Africans in the diaspora would join Haitians, and El-Salvadorians in rallies to protest against U.S. President Donald Trump’s alleged racist remarks, Today Nigeria reports.
The rallies would begin on Monday in major cities, including New Jersey, Atlanta, Houston.
He was reported to have branded Haiti, El Salvador and unspecified African nations as “shithole countries”.
The organisers of the event urged all people of African descent and others to attend the rally to “reject the denigration President Trump uttered against us”.
The U.S. president reportedly made the comment during a meeting with congressional leaders in the Oval Office on Thursday.
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump allegedly said after being presented with a proposal to restore protections for immigrants from the countries in question.
The protest tagged: ‘Rally against Trump’ at Time Square on Monday, would commemorate the Martin Luther King Jr. Day., which celebrates the death of the civil rights icon.
The Day is a Federal holiday in the U.S. falling on the third Monday of every January and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of King, who was tragically assassinated on April 4, 1968.
“In response to the comments made by President Trump on Thursday about countries including Africa and Haiti, please Join Mayor Bill de Blasio in denouncing Trump at a rally at Time Square on Monday.
“On MLK Day, New York City will take a stand for our sisters and brothers from Haiti, throughout Africa, El Salvador and other nations in the diaspora that have become targets of President Trump’s hatred and bigotry.
“This moment is too critically important for us not to come together.
“Let’s honour Dr King’s birthday by showing the world the progress being made to help achieve his dream,” Famod Konneh, Bronx Borough Director, New York City Office of the Mayor, said.
However, Trump had, while signing the proclamation for King’s Day on Wednesday last week, said the late civil rights leader “dedicated his life to a vision: that all Americans would live free from injustice and enjoy equal opportunity as children of God”.
“His strong, peaceful, and lifelong crusade against segregation and discrimination brought our Nation closer to the founding ideals set forth in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
“Today, as we come together to honour Dr King, we know that America is stronger, more just, and more free because of his life and work,” Trump said.

An ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, has denied speculations that she is planning to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Premium Times reports.
The minister also pledged allegiance on President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “I am and I will continue to remain in APC.’’
Mr. Abubakar had in December defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was speculated that Mrs. Alhassan, a former senator, and other allies of the former vice president would join him in the PDP.
She had earlier in September said she would support Mr. Abubakar for the 2019 presidential election even if President Muhammadu Buhari decided to run.
“Atiku is my godfather even before I joined politics,” she said in Hausa. “And again, Baba Buhari did not tell us that he is going to run in 2019.”
“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku said he is going to contest.”
But in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES, the minister, popularly called Mama Taraba, said she was not forced to leave the PDP on which platform she became a senator, she would remain in the APC.
“Politics is all about interest, and nobody forced me to leave PDP to join APC, so no want will force me out of it,” she said.
“I will continue to work for APC and that’s why I travelled out to Taraba, to campaign for our party’s candidate Sanusi Jambawaile.
“I know many may wish to see me leaving APC, but let me assure them I will remain in APC!
‘’So, how can I destroy the house we collectively built?”
Although, she declined comment on Mr. Abubakar’s defection from the APC, said the party “is intact in Taraba.’’
She added, “There is no squabble or faction, and our great party APC in Taraba is intact. That’s why we all work and campaigned together with His Excellency the former Acting Governor UTC.
‘’So, we are one no any problem as some of you thought,’’ she further.
Meanwhile, the acting chairman of APC in the state, Sani Chul, has expressed happiness with the minister’s decision to remain in the party.
“We are really happy with her decision, it is clear that she has seen some changes in the areas she complaint about in recent past if there are any,” he said
“Yes, there were issues in APC like in any other party but clearly we are better.
“And most importantly, it is the minister that should be congratulated because by her action, she has extended the lifespan of her political career; she would have a lot to gain in the APC than in PDP.’’
Also speaking, one of the minister’s supporters, Naomi Dogo, said it would be a “suicidal mission” if she joined Mr. Abubakar in the PDP.
“Following Atiku to PDP or whatever party would be a suicide mission for her; Atiku had globe trotted from one party to another, all in a bid to become president and Nigerians would not gamble with their future,” she said.
“Power belongs to God and you can’t get it by force; he too should have persevered in the APC to see what God has in stock for him; we earnestly congratulate Mama Taraba for making a tough but wise decision to remain in APC.”

