Gorgeous skin is something all of us want, but sometimes it can be difficult to achieve.
There are some food-inspired beauty treatments that are guaranteed to leave you feeling fresh and chemical free.
These foods help build beautiful skin from the inside out and can also give you an extra boost when applied directly to your skin.
Skincare products can be costly and come with a ton of side effects but these foods are both cost effective and natural.
Here’s a list of foods that are proven to nourish and protect your skin:
1. Honey
Honey is rich in antioxidants that not only cleanse the skin but also protects it from harmful bacteria. You can slather raw honey on your face to create a mask, allow it to set for several minutes, then wash away. Your skin will feel softer and look brighter.
2. Eggs
Eating eggs or applying an egg mask to your face is beneficial for your skin. Eggs are an excellent source of Vitamin A which helps damaged skin repair itself.
3. Apple
Apples are rich in Vitamin C. This is good news for your skin since this mineral works to tighten and tone the skin. Apples can also prevent the production of free radicals that cause premature aging.
You can either eat an apple per day or opt to apply the juices from the fruit directly to your face. Allow it to set for ten minutes before rinsing clean.
4. Carrots
Carrots are high in Vitamin A, which helps repair fine lines and wrinkles.
If you want a quick boost to your skin, try eating more carrots.
5. Rosemary
If you are looking for a great herb that can help your skin, look no further than Rosemary. Like other herbs, rosemary is packed full of antioxidants that help promote healthy skin. It can also shield your skin from the damage of the sun.
6. Tumeric
This root has awesome anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antioxidant and astringent properties; when applied topically, it helps smooth out the skin and fight wrinkles.
Turmeric also may help fade acne scars, too. Just be sure to dilute it with other ingredients like oil, as turmeric by itself may stain the skin.
7. Yoghurt
As long as you stick with plain varieties, yogurt is another great natural moisturizer and skin soother. It’s rich in calcium, protein, and probiotics.
It also contains lactic acid, which works as a mild exfoliant. Apply it to the skin by itself or mix with other natural ingredients for a hydrating mask, which can help prevent premature aging and promote a healthy glow.
8. Cucumber
Cucumber is a very hydrating food. It has anti-inflammatory properties and works to soothe the skin, and can provide relief particularly to dry, sensitive or sun damaged skin. Blend cucumber with your favorite oil to make a refreshing, soothing face mask.
9. Lemon
Citrus fruits as a group contain high levels of vitamin C, which supports the production of collagen and boosts skin elasticity when applied topically.
The alpha-hydroxy acids help to even out skin toner and may also have a lightening effect on the skin. Mix in small amounts of lemon juice to face masks or scrubs to reap the brightening benefits.
10. Coconut oil has incredible moisturizing and restorative properties. It actually contains a fair amount of antioxidants and is also antifungal.
Coconut oil can be used as a super-hydrating and luscious moisturizer for dry or sensitive skin.

According to a report by Vanguard, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday proposed Sept 16 for the conduct of a bye-election to fill the vacant Eti-Osa Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Dr Mudashiru Mustapha, INEC Administrative Secretary in Lagos State, announced the proposed date at a stakeholders meeting attended by party leaders at the Lagos headquarters of the commission.
Mr Kazeem Alimi of the All Progressives Congress, who occupied the seat, died on July 18.
He succumbed to a brief illness at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, two weeks after celebrating his 50th birthday.
Mustapha said the proposed date for the bye-election was chosen after taking into consideration the activities of the commission across the country and the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
He said that the commission was also guided by the Electoral Law which stipulates that the bye-election be conducted within 30 days of receiving an official notice of the death of the lawmaker.
”We officially received the notification of the death of Hon. Alimi on Wednesday. That is why we called this meeting to jointly decide on a date for a bye-election to fill the vacant position.
”We are proposing Saturday, Sept. 16. Once we agree, we notify the headquarters for final approval, after which we roll out the timetable for political parties to start preparations for the election.
“We have notified security agencies, written to the National Youth Service Corps to provide us with ad hoc staff, we need to hold training and put other logistics in place to ensure a successful bye election.
”The date might not be too convenient, but I’m appealing to political parties and other stakeholders to work it out, ” he said.
Some of the party leaders at the meeting expressed divergent views on the suitability of the proposed date.
Rev. Solomon Orji, Lagos State Chairman, Green Party of Nigeria, appealed that the date be extended to allow political parties prepare and participate adequately in the election.
”The timing is too short to allow about 22 political parties to prepare for the bye-election. We are appealing for an extension, ” Orji said.
Mr Akin Badmus, State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement, however, said the electoral law should be adhered to, since it stipulates that a bye-election be held within 30 days.
Mr Kola Ajayi, State Chairman, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) urged the commission to give the council 24 hours to mobilise all the political parties and discuss the proposed date.

