Most of us wear makeup because it makes us feel and look better. Teen girls will often cake themselves in products in an attempt to look older and they can be forgiven for getting it wrong – they’ll learn!
But many people wear makeup to try to hide the signs of ageing and to look more radiant and youthful, and sadly they also often get this wrong. Here are six ways to ensure your makeup doesn’t make you look older instead of younger.
1. Don’t wear too much
Are you guilty of really piling on the makeup in an attempt to smooth out your skin so that you appear younger? This is a rookie error. In fact, wearing heavy foundation and doing harsh contouring can flatten out your face and remove any actual signs of life from it. This means that, unless you have really problematic skin, rather switch the heavy coverage for something more sheer.
2. Prime your lines
Just in case you thought that using foundation was the best way to fill in fine lines, you’d be wrong – primer is tops. This amazing product should be applied to clean skin and allowed to dry before you apply your makeup. It will fill in any wrinkles and enlarged pores so that you have a smooth canvas to which to apply your cosmetics.
3. Match your colours
It might seem obvious, but make sure that you choose shades, specifically with regard to foundation and blushes, that are well matched to your skin tone. This is something that a lot of people get very wrong, and it’s obvious in the most cringeworthy way. This might mean that you need different shades for different seasons, but looking natural is the key to looking young and radiant.
4. Wear sunscreen
Living in Africa, we all know how important it is to apply a good-quality SPF daily. This still applies if you are wearing a full face of makeup. Sun damage is one of the biggest causes of ageing, and UV rays can penetrate right through your foundation regardless of how much you apply, which can cause sunspots, discolouration and wrinkles. Prevent this by wearing an SPF under your makeup.
5. Use matt products with caution
Matt lips might still be bang on trend, but when it comes to your foundation it can make you look older. This is because as we get older our skin becomes drier, so adding to the existing dryness by using a setting powder will emphasise any fine lines. Dewy skin is associated with youth, so unless you have excessively oily skin, it’s time to embrace the shine.
6. Keep it natural
A pop of colour on the eyes every now and then can be uber-glam, but if you want to look younger, then something more subtle and neutral, paired with bold lashes, is the way forward. Dark and bright eye shadow has a tendency to look like something from a bad ’80s music video if it isn’t applied properly, so wear it with caution.

According to a report by Post-Nigeria, controversial online media, Sahara Reporters, is reporting that since President Muhamamdu Buhari returned from the United Kingdom, UK, to Nigeria, he has been unable to talk for more than 10 minutes.
Although, Post-Nigeria has not been able to officially confirm the authenticity of the report, as being published by Sahara Reporters.
In the report titled: ”Buhari’s First Day Back On Duty A Loud Disappointment, Concerned Aso Rock Sources Say”, the online news portal maintained that Aso Cabals forced Buhari to come back, due to the forthcoming Sallah celebration.
Sahara Reporters’ publication reads in full:
President Muhammadu Buhari’s return to work on Monday got off to a limp start despite the celebrations which accompanied his return to Nigeria, on Saturday, his health clearly not much improved despite the best spin efforts of the cabal in the Presidency.
Aso Rock insiders who had been made to believe a rejuvenated and energized President would kick-start governance with energy and commitment became disillusioned, as they came to terms with the fact that President Buhari is still reeling in poor health condition.
Several Presidency sources told Sahara Reporters that the manipulative cabal managing the President made a number of moves in the 24 hours preceding Mr. Buhari’s return aimed at consolidating the fictional story of his having fully recovered from whatever ails him. Since arriving in Abuja however, it has become clear he is in no better shape than before he travelled, characterized by incoherence and inability to stay composed, and alert for more than 10 minutes at a time before lapsing into some form of health crisis and serious coughing. Buhari wore three different hats today, literarily
The first assignment of the day, the sources said, was the 7 AM speech which he supposedly gave to announce his return to the country. But the villa sources said the speech was pre-recorded, with no one being sure when it was recorded.
But if the managers thought the Monday breakfast speech would make the President look good to Nigerians, it seems to have achieved the opposite, many Nigerians condemning him for failing to speak about his prolonged absence from work, and the nature of his illness.
Instead, the President addressed perceived division caused by Biafran agitators and the insecurity caused by Boko Haram. He also vaguely addressed Arewa youths, concerning their ultimatum to the Igbos to leave the North.
While that effort clearly rubbed concerned and nervous Nigerians the wrong way, Buhari’s media managers followed up with photos of him signing his resumption letter, with a very short video clip on Twitter, showing him and his controversial Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and another voice in the background giving directives as to which letter would go to Senate or the House of Representatives.
Later in the day, the office of the President released more photos showing Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, visiting him for a “briefing”. Presidency sources disclosed that although the VP was around for close to two hours, there was nothing plausible to write home about, as the President was only “present” for a few minutes, making the meeting very brief and unproductive.
One clear strategy by the cabal, our sources stated, was to keep the President from making offhand comments that could reveal his true health status. That trend started when President Buhari’s cabal began letting visitors see him in London, after he regained a semblance of normalcy following intense treatment that lasted for months. The practice has been to release very short clips of him joking or saying a few words.
In today’s media game, three different sets of photographs were released to the public, with President Buhari donning three different hats in one day. In some photos, he looked quite robust, while in other photos he looked decidedly emaciated.
Meanwhile, President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media has revealed that Mr. Buhari could be heading back to the United Kingdom for medical treatment, a decision many Nigerians have criticized, especially in the light of his failure to disclose his diagnosis.
Sahara Reporters had revealed that President Buhari’s Doctors asked that he remain in London for another month, but his handlers insisted that he comes home for the Sallah, so as to maintain his appeal to his base.
Of all the persons in high office who have talked about President Buhari’s health situation, the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, interestingly stated that that Mr. Buhari needs more prayers, which is contrary to the impression created by his inner circle that he is completely “recovered”, in effect, available fully to resume his office.
Analysts point out that contrary to that impression, it is instructive that it has now been announced that a leader who is supposedly fully recovered from an illness, will now again work from his residence. Some Aides have said in that regard that his main office is under some renovation, a claim our sources dismiss as false.

Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, is pregnant with her first child with her music producer husband, JJC.
The actress was recently spotted rocking the baby bump. Although JJC previously quelled talk of the couple expecting a child back in June by saying it was only a prayer, there’s no denying the actress is expecting now.
She was spotted with
Juliet Ibrahim at an event where they were both hosts.
Nathaniel Bassey has also prophesied that the actress will have twins, hopefully this is the prophesy the gospel singer was talking about.
Congratulations you the lovely couple!

Earwax is, well, pretty gross, so it’s no wonder most of us reach for cotton swabs on a regular basis. But here’s the rub: There’s a good chance you’re putting your ears and your hearing at risk with every wax removal attempt.
Why? The eardrum and the little bones of the middle ear—called ossicles—are easy to damage (ouch), and may even require surgery to fix (double ouch), explains Boris Chernobilsky, MD, assistant clinical professor of otolaryngology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. “In the worst case scenario, damage to the ossicles can result in a leak of fluid from the inner ear,” he says. “This would result in severe vertigo and potentially a permanent hearing loss.”
Also, the skin of the ear canal is ultra-thin, and easily injured by just about anything you put in there. “If skin is broken, it can get infected and lead to a painful external ear infection—swimmer’s ear, in lay terms,” Dr. Chernobilsky adds.
If you want to keep your ears in perfect shape, he recommends ditching the following habits ASAP.
Attempting to clean regularly
Most people actually never need to clean their ears. “Ears are self-cleaning,” Dr. Chernobilsky explains. “It is the only part of the body in which the skin grows in a direction, and brings the wax and skin debris out from the canal to the outer ear.” (When you move your jaw and chew, you’re assisting this process.) Some people have more earwax than others, but in general, the ears make the amount of wax they need. The yellow-orange substance—technically known as cerumen—protects the skin in the ear canal by lubricating it and preventing it from filling up with water.
“It’s a natural skin lotion,” Dr. Chernobilsky says. “Cerumen also has properties which kill certain types of bacteria and prevent the growth of fungus.” So instead of digging for treasure in your ear canals, wait for the wax to loosen on its own and reach the outer ear. Then gently brush it out with a wash cloth.
Inserting cotton swabs
Cotton swabs are bathroom staples, but they’re not meant for use in the ears. It even says so on most packaging. The rigid, pointy shape can damage the skin, eardrum, and ossicles. Swabs can also push the wax in deeper and cause impaction, Dr. Chernobilsky says. One more unpleasant possibility: the cotton head can pop off in your ear canal. If that happens, you need to see a doc to have it removed.
Inserting any pointy objects
“People will stick just about anything they can think of into their ears when they feel discomfort—their long finger nails, bobby pins, sewing needles, keys, to name a few.” Anything sharp or shaped similarly to a cotton swab will pose the same risks of cutting the skin and damaging the inner and outer ear.
Candling
This practice involves placing a hollow, cone-shaped candle into the ear. The heat of the flame supposedly creates a vacuum effect, drawing wax to the candle. While some folks have anecdotal tales of success with candling, research has shown it’s bunk, and Dr. Chernobilsky considers it extremely dangerous: “I have seen eardrum perforations and burns from people’s hair catching on fire.” Yep, we’ll pass!
Rinsing with a syringe
“While this method is generally safe if done right, you are doing it blindly, and you can get a swimmer’s ear if the ear isn’t dried properly when you are done,” Dr. Chernobilsky says. In short: Your ears are not the place to build your own irrigation system.
Is there a safe way to remove wax?
Your best bet when it comes to earwax: Let it be.
But certain people may accumulate wax faster, Dr. Chernobilsky explains. “These are the people that use hearing aids with in-the-ear molds, doctors that use stethoscopes, musicians that use ear plugs, or people that use ear buds to listen to music, to name a few.” If your wax buildup really bothers you, visit your primary care provider or an otolaryngologist every few months to have your ears cleaned out.