Temi Solomon, who is Reekado Banks’ manager and brother, insists that his artiste is unapologetic for saying he is a better artiste than Lil Kesh.
At his recent Thank You concert in Ibadan, Reekado declared in pidgin English that he is better than Lil Kesh and his father. He said, “I remember when they said I didn’t deserve the Next Rated award. The person that they said deserved the award, I am better than his father.”
When Sunday Scoop reached out to Reekado’s manager and brother over the statement, he said his brother only said what was on his mind, but he didn’t mean to hurt anyone.
He said, “It is not something I want to talk about. If certain people were annoyed because he spoke his mind, I think those people are not his fans. Our fans would not complain about what he said in that manner. He didn’t mean to hurt or harm anyone and we don’t have something against the artiste (Lil Kesh).”
According to Temi, Banks was not misinterpreted, neither was he under any influence when he said he is better than Lil Kesh. He said, “If he said he is better than someone, he probably meant it. I really want to know the fans who were angry about it. Was it Reekado’s fans or the person’s fans? He said what was on his mind and it is not compulsory for everyone to agree with him.

Mr. Beagle said, “On behalf of the Secretary-General, I have the honour to inform you that at the 55th plenary meeting of the seventy-second session of the General Assembly, the General Assembly decided to appoint you as an ad-hoc member of the Investments Committee for a one-year term of office, beginning from 1st January, 2018.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment and wish you success in your work.”
The Representative of the UN Secretary-General on the Investments Committee of the UNJSPF, Carolyn Boykin, also congratulated the minister on her appointment and welcomed her to the committee.
Ms. Boykin explained that the purpose of the investments of the UNJSPF was to secure the pension entitlements of the international civil servants who participate in the Fund.
“The fiduciary responsibility is to all parties concerned and it is the responsibility of the Secretary-General to ensure that those investments are managed to preserve the capital of the Fund and to obtain a long-term real rate of investment return that is line with the actuarial assumptions, without jeopardizing the capital of the Fund by taking excessive risks,” Ms. Boykin stated.

Nigerian singer, Lil Kesh has reacted to Reekado Banks claims that he is a better singer than he is.
Reekado Banks had made a statement during his Thank You Concert in Ibadan in which he said that he was better than Lil Kesh and that there was no basis for comparison.
Lil Kesh in an interview with Saturday Beats, said: “I saw the video online where Reekado Banks said that he was better than me, but I have nothing to say about that. I don’t care what anybody says, and I don’t have any feelings regarding what he said because I am just in my own world.”
“I was not scared when I took the step to leave Olamide’s record label. I am never scared; I just knew it was the right move, so I was never scared. So far, I think the steps have helped me more as a person and as a brand. For one, I am a better person mentally and right now, I am not an instrument for the growth of someone’s business. Instead, I am instrumental to my own growth.
“Looking at the financial side as well, it was a good step. I cannot say I would reap what I have sown immediately, but every move I make now is to ensure I have a brighter future. I am doing all this for the future.
“When I announced that I left Olamide’s record label, some people were sceptical, but I proved them wrong by releasing hit songs. To me, there was no option of failure; it was a win-win situation. That was my strength and my fans have been so amazing in motivatting me. Thanks to my fans. With little effort, the results have always been amazing.
“Life as a label owner compared to when I was under a record label is good, but I have more responsibilities now. Life is a bit tougher now because of the responsibilities; it depicts growth and leaving YBNL was a very big step in my life,” the singer said.
The two artistes had a ‘beef’ at the 2015 Headies Awards. Reekado Banks took home the award for the Next Rated Artiste, which came with a new SUV and this caused a stir as some people had thought Lil Kesh would win the award.

