Justice Nnamdi Dimgba gave INEC the permission to go ahead with the process on Monday after dismissing Melaye’s suit for lacking merit.
Melaye had filed a suit seeking to stop INEC from recalling him from the Senate following a petition it received from the constituents of Kogi West Senatorial District, which Melaye represents.
Dimgba, in his judgment, premised his opinion on the grounds that Melaye was hasty to run to the court and that he should have explored and exhausted the internal mechanisms provided by the 1999 Constitution.
According to the judge, “Melaye’s complaints are hasty, premature and presumptuous.’’
He therefore ordered INEC to go ahead with its planned verification of signatures contained in the petition.
The judge, however, ordered INEC to furnish Melaye with a copy of the petition it received, a schedule of the signatories and a full list of persons in support of the recall petition.
The judge held that the constituents who wrote the petition to INEC seeking his recall were not under any duty to serve him with a copy of the petition or offer him an opportunity to defend himself.
“I do not believe that the petitioners have the duty to serve the plaintiff with a copy of the petition. The duty of the constituents is to write and submit their petition to the electoral body.
“There is no provision in Sections 68 and 69 of the Constitution that provides the scope for the writers of the petition to inform the plaintiff of plans to recall him or for him to come and clear himself of allegations levelled against him.
The trial judge held that the only option available for Melaye, was for him to go through the verification process to be conducted by INEC.
He further held that it was only when Melaye noticed any infraction, fake signatures or names of dead persons during the verification exercise that he could approach the court to seek redress.
On the 90 days time limit set for the recall process, the court said it was doubtful of the date beginning from June 23, 2017.
He said even if it existed; the 90 days paused on July 6, 2017 when the court made an interim order on the suit.
“Ordinarily, the 90 days begins today that this pronouncement has been made.”
Melaye had among other reliefs prayed the court to declare that the petition his constituents presented to INEC for his recall was illegal, unlawful, invalid, null and void and of no effect in law.
He had further prayed the court to declare the petition invalid and of no effect, on the grounds that it was signed by fictitious, dead and non existing persons in his senatorial district.
He also contested that the recall was invalid because he was not served a copy of the petition and that not serving him a copy of the petition violated his rights to fair hearing as well as natural justice.
A sister suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking the nullification of the recall process was also dismissed.

When a woman is pregnant, a lot of changes happen to her body. One of such changes is the appearance of stretch marks. For some women, it is only when they are pregnant these marks appear while for others they don’t have to be pregnant. Although stretch marks are very easy to get, they are not difficult to get rid of. The only thing women fear is the stigma, especially from men. Some men say that they dislike stretch marks. Whatever the case may be, we share five ways to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.
1. Keep your body hydrated
Your body needs to be hydrated for maximum skin elasticity. Skin elasticity is the skin’s ability to stretch and then go back to normal. So, drinking between 8 and 12 cups of water daily can help skin elasticity and thus prevent these stretch marks. Generally, it is not good for pregnant women to be dehydrated.
2. Use moisturizers and creams
Creams and moisturizers can be used to keep the skin moist and damp. It is advisable to use creams that contain Vitamin E or Vitamin A. This types of cream cannot cause any damage to the skin and can also prevent these marks. You should use it preferably after having your bath. Important, avoid using harsh chemicals on your skin.
3. Don’t eat for two
Yes, you are carrying an extra life in your belly and the temptation or craving will be there to eat for two. You don’t need to eat for two no matter how hungry you are. You should eat enough that will satisfy you. The only thing you need to do is to eat a balanced diet. Eating for two or eating too much during pregnancy can cause stretch marks.
4. Exercise during pregnant
Not all pregnant women will be disposed to exercise during pregnant. But it is good you try to do it as exercising help retains skin elasticity by improving the circulation. There is no gainsaying that the exercises you perform should not be intense.
5. Gain weight gradually
This is perhaps the quickest way to get stretch marks. The faster you gain weight, the more you are vulnerable to stretch marks. You should follow your doctor’s recommendation for slowly gaining weight. Usually, women add weight when pregnant.