Between those doctor visits, you can try an over-the-counter wax softener, as long as you know that your ears are otherwise healthy and you don’t have any cuts in or around the eardrum. Softening products typically involve drops or an oily solution that loosen wax and help it slide to the outer ear. Some products also come with peroxide to dissolve the stuff. “The [softeners] that are oil-based are just fine,” says Dr. Chernobilsky. But if you use a product with peroxide and have a cut, it will burn.
He also warns that if you’ve got a large plug of wax, a softener could make you feel much worse: “The peroxide can cause the wax to expand and cause significant pain, pressure, and hearing loss without dissolving the plug.”
Another trick you can try between doctor visits: Tilt your head to the side and put a few drops of mineral oil in the ear. “I prefer mineral oil to baby oil since it is inert and does not have any fragrances that people with allergies or sensitive skin may react to,” says Dr. Chernobilsky. Then lay your head on a towel-covered pillow for a few minutes, and the wax should slip out.
However, he cautions, this isn’t a solution for a major wax impaction. For that, you still need an MD. (Time)

One of the most eligible bachelors in Nigeria, Bryan Okwara, is not finding it funny the way women treat him because of his good looks.
The former Mr.Nigeria turned actor says his good looks are now a problem because ladies do not take him seriously because they feel he is a play boy.The dread logs wearing actor however admitted that he feels good at the way ladies desire him but this is coming at higher cost.
“There is something you need to understand about being a lady’s man. Yeah, you are a lady’s man and you can’t run away from it, it is something nature has endowed you with. But there is a flipside and it is that people tend to stereotype you and hardly take you seriously. Any woman that walks into your life will just say ‘oh Bryan, we have seen your type before; are you not a fine boy?’
“And you are like ‘what do you mean by that?’ It is a good thing that you walk into a room and every woman is ogling, but there are people that actually see the other side of life and attach importance and value to relationships, and they will not really like that after a while.
“I want people to like me for who I am and not judge the book by its cover.” When asked whether it has affected his relationship with members of the opposite sex, he said: “I would say I have lost friendships that way. Some people just see me and say ‘Bryan, come on, I know your type’ and I am like ‘oh sorry, you don’t even know me’.© Nigeriafilms.com

Cosmetics marketed at women of colour contain higher levels of toxins such as mercury, steroids and hormone-disrupting chemicals that are associated with a range of health problems, including cancer, experts have warned.
According to experts from George Washington University and Occidental College in the US.
• Even small amounts of toxins in beauty products could trigger “adverse health consequences” that affect fertility
• They could affect the development of a foetus’ brains.
• They contain environmental chemicals – from skin-lightening creams and other products designed to enable women to conform to European beauty norms.
• Some skin-lighteners contain hidden ingredients such as mercury and steroids.
• Hair relaxers and straighteners can be laced with the hormone oestrogen, which can trigger premature reproductive development in young girls and tumours in the uterus.
• A chemical used in vaginal douching and other beauty products, called DEP, may also cause birth defects in babies and has been linked to health problems in women.
• Skin-lightening creams can contain hydroquinone, topical corticosteroids, or inorganic mercury, which can lead to mercury poisoning, characterised by damage to the kidneys and the central nervous system.
In a comment article in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Ami Zota and Dr. Bhavna Shamasunder wrote: “Racial discrimination based on European beauty norms can lead to internalised racism, body shame, and skin tone dissatisfaction, factors that can influence product use to achieve straighter hair or lighter skin.
“Thus, beauty product use may be one way that structural discrimination becomes biologically embedded.”
They said the US limits the amount of mercury in skin products, but unlicensed cosmetics were still available.
As reported by the Telegraph, the academics warned that doctors working in obstetrics and gynaecology “should be aware of the potentially toxic effects of commonly used beauty products, recognise disparities across these demographics, and be prepared to counsel patients who have questions about these and other environmental exposures.” (Punch)

