Regular drinking of green tea could improve memory, thinking and learning abilities, says a study published online in the FASEB journal.
According to the study, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a biologically active component in green tea, does the work.
The chemical is said to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and heart protection properties that also protects against diabetes and obesity.
To make the determination, researchers at Northwest A&F University, China, divided 3-month-old male mice into three groups based on diet.
The control group was fed with a standard diet, another group was fed with an HFFD diet, and the third group was fed with an HFFD diet and 2 grams of EGCG per liter of drinking water.
For 16 weeks, researchers monitored the mice and found that those fed with HFFD had a higher final body weight than the control mice, and a significantly higher final body weight than the HFFD+EGCG mice.
After the experiments, they also found that EGCG could improve HFFD-induced memory impairment.
“Green tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world after water, and is grown in at least 30 countries,” said Xuebo Liu, a researcher at the college of food science and engineering, Northwest A&F University, in Yangling, China.
“The ancient habit of drinking green tea may be a more acceptable alternative to medicine when it comes to combating obesity, insulin resistance, and memory impairment.” (Source: Nigeriana)

Your skin reflects your health. It’s your body’s canvas and one of its most valuable assets. For good skin care, start developing healthy habits that guard your valued possession from outer (and inner) forces. It’s the only skin you’ll ever get, so your daily habits mean everything. Here are some basic skin care tips:
Clean and moisturize your skin daily. Wash your face twice daily — once in the morning and once at night before going to bed. After you cleanse your skin, follow with a toner and moisturizer. Toners help to remove fine traces of oil, dirt, and make-up that you may have missed when cleansing. Moisturizing is necessary even for people with oily skin. Buy a moisturizer that is best suited for your skin type (dry, normal, or oily).
Block the sun. Over time, exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun causes many changes in the skin, including wrinkles, discoloration, freckles or age spots, benign (non-cancerous) growths such and pre-cancerous or cancerous growths such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. In fact, most skin cancers are related to sun exposure. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with the physical blocker zinc oxide and a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or greater. Cover exposed areas with protective clothing, such as a long-sleeve shirt, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat.
Seek professional help for skin problems. Your skin will not be perfect. It can be dry or oily; it can develop rashes and acne, among many other issues. Address the problem with a professional skin expert, either a skin aesthetician at your local salon or a dermatologist for more severe skin problems.
Self screening. Over the course of your life, you should pay attention to all parts of your skin. Familiarize yourself with it, so you’ll notice any changes that might occur, such as different moles or patches that might indicate skin cancer. Whenever you have a question or concern, make sure you see your doctor

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expelled 755 US diplomatic staff in response to the sanctions placed on them by the US, adding that Moscow could consider additional measures against Washington as a response to new U.S. sanctions approved by Congress.
Moscow ordered the United States on Friday to cut hundreds of diplomatic staff and said it would seize two U.S. diplomatic properties after the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate overwhelmingly approved new sanctions on Russia. The White House said on Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump would sign the sanctions bill.
Putin said in an interview with Vesti TV released on Sunday that the United States would have to cut its diplomatic and technical staff by 755 people by Sept. 1.
“Because more than 1,000 workers – diplomats and support staff – were working and are still working in Russia, 755 must stop their activity in the Russian Federation,” he said.
The new U.S. sanctions were partly a response to conclusions by U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and to punish Russia further for its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
Russia’s response suggested it had set aside initial hopes of better ties with Washington under Trump, something the Republican president, before he was elected, had said he wanted to achieve.
Moscow said on Friday that the United States had until Sept. 1 to reduce its diplomatic staff in Russia to 455 people, which is the same as the number of Russian diplomats left in the United States after Washington expelled 35 Russians in December, 2016.
On Friday, an official at the U.S. Embassy, who did not wish to be identified, said the embassy employed about 1,100 diplomatic and support staff in Russia, including Russian and U.S. citizens.
A US State Department official called Russia’s action “a regrettable and uncalled-for act.” Adding:
“We are assessing the impact of such a limitation and how we will respond to it.”

A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has declared that it is that only spiritual powers that can force President Muhammadu Buhari out of the office, and to tender his resignation, Post-Nigeria reports.
In a recent article titled: “Now that the Governors are back”, Momodu advised people clamouring for the President’s resignation, to stop wasting their time.
He wrote: “No one can say what he would do with a degree of assertion, until he’s been tried and tempted. That is a fact. So let’s accept for now that our President has no intention of abdicating anytime soon. Indeed, it would be premature to ask him to do so in any event. It is clear that he is showing quite remarkable improvement, and almost magical recuperative powers of recovery.
”This means that one cannot say he should quit the stage, when he clearly can continue to act once he has become fully rejuvenated after a long stint of rest and relaxation.
”We must appreciate the fact that there have been several world leaders, who have not been that strong, that have governed their countries from their sick bed.
”President Buhari has demonstrated his ability to do so, because of the able and competent Vice President that he has in Professor Yemi Osinbajo.”

Excess body fat especially around the tummy can seriously harm our health. This also could be the case for normal-weight people who aren’t technically fat but considered obese.
The fat stored in your midsection (your belly), according to experts is more like an extra organ or gland which produces hormones that can affect the well-being of the body.
It’s important to get rid of this belly fat as it is a predictor of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, causes some cancers and high blood pressure.
In women, this visceral fat leads to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which causes problems with your periods and make it difficult to get pregnant and most times result to infertility.
Here’s what contributes largely to belly fat:
Gluttony
Your weight is largely determined by how you balance the calories you eat with the energy you burn. If you eat too much and exercise too little, you’re likely to pack on excess pounds including belly fat.
Age
Aging does play a role too. As you age, you lose muscle especially if you’re not physically active. Loss of muscle mass decreases the rate at which your body uses calories, which can make it more challenging to maintain a healthy weight.
Alcohol
Drinking excess alcohol can cause you to gain belly fat. It can increase belly fat because alcohol contains calories. Although some research suggests wine might be an exception, if you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation.
Processed Foods
Refined foods like white bread, chips and pastries as well as refined sugars in drinks increase inflammation in our bodies, so eating too many processed foods will hinder your ability to lose belly fat.
Natural foods like fruits, vegetables are full of antioxidants, which have anti-inflammatory properties and may therefore actually prevent belly fat.
Inadequate Sleep
Study have it that people who sleep less than six hours a night are more likely to gain 30 or more pounds than those who slept 7 hours. The National Institutes of Health suggest adults sleep seven to eight hours a night. ( Source: The Whistler)