Trump’s security adviser Gorka, who is seen as an outspoken and combative defender of President Donald Trump’s national security agenda, left his position willingly.
According to CNN, the news, which came late on Friday, was widely expected in the West Wing, which has now seen high-profile departures on successive Fridays for several weeks.
Gorka was one of Trump’s most prominent cheerleaders, frequently hitting the airwaves to defend the President’s policies and public statements.
But his role outside of television hits was unclear.
He did not play a major policy-making role, according to administration officials, and was not a member of the National Security Council.
A White House official told CNN that the security expert submitted his resignation to retired Gen. John Kelly, the White House chief of staff, on Friday.
The official said it had become clear that Gorka would not be allowed to have a meaningful role going forward.
But a separate White House official disputed that he resigned.
“Sebastian did not resign, but I can confirm he is no longer with the White House,” the second White House official said, according to a statement given to reporters.
Kelly, who assumed the chief of staff role in late July, has been conducting a review of the West Wing that includes assessing individual staffers’ portfolios.
A person familiar with the situation said Kelly was coming up empty when it came to Gorka’s role, though he recognised his efforts to promote Trump’s message on television.
Gorka’s TV appearances when he often sparred with hosts and reporters were popular with Trump, however, complicating decisions about his future.
But most White House staffers came to see the departure last week of chief strategist Steve Bannon as a sign that Gorka’s days were numbered.
Gorka’s work for Trump dates back as far as 2015; Federal Election Commission filings showed that Gorka was paid $8,000 that October to be a policy consultant for the Trump campaign.
His position as a member of the White House’s Strategic Initiatives Group, was a focal point for task forces collaborating with people outside government.
The resignation adds to a long list of high-profile departures from the White House, including chief strategist Steve Bannon, chief of staff Reince Priebus and press secretary Sean Spicer.
A CNN K-File review of Gorka’s public comments throughout the presidential campaign shows that even after his work for Trump, the former Breitbart national security editor offered stinging critiques of his future boss’s rhetoric on key foreign policy issues from terrorism to Russia and China.
Gorka, a U.S. citizen who was born in Britain and has Hungarian parents, was known for his dire warnings of Islamic terrorism while at Breitbart.

Monkeypox is a rare and infectious disease caused by monkey virus, transmitted from animals to human, with symptoms similar to those of smallpox, although less severe.
The first incident of the disease in Nigeria was reported on September 22 in Bayelsa, and according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 31 suspected cases have been reported across seven states including Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun and Cross River.
To stay safe from this disease which has no known cure or vaccine, below are 12 things to know.
- Monkeypox occurs sporadically in some remote parts of central and West Africa. It was first discovered in monkeys hence the name, monkeypox.
- The disease was first identified in 1958 by the State Serum Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark, during an investigation into a pox-like disease among monkeys.
- The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a period of intensified effort to eliminate smallpox.
- The infection can be contracted from direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or cutaneous or mucosal lesions of infected animals like monkeys, Gambian giant rats, squirrels, and rodents. Eating inadequately cooked meat of infected animals is a possible risk factor.
- Secondary, or human-to-human, transmission can result from close contact with infected respiratory tract secretions, skin lesions of an infected person or objects recently contaminated by patient fluids or lesion materials.
- The symptoms of monkeypox are similar to but milder than the symptoms of smallpox. Monkeypox begins with fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, and exhaustion. The main difference between symptoms of smallpox and monkeypox is that monkeypox causes lymph nodes to swell while smallpox does not. The incubation period (time from infection to symptoms) for monkeypox is usually 7-14 days but can range from 5−21 days. Within the first three days or more, after the appearance of fever, the patient develops a rash, often beginning on the face then spreading to other parts of the body.
- Monkeypox can be transmitted from human to human through physical touch, contact with stool, blood contact. Avoid contact with animals that could harbour the virus (including animals that are sick or that have been found dead in areas where monkeypox occurs).
- Avoid contact with any materials, such as bedding, that has been in contact with a sick animal or person. Isolate infected patients from others who could be at risk for infection.
- Practice good hand hygiene with or without contact with infected animals or humans. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- There is presently no known or proven, safe treatment for monkeypox virus infection.
- Vaccination against smallpox has been proven to be 85% effective in preventing monkeypox in the past but the vaccine is no longer available to the public after it was discontinued following global smallpox eradication in 1980.
- Monkeypox has been shown to cause death in about as 10 percent of those who contract the disease. Children are more susceptible to the infection.