Nearly a week after Trump gave an off-the-wall press conference, in which he continued to blame “both sides” for Charlottesville violence, the political fallout continues. Some folks wondered how Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin (who is Jewish) could keep a straight face while standing next to Trump as he rambled about “fine people” within the Nazi/white supremacist contingent. The same question has been posed about other members of the administration who, for reasons of their own, were reportedly mortified by Trump’s comments. A new Axios report claims to have the scoop — after speaking with a “half dozen senior administration officials” — on why they choose to stay despite their disgust:
“You have no idea how much crazy stuff we kill”: The most common response centers on the urgent importance of having smart, sane people around Trump to fight his worst impulses. If they weren’t there, they say, we would have a trade war with China, massive deportations, and a government shutdown to force construction of a Southern wall.”
Other reasons given to Axios include “General Mattis needs us,” “Trump’s not as evil as portrayed,” and “we like the power.” That last one feels like the most candid response — and one that arguably applies universally to politics.
As for Mnuchin, he chooses to believe Trump’s very belated denunciation of extremist groups after Charlottesville criticism showed no signs of slowing. Mnuchin strenuously defended the president in a tweeted statement:
“[A]s someone who is Jewish, I believe I understand the long history of violence and hatred against the Jews (and other minorities) … I feel compelled to let you know that the President in no way, shape or form, believes that neo-Nazi and other hate groups who endorse violence are equivalent to groups that demonstrate in peaceful and lawful ways … I don’t believe the allegations against the President are accurate.”
Well, this should insulate Mnuchin — who also stresses that all of the “highly talented” people within the Trump administration “should be reassuring” to the American people — from being a Trump target anytime soon. It also feels like he’s telling America that White House officials are doing the best they can right now. This might be a fair point after the firing of Steve Bannon, who has alreadyrejoined Breitbart and is preparing for an all-out media war. And with the far-right battling the White House, those embattled officials will only feel more pressure. The coming weeks will be ones to watch.

Osun State-born Nollywood actress, Biola Ige, who is an Economics graduate of the University of Jos is a stunner that should be the dream of any man. But she’s still single, for reasons best known to her.
When Potpourri sought her view on why there is an increasing number of unmarried mothers or Babymamas in the industry, the fair beauty reasoned that it is sometimes by choice and sometimes by circumstance.
“Majority of children born to lone mothers in the industry could not correctly be deemed “unplanned” rather, many were planned or actively sought. And the majority were somewhere in the middle between planned and unplanned. These women want a way of establishing lasting relationships, to have an extension of their beloved piece while some can be related to their financially and impoverished circumstances,” she said.
Then she expressed her disenchantment with the institution of marriage. “As we all know, marriage doesn’t guarantee anything anymore, because it’s not like it used to be with our parents, as infidelity, domestic violence, drug and alcohol problems is almost a universal problem among men,” she added.

He said, “The message to Nigerians is that the recovery and recuperation of the president in some sense is symbolic of that fact that Nigeria is going to recover.”
“We are on the path to ensure economic recovery and this is a good sign. Our country is on the right path; there is a great hope, there is great excitement and we are going to make it as a nation.”
Osinbajo, who has been holding the fort for the president in an acting capacity, said Nigerians are also happy to see their president return home after spending 103 days in the United Kingdom.
“I am extremely happy that the president is back in good health. Many Nigerians – as we can see while coming out from the airport – are very excited to see the president”.
The presidential jet left London at 10:27 AM and touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 4:38 PM on Saturday.
President Buhari was received at the airport by Professor Osinbajo and members of the Federal Executive Council among other dignitaries.
