopted these health hazards into their daily routine without even realising the damage.
Constantly staring at a screen all day
Most people constantly stare at a screen all day. First, it’s in the office, and then it’s at home looking down on the phone screen till bedtime. This is very dangerous, and the rays from these screens can cause long term health hazards.
To avoid damaging your eyes, take breaks from looking at any screen of any sort. Take a few minutes to look away from your computer or phone screen.
Sitting too much
Frequent sitting can increase the risk of heart disease; worsen mental health and other issues, especially for those who do not get regular exercise. It’s a little hard to change your work lifestyle, but try to move around the office whenever possible, and maybe take a walk after work to have some time spent on your feet.
Skipping breakfast
Skipping breakfast or eating breakfast late in the day could raise the risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it gets your body started with the appropriate nutrients needed to get through the day successfully. Due to busy schedules, most people skip breakfast. As much as possible, avoid skipping breakfast.
Sleeping late
Chronic sleep deprivation can affect your appearance. Over time, it can lead to premature wrinkling and dark circles under the eyes. Lack of sleep can lead to an increase of the stress hormone in the body. Some of the most serious long term potential problems associated with chronic sleep deprivation are high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, heart failure or stroke.
Not taking enough water
Many people don’t realise just how important water really is. The human body is made up of 66 per cent water, and when we lose just a little bit of water through sweat and elimination, and we do not replenish it, it affects our health.
When a person begins to dehydrate, more things happen in the body than just being thirsty; the more liquid in the body is lost, the thicker the blood becomes and the harder the heart muscle must work to pump the blood through the circulatory system.

Yarima Shettima, the President of the Arewa Youth Coalition, has said that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, must be punished. Shettima, in an interview with Tribune, stated that Kanu is someone “who has terrorised the country”.
“We will go as far to ensure that we take him to the international court of justice. We will internationalise his case and ensure that this young man is declared a terrorist. He can’t be allowed to go just like that.
To us, we are seeing what he is doing as a business venture. So, as far as we are concerned, a country should not be run as a banana republic where somebody can do anything and get away with it, without respect for the rule of law,” he said.
Shettima also disclsoed that the group was reviewing its stand on the quit notice issued to Igbos living in north. “The steps taken by the governors are commendable. One, we have since expected the governors to do what they are doing now. Nevertheless, it is better late than never for.
What the Ohanaeze and other organisations that came out to denounce IPOB, are doing is commendable. We are also reviewing our own situation. We are going to have a meeting soon with other leaders of the coalition and come out with a clear position of things and what we intend to do in order to move forward,” he added.
He, however, stated that the call for the evacuation of the Igbo from the north was not totally off the table. “I am not saying we have completely removed the earlier condition that they should leave the north.
However, the fact of the matter still remains that one, we are not violent. Secondly, we intend also to explore all necessary avenues and ensure that, at the end of the day, things are being done in accordance with the law.
Inasmuch as we appreciate the fact that it is their right to demand self-determination, we are also saying, if you are asking for self-determination, there are certain procedures to go about it,” Shettima stated.

The ace singer said this in a chat with Saturday Beats. It is coming few days after Harrysong posted a court document showing that Kcee had dragged him to court. Harrysong’s manager, in an interview, also said that Kcee filed the lawsuit because his career was dead.
While reacting to the brouhaha, Kcee said, “When Harrysong was with us, we paid for his video shoots. He never travelled with his money and I am saying that with all confidence. I challenge him to contradict what I am saying.
When I met Harrysong, he had no visa on his passport. We gave him his visas. He travelled business class even when he had yet to release any song under Five Star.
He started travelling business class just to build self-esteem and confidence. He shot all his videos internationally and I can show you all the invoices. Most of his videos were shot abroad.”
Kcee further warned his former label mate to tread carefully as he had enough evidence to nail him. He added that he found it laughable for anyone to say that his career is dead without Harrysong.
According to him, he had remained in the Nigerian music industry for over a decade. He was quick to remind his critics that he won Star Quest with his former singing partner, Presh, without Harrysong’s help.
Kcee said that he later went on to sign with Kennis Music where he released three albums with numerous hits without Harrysong’s input. “He needs to be careful. Harrysong never influenced our sound; instead we polished his sound and we added more groove to it.
For me, I have my own weaknesses and he also has his element. I started as a DJ and I know what the people want and I direct his music. If you ask most of our producers, I changed the direction of his song, Better Pikin.
He sometimes advised in my song; we had a collaborative relationship. When you work as a team, it does not mean you own everybody; you cannot just write somebody off.
Because you bring in inputs does not mean you should look down on anybody, it is wrong. We are all human and I deserve some credit. I have been in this industry for a while,” he said.