President Donald Trump on Thursday thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for ordering the US embassy in Moscow to slash its staff — boasting that this would cut payroll costs.
Last month, the Kremlin demanded thatWashington reduce its diplomatic footprint in Russia by 755 employees — both US diplomats and local staff — and close two compounds.
This was seen as marking a historic new low in post-Cold war Russia-US relations but Trump, who has long argued the case for closer ties, said after a meeting with top aides in New Jersey he saw a silver lining in the crisis.
“I want to thank him because we’re trying to cut down our payroll and, as far as I’m concerned, I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll,” Trump declared.
“There’s no real reason for them to go back. I greatly appreciate the fact that we’ve been able to cut our payroll of the United States. We’re going to save a lot of money.”
The United States and Russia are at loggerheads over Moscow’s armed intervention in Ukraine and Washington’s imposition of economic sanctions on Kremlin allies.
Ties were further clouded by Russia’s interference in last year’s US presidential election, which US intelligence agencies say was designed to help Trump get elected.
Trump’s supporters have dismissed this idea but a US special prosecutor is investigating allegations that members of his campaign colluded with Russian sources.
Last month, US lawmakers passed a law toughening sanctions imposed on Russia for corruption, rights abuses, subversion of Western politics and backing Ukrainian separatists.
Trump opposed the bill, which further blocks him from removing sanctions without consulting Congress, but begrudgingly signed it into law.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Rex Tillersonhas embarked on a wholesale review of State Department operations aimed at cutting costs and refocusing on new objectives.
While in Manila earlier this week, Tillerson had said his department would respond to the Kremlin’s order to cut their Moscow staff before a September 1 deadline.

According to a report by Punch, two patients have died of Lassa fever virus at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos.
LUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chris Bode, who confirmed the deaths on Tuesday, also stated that a resident doctor who took part in the autopsy has been isolated and is presently receiving treatment at the hospital.
He noted that two suspected cases are being followed up at the Isolation Ward in LUTH.
According to Bode, the first case was detected in a 39-year-old pregnant woman who had a bleeding disorder following a stillbirth; while the second victim died within few days of being admitted at the hospital.
The hospital’s management noted that 100 hospital workers who had contact with the index patients are being monitored for the symptoms of the disease.
Bode said, “Each of these two patients presented very late and died in spite of efforts to salvage them.
“Post-mortem examination had been conducted before Lassa fever status was eventually suspected and confirmed.
“No less than 100 different hospital workers exposed to the index case are currently being monitored.
“A resident doctor who took part in the autopsy has been confirmed with the disease and is currently on admission.”
The CMD, however, assured patients and health workers at the teaching hospital not to panic, saying the hospital had the needed drugs and resources at its disposal to prevent an outbreak or spread of the disease within the health facility.
According to him, the state’s Ministry of Health and the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, have sent personnel and experts to assist with the tracing and follow-up of contacts, in addition to managing suspected cases.
He said, “There are adequate materials for containment of the disease, while drugs have been made available to treat anyone confirmed with the disease.
The Centre for Disease Control in Nigeria has also been contacted.
Two other suspected cases from Lagos State are also presently admitted and quarantined while undergoing confirmatory laboratory tests.
“LUTH has always worked closely with officials of the state’s Ministry of Health in handling a number of diseases of public importance such as rabies, cholera, Lassa fever and the recent diarrhoea disease at the Queen’s College,” Bode said.
Lassa fever is an acute febrile illness, with bleeding and death in severe cases. It is spread by rats.
The Director- General, the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba, Dr. Babatunde Salako, said there was a need to map the pattern of the outbreaks and the nature of the vector responsible for the spread of the disease.
Salako, who spoke to our correspondent in Lagos on Tuesday, said it was impossible for one to tackle a disease that one does not know its nature and epidemiology.
He said, “It’s time for us to map out the states that have recorded Lassa fever outbreaks and understudy states that are have never had an outbreak. This is so we can identify why and replicate what we find to help those who record outbreaks yearly.
“After this, we will study the vectors involved in affected states, in this case, the rats. It is after all these that we can come out with an evidence-based policy on prevention of Lassa fever.”
Salako also said its high time Nigeria led a vaccine and treatment research as Nigerian has the highest number of people dying of the disease globally.
“We need to invest in the development of a vaccine because there is none yet and because it does not have high income countries, their governments will not dedicate resources to such ventures.
“We have, however, inaugurated a committee that will map the outbreak, the movement of the vectors, so we can see develop a public health model towards prevention after which we will look at the possibility of research on a vaccine, ” he added.

