Godspower Gbenekama, a chief in Gbaramatu kingdom, says that the people of the Niger Delta will resume attacks on oil facilities if they continue to feel that the government is ignoring them.
According to Reuters, Gbenekama said no one can be assured that nothing will happen in the Delta. Some youth from the region had allegedly carried out attacks on oil facilities to protest the continued silence of the FG about issues in the Niger Delta, which resulted in reduced oil production output.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo had visited communities in the region, holding peace talks and town hall meetings to broker peace in the region. “The people of the Niger Delta can hold this government or any government to ransom because we are the people feeding the nation,” Gbenekama said.
“This peace is a graveyard peace. Nobody can assure anybody that nothing will happen in the Delta.” Annkio Briggs, a leading activist in Port Harcourt, described the peace talks as lies and deceit while Richard Akinaka, who represented the youth in Rivers state for a meeting with Osinbajo, said the government is treading a disastrous path.
“The government is treading on a path that is disastrous setting a precedent that they will only negotiate with the Delta when they start blowing stuff up,” he said. He dismissed the meeting with one word – ‘bogus’.
However, a government spokesman said the government has not reneged on the agreement and the government will never do so.
“The government has not reneged and will never renege on any agreement.
Call for resuming attacks when the government is diligent in actualising the terms of the agreements and requests made will not help matters,” he said.
The government official said it would take time for other agreements, such as the planned opening of a university and community ownership of small-scale refineries, to come to fruition.

According to Daily Mirror, Nwankwo Kanu has recalled the day his wife Amara saved his life and then nursed him back to health. After putting their three children to bed, the Arsenal legend and his wife were enjoying the peace and quiet.
They were about to go to sleep, but the former striker’s hammering heartbeat was keeping Amara awake. She recalls: “His heartbeat sounded much louder than normal. I was listening to his chest and it sounded odd.”
In 1996, Kanu had needed lifesaving open-heart surgery after being diagnosed with a heart valve defect. Amara, 30, couldn’t shake the niggling feeling that was something wasn’t quite right and insisted her husband get it checked immediately. .
Kanu, now 40, says: “She was saying I should go for a check-up so I took her advice.” And Amara was proved right because experts told him there was further damage to his heart and he urgently needed a second operation. .
“It was the same faulty valve,” she says. “It was like a ticking time bomb. It’s just one of those things we were lucky to find out.” Not only did she save his life, Amara also nursed him back to health.
Kanu’s first open-heart surgery was in 1996 after a routine medical examination at Inter Milan revealed the serious heart defect. He was a professional athlete at the top of his game and had just helped Nigeria win gold at the Olympics.
It was a complete shock but Kanu says: “Now I know that being fit and strong doesn’t make your heart 100%.”

The exotic names of olives—Moroccan, Kalamata, nicoise, picholine and Manzanilla—sound almost as good as these varieties of olives taste. But taste is only one of the reasons to enjoy them. Olives and olive oil have long been considered part of a heart-healthy or weight loss diet, but a new research shows that these foods may help protect the brain against brain diseases.
Olives are an excellent source of healthy monounsaturated fats and vitamin E. Monounsaturated fats have a beneficial role to play in maintaining the outer membranes of brain cells, protecting your body’s genetic material and the energy-producing cellular components (mitochondria) that help fuel your brain.
Vitamin E offers antioxidant protection to the fatty components of your brain and can lower your risk of damage and inflammation. This vitamin is also your body’s primary fat-soluble antioxidant, meaning that it neutralises damaging free radicals in all the fat-rich areas of your body, including your brain and the protective coating of your nerves.
Your brain is more than 60 per cent fat, making vitamin E a significant contributor to brain health. Like other types of monounsaturated fats, vitamin E also helps protect the energy production centers in your cells to ensure that your cells are capable of creating adequate energy for your many bodily processes and brain functions.
Olives and olive oil also help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. Oxidised cholesterol has been linked to stroke. These anti-inflammatory actions of monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and beneficial plant chemicals called polyphenols help lessen the likelihood of inflammation in your brain. Olive oil is also rich in Omega-9 fatty acids that are important for your brain.
And, a recent study published in the Journal of Molecular Biology even suggests that oleic acid found in olives and olive oil may help to prevent or halt brain cancer. The study was preliminary so more research needs to be done before we can definitively say that olives and olive oil can help with brain cancer.(Source: Online Nigeria)

