Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, says supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari were not in support of his choice of Aisha Alhassan as a minister.
Speaking with state house correspondents after meeting with the president on Friday, the governor said Alhassan has never been a supporter of Buhari.
He said he was not surprised that the minister openly endorsed former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
“I just came to see the President and wish him very happy Sallah arrears, I wasn’t able to go to Daura. Hours of works and interactions, today being Friday I happen to be in town and thought I should come see him, pray with him and wish him well.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Jummai Alhassan, has been in the Students Union. In the APC she was never in the Buhari camp, she did not support our candidates during the National Convention, she didn’t vote for Buhari during the Primaries. But out of largeness of the President’s heart and to encourage women……Even though she was never a supporter of his politics or what he believes in, his ideology.
He still believed that to encourage women in politics , what she has tried to do in Taraba earned her being nominated as a Minister. Many in Buhari camp did not support it but he overode everybody. He tries to consider every Nigerian his own son or daughter and he nominated here.
Her comments are not surprising. She has never been a supporter, she has never believed in Buhari ideology. So, I am not surprised. As a Nigerian, as an individual she has every right to express her views and support whoever she wants.
What I am saying is Nigerians should not be surprised or shocked. This has always been her position because from time she has never supported Buharism or what Buhari stands for. Being part of Buhari government is a different thing because government sets policies and if you are a minister you execute the policies. You can execute those policies while pursuing a different brand of politics.
The governor maintained that she was entitled to her opinion and added that it was at the discretion of the president to either retain or replace her.
“As a Nigerian, she has every right to express her views and support whoever she wants,” he said.

The minister was at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday but did not meet Abba Kyari, Buhari’s chief of staff, whom she had gone to see.

Looking good should not feel like a chore. So, here are 10 tricks that will have you looking stunning in no time!
- When applying foundation, start at the centre of your face (around your nose) and blend towards the outside. Applying the other way around will make it appear as if you’re wearing a mask around the hairline and jawline.
- Tired of redoing your cat-eye liner a few times because it doesn’t come out straight enough? Use your bank card to make it straight and perfect.
- Use white eyeliner on the inside of your lower lid to open up your eyes.
- Did you buy a slightly darker shade of foundation by mistake? Don’t return it; just mix it with your day moisturiser to lighten it up.
- Make your lipstick last longer by holding tissue over your lips after application, and dusting with translucent powder.
- Use your old toothbrush to clean a clogged hairdryer.
- Hide old gel manicure that’s growing out by adding glitter. Not only will it look like a nail trend, but it will also last for another week.
- Prevent lipstick off your teeth by sticking your finger in your mouth after applying, then pulling it out. The excess lipstick will be on your finger and not your teeth.
- Get rid of dry, cracked heels by applying petroleum jelly after washing them. Cover up with socks to seal in the moisture. Do this at night for optimum results.
- Dry your nail polish faster by dipping your hands in cold water for five minutes after application.

According to a report by The Citizen Nigeria, Fifteen states and the District of Columbia went to court Wednesday to block President Donald Trump’s plan to end a programme protecting young immigrants from deportation — an act former President Barack Obama called ‘cruel’.
Washington state’s attorney general, Bob Ferguson called it part of a “dark time for our country.”
The lawsuit filed in federal court in Brooklyn asked a judge to conclude that the president’s action involving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, is unconstitutional.
It called the move “a culmination of President Trump’s oft-stated commitments … to punish and disparage people with Mexican roots.”
The multistate lawsuit filed by a group of Democratic attorneys general on Wednesday to protect beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program argues their state economies will be hurt if residents lose their status.
The attorneys general also argue the government has not guaranteed DACA recipients that their application information will not be used “for purposes of immigration enforcement, including identifying, apprehending, detaining, or deporting non-citizens.”
“The consequence of the president’s animus-driven decision is that approximately 800,000 persons who have availed themselves of the program will ultimately lose its protections” and be exposed to deportation, the lawsuit says.
New York’s Attorney General Eric Schneiderman took the lead filing the case in the Eastern District of New York. He said that 42,000 New Yorkers participate in DACA, and the end of the program will be “devastating” for them and would cause “huge economic harm” to the state.
In commenting on the suit, the U.S. Department of Justice noted that DACA was implemented under an executive order by former President Barack Obama, not through congressional action.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday the program will end in six months so Congress can have time to find a legislative solution for the people in the program, who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children or came with families who overstayed visas.
Plaintiffs in the lawsuit are New York, Massachusetts, Washington, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.
California, one of the most solid Democratic states, was noticeably absent.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra plans to file a separate lawsuit because a quarter of DACA recipients are California residents, his spokeswoman Bethany Lesser said.
Becerra’s office has not said when the lawsuit will be filed or whether it will include different legal arguments.
Under the move by Trump, people already enrolled in DACA remain covered until their permits expire. If that happens before March 5, they are eligible to renew them for another two years as long as they apply by Oct. 5. But the program isn’t accepting new applications.
Opponents of the program said they are pleased with the Trump administration’s decision. They called DACA an unconstitutional abuse of executive power.
Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson, both Democrats, called Trump’s action cruel and outrageous, given that the decision was announced by Sessions rather than the president himself.