Diabetes is best managed by being mindful of carbohydrate intake, eating smaller meals regularly, and choosing nutrient dense, healthful options.
Knowing what food to eat can make a huge difference to controlling, and, potentially, reversing type 2 diabetes. Making informed food choices can be helped by writing out a grocery list of foods that improve overall health, and benefit someone who has type 2 diabetes.
By making smart food choices and buying the right foods, a person can ensure they have enough diabetic-friendly ingredients on hand to take them from breakfast through to the last meal, or snack, of the day.
Vegetables
Vegetables are the base of a healthy diet. Not only do they offer excellent sources of vitamins and minerals, but they are fibrous, too, and help the body feel full and satisfied. This in turn can deter overeating, which may cause blood sugar issues.
Some vegetables to add to the shopping list include: salad green, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, green beans, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, red, green, orange, or yellow peppers, onions.
Beans and legumes
Beans are an excellent source of dietary fiber and protein. They can often be used in place of a portion of the protein that is needed in a diet. Here are some examples of what beans to pick up in either their canned or dried forms: black beans, lentils, white beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, pinto beans
Fruits
Despite their high sugar content, fresh or frozen fruits pack a powerful nutritional punch with their high content of fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Berries [strawberries blueberries blackberries raspberries] are full of vitamins and fiber.
The following fruits make a solid addition to the diet of anyone who has type 2 diabetes- nectarines, oranges, grapes, kiwis, tomatoes, bananas, apples, apricots, cherries.
Whole grains
Unlike simple carbohydrates, whole grains break down slowly, which means that blood sugar levels can be more easily controlled. This is because whole grains do not cause the blood sugar spikes the same way refined carbohydrates do.
Swap popular bleached and refined carbohydrates, such as white bread and pasta, for some of the following: whole-wheat pasta, whole-grain bread, quinoa, brown or wild rice, 100 per cent whole-grain, or whole-wheat flour, cornmeal, oatmeal and other whole-grain cereals.
Dairy
Dairy products contain important nutrients, including calcium and protein. Some research even suggests that dairy has a positive effect on insulin secretions in some people with type 2 diabetes. Some of the best options to add to the list are:
Parmesan, ricotta, or cottage cheese low-fat or skimmed milk low-fat or fat-free Greek or plain yogurt
Meats, poultry, and fish
Proteins are important for people with diabetes. Similarly to whole grain foods, proteins are slow to be digested and do not cause spikes in blood sugar. Here are some of the best sources of protein to choose from: skinless, boneless chicken breasts or strips
Salmon
White fish fillets
Skinless turkey breast
Tofu
Tuna
Eggs
Dressings, dips, spices, and condiments
There are plenty of flavorings and dressings that can be great for those trying to manage blood sugar.
It is recommended to limit high-sugar and high-fat condiments, and be sure to account for carbohydrate intake when using most condiments, particularly barbeque sauces, ketchup and certain salad dressings. The following are some safer options that people with diabetes can choose from:
Vinegar
Olive oil
Mustard
Any spice or herb
Any variety of extracts
Dessert foods
People with type 2 diabetes can have desserts when they eat them sparingly, and portion sizes are carefully chosen. Here are some of the safer dessert options: No sugar-added popsicles
100 per cent fruit popsicles
Dessert made with sugar-free gelatin
Sugar-free pudding
Sugar-free ice cream
Snacks
For between-meal cravings, a person can try:
Popcorn (avoid premade or sweetened varieties) nuts (avoid sweetened varieties) carrot or celery sticks hummus
Drinks
There are many options besides water that are suitable for people with diabetes. Just be sure to account for the carbohydrates found in certain drinks, such as milk and juice, as they will impact your blood sugar. Here are a few options: Sugar-free mix packet reduced sugar fruit juices or 100 per cent fruit juice iced or hot tea, unsweetened coffee, unsweetened low-fat or skimmed milk sparkling water
Diet sodas and other diet drinks are not generally recommended for other health reasons
Foods to limit or avoid
People with type 2 diabetes should limit or avoid foods that are not only bad for overall health, but which cause extreme blood sugar fluctuations. Foods to avoid include the following: Foods high in simple carbohydrates, foods high in saturated and trans fats sugary food, such as candy, ice cream, and cakes.

Addressing elders and chieftains at his residence in Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State on Thursday, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), said his organization would kill former President Olusegun Obasanjo if he attempts to harm the IPOB leader.
Mr. Kanu’s threat came after former President Obasanjo commented that Nigerians must do everything possible to stop the campaigning for the secession of Biafra, a cause spearheaded by Mr. Kanu.
The former president made the comment on Tuesday while speaking at the International Conference Centre in Abuja during the launch of the biography of the late Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari. He stressed that a failure to put an end to the Biafra agitation could lead to a repeat of the 1966 coup and the other events that eventually culminated in the civil war.
The Biafran agitator responded with a threat to the elder statesman. “I remember Obasanjo calling us names. They said we must eliminate Kanu and for those words coming out from his mouth, he is going to die,” Mr. Kanu declared.
“I told Obasanjo that I have given instructions to IPOB should anything happen to me. Everything that comes from Obasanjo’s lineage will die the same day at the same time. It is a standing instruction to IPOB.
Wherever they are, we will kill them ourselves at the same time, the same day, 12 noon, wherever we find them all over the world. I am not like anything they have seen before,” Mr. Kanu boasted.