Amb. Matthew Rycroft, the United Kingdom Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has said the UK supports the warning by U.S President, Donald Trump to return “fire and fury” against North Korea, The Whistler reports.
Speaking to UN Correspondents on Wednesday shortly after the Security Council meeting, Rycroft said both the U.S and UK are united against Pyongyang if it continues to conduct nuclear threats.
“The United Kingdom stands shoulder to shoulder with the United States in tackling this threat and many others.
“We are united in calling on the North Korean regime to halt its nuclear programme.
“The whole of the Security Council has come together behind that and I think that we should see the President’s public comments as one of the many strands of US activism,’’ the British envoy said.
Rycroft pledged that the UK would continue to work closely with the United States and its international partners to ensure that North Korea is not able to pursue its nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile programmes.
“The United States has been very clear about its position.
“The United Kingdom has been very clear about our position and we call on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s regime to listen to that clarity.
“We call on DPRK to act on that clarity, to halt its nuclear programme; to halt its intercontinental ballistic missile programme, and it holds the key to sanctions being removed,” Rycroft said.
On Tuesday, North Korea said it is considering plans to fire “medium-to-long-range” ballistic missiles on the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam.
The strike plan would be put into practice at any moment once leader Kim Jong Un makes a decision, a spokesman for the Korean People’s Army (KPA) said in a statement carried by the North’s state-run KCNA news agency.
The DPRK was reacting to a warning by President Trump that any threat to the United States by North Korea would be met with “fire and fury”.
Trump’s warning came after Pyongyang said it would “make the US pay dearly” for helping spearhead the passage of new UN sanctions against North Korea in response to two recent missile tests.
The U.N. Security Council unanimously imposed new sanctions on North Korea on Saturday over its continued missile tests, a decision that angered Pyongyang.

According to a report by Guardian, FBI agents seized documents in a raid on a home of former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort last month as the explosive probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election gains pace.
A Manafort spokesman confirmed the raid, which the Washington Post described as a pre-dawn search of Manafort’s Alexandria, Virginia home just outside of Washington on July 28.
The Post said federal agents took away “documents and other materials” acting on a search warrant from independent special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between President Donald Trump’s election campaign and Russia.
“FBI agents executed a search warrant at one of Mr Manafort’s residences. Mr Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” said Jason Maloni, a spokesman for Manafort.
The New York Times, citing a person briefed on the matter, said the agents took away tax documents and foreign banking records.
Manafort managed Trump’s campaign until he was forced to resign in August amid reports that he was under investigation over millions of dollars he was allegedly paid by the pro-Russia former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.
Manafort’s private consulting business on behalf of Moscow-linked billionaire oligarchs have fueled concerns about possible collusion, and also questions about how he handled payments for his services.
He also took part in the June 9, 2016 meeting last year between Trump campaign officials, including son Donald Trump Jr. and son-in-law Jared Kushner, and a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer on the promise of damaging information about Trump’s election rival Hillary Clinton.
While the White House has downplayed the meeting as insignificant and said nothing came of it, critics said it indicated the campaign’s willingness to consider cooperating with Russia.
US intelligence agencies say President Vladimir Putin ordered a covert effort to hurt Clinton’s presidential effort last year and boost Trump’s chances of winning.