Should you be worried?
When you buy a beauty product, you automatically assume that it’s safe, as you should. After all, many products have gone through extensive testing before they hit shelves. However, people can and do have bad reactions to the beauty products they use—and a new study found that those side effects are higher than they’ve ever been.
For the study, which was published in JAMA Internal Medicine, researchers analyzed the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition’s Adverse Event Reporting System, which stores data on adverse events related to foods, dietary supplements, and beauty products. Here’s what they found: From 2004 to 2016, 5,144 side effects were reported, and there was a notable increase between 2015 and 2016 of bad reactions—particularly those caused by hair-care products. The products with the most issues overall? Hair-care products, skin-care products, and tattoos. Notably, personal cleanliness, hair care, and hair-coloring products were the most likely to have “serious health outcomes.” The study authors did not go into specifics about what kinds of reactions were reported.
According to the study, these numbers may not reflect the full amount of complaints that companies get about bad reactions to products, because cosmetics consumers have no legal obligation to share these complaints with the FDA. The study’s researchers conclude that better surveillance is needed when it comes to beauty products. According to the FDA, cosmetic products and ingredients do not require FDA approval before they go on the market. Instead, the companies and people who market beauty products are legally responsible for ensuring the safety of their products.
The study findings are scary, but Gary Goldenberg, M.D., an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, says you shouldn’t panic over them. “Most products are safer than ever because of regulations and standards applied,” he says (for example, the FDA has specific standards on how products can be marketed to consumers, and can pursue enforcement over products that are not compliant with the law). However, he points out, there are more and more products on the market and companies are also using many more ingredients than before. “Some of these newer ingredients may have never been used in cosmetic formulations,” he says. “While these products may be safe for most, there surely will be some that are allergic or are irritated with these products.”
Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a New York City-based board-certified dermatologist, says that it could simply be a case of people using more products. “As skincare treatments are becoming increasingly popular, consumers are using more products than ever which is why we are seeing a bump in skin reactions,” he says. More people are also combining products, Goldenberg says, which comes with an increased risk that you’ll have a bad reaction.
To lower the odds you’ll have an issue, Goldenberg recommends using brands recommended by your dermatologist, and looking for products with minimal ingredients, i.e. ones that don’t add unnecessary chemicals such as petroleum and phthalates.
Zeichner also recommends sticking to fragrance-free products (since fragrances are a common cause of skin allergies) and looking for ones that are hypoallergenic. “Just because a product says that it is natural it [does] not mean that it is safer to use on the skin than traditional products,” he says. “Poison ivy is natural as well.” And, if you have sensitive skin, he says it’s best to avoid harsh ingredients like alpha or beta hydroxy acids or retinol, since they’re common causes of skin irritation.
If you’re not sure, talk to your dermatologist. He or she should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Night is a time of rest for the body, mind and the skin. It’s important to establish a night time beauty routine to prepare the face for the night and rejuvenation. Skin-cell renewal is faster at night because collagen is boosted and thus harmful radicals are destroyed. Also, skin temperature is naturally higher at night, which means that your skin is more receptive to active ingredients.
Step 1: Oil
Use oil to wash off makeup before using cleanser, because it instantly melts away all the stubborn makeup. Products like waterproof mascara and eyeliner are harder to rinse off with a gentle cleanser. Also, oils are a great way to massage your face, loosen your nodes and give yourself a little face.
Step 2: Cleanser
Next, gently rub your cleanser in a circular motion on the face. This will remove whatever element of makeup the oil missed. Use a cotton pad to sweep the cleanser across your face.
Step 3: Toner
Most toners are composed of active ingredients that are great for the skin to absorb in the evening. Toners add an extra barrier of moisture to your skin and they are hydrating and calming.
Step 4: Serum
There are many active ingredients in a serum; you just have to find one that fits your skin type. The ingredients in serum have anti-ageing properties, which even out the lines and wrinkles on the face.
Step 5: Moisturiser
Finding a moisturiser that will really penetrate and add moisture to the skin is crucial. The more you keep your skin hydrated and moisturised, the younger and more vibrant you look.
Step 6: Face Oil
Face oil is a great way to lock in all the moisture and it also prepares your face to relax and get ready for bed.

Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu, two of the Chibok schoolgirls, who escaped from Boko Haram captivity in 2014, read a letter applauding U.S. President Donald Trump during a recent visit to the White House.
The White House released more photos of the girls on Saturday, saying during their visit, Joy and Lyida “read the President a letter about their experience”. On the night of April 14, 2014, Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno.
An excerpt of the letter reads: “Mr. President, we urge you to keep America safe and strong. We know that some people are trying to discourage you. Do not be discouraged. You are right to keep American safe and strong. Not only for America. But for the world. If America is not safe and strong, where can people like us look for hope, when there is danger? Finally, we urge you to keep making America prosperous.” Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, hosted the Chibok schoolgirls during their visit, the White House said.
“The girls are recent graduates of Canyonville Christian Academy in Oregon, and they were accompanied by the school President, Doug Wead. The President and Ivanka were both deeply moved by the girls’ visit,” the statement by the White House read.