Vaginal yeast infection is a highly prevalent infection among women that causes many complications, including preterm labour, urinary tract infection, and reduced quality of life. This type of fungus, commonly called yeast, is associated with discomfort in s3xual disorders, dryness and pain.
Recently, this infection has increased dramatically in terms of severity and incidence mainly due to the increase in cases of immunodeficiency, such as AIDS, cancer and cancer treatment.
One of the drugs which have been taken into consideration to treat vaginal yeast infection, in the recent years, is clotrimazole that is administered as suppository.
However, recent studies have shown that this over-the-counter antifungal to treat vaginal yeast infections like Candida albicans have lost their effectiveness.
Despite their high cost, the infection keeps coming back, year after year. This lack of effective treatment is causing high demand for new antifungal drugs that are more effective and less toxicity.
But Iranian scientists have found a mixture of either ginger with clotrimazole or yogurt and honey with clotrimazole more effective and as such may be more useful than the clotrimazole to treat vaginal candidiasis.
In a new study, researchers at the Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences compared the clinical effect of ginger cream along with clotrimazole with vaginal clotrimazole alone.
Ginger has been used for the treatment of various diseases. Previous tests on it had shown that it contains a protein that can be used against numerous fungi.
This double-blind clinical trial was conducted on married women aged between 25 and 35 years with vaginal candidiasis that were referred to the Gynaecology Clinic of Hajar Hospital in 2015. They were divided randomly into two groups of 33 and 34 people.
Ginger-clotrimazole vaginal cream one per cent and clotrimazole vaginal cream one per cent were administered to groups one and two, respectively, once a day for seven days and therapeutic effects and symptoms were evaluated on readmission.
Factors such as pregnancy, menstruation, and certain diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, use of Intrauterine Device for birth control and having more than one s3xual partner that may predispose to women to this fungal infection were excused in the participants.
The study in the 2017 edition of the Journal of Advanced Pharmaceutical Technology and Research indicated that recurrence in clotrimazole group was 48.5 per cent and in ginger-clotrimazole group 51.2 per cent during a month follow-up.
They found that although itching, burning, and cheesy secretions in ginger and clotrimazole group was lower than those in clotrimazole group, the difference was statistically significant only in cheesy secretions.
They concluded: “This cream, as an herbal and natural medicine, may be a good alternative for people who cannot use azoles.”
Previously, researchers suggested that the therapeutic effects of vaginal cream, yogurt and honey is not only similar with clotrimazole vaginal cream but is more effective in relieving some symptoms of vaginal candidiasis.
In a randomised, triple blind clinical trial involved 70 non-pregnant women infected with vaginal candidiasis, the researchers found signs and symptoms of vaginal candidiasis reduced significantly using a vaginal cream containing yogurt and honey.
For the study, a group was treated with vaginal cream mixed of yogurt and honey and the other with clotrimazole vaginal cream. Clinical and laboratory signs and symptoms of the fungal infection were monitored over the period of test.
The researchers indicated that more than 75 per cent of the yogurt and honey group recovered from itches in seven days compared to 66 per cent in clotrimazole group.
They reasoned that yogurt and honey mixture prevents colonisation of Candida species, adding, “the combination of honey with yogurt causes a synergistic effect of honey against candidiasis.”
Reporting in 2015 edition of the Global Journal of Health Sciences, they declared: “administration of honey in combination with yogurt has desired effect in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis. And cause the reduction and recovery from vaginal candidiasis
“Also, it is more economical in terms of costs and it does not have the synthetic drugs side effects. Therefore, their use in combination with topical formulations for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis would be useful.”
Laboratory and clinical results of honey has indicated it inhibits the growth of various fungi such as Candida. Also, yogurt and probiotics are commonly used by women when they are infected with vaginal infection.(Tribune)

President Donald Trump has allegedly questioned why the US would want to have immigrants from Haiti and African nations, referring to some as “shithole countries”, Daily Post reports.
This is contained in a new Reuters report, weeks after alleged similar comment by Trump triggered outrage.
In December, New York Times reported that Trump, in reaction to the rising number of migrants in the US, said “Nigerians never return to their huts after seeing America and Haitian immigrants to the United States all have AIDS”.
Trump’s latest remarks allegedly made in the White House, came as Democratic Senator Dick Durbin and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham briefed the president on a newly drafted immigration bill being touted by a bipartisan group of senators.
The lawmakers were describing how certain immigration programs operate, including one to give safe haven in the United States to people from countries suffering from natural disasters or civil strife.
Reuters quoted one of the sources who was briefed on the conversation said that Trump said, “Why do we want all these people from Africa here?
“They’re shithole countries…We should have more people from Norway.”
The second source familiar with the conversation, said Trump, who has vowed to clamp down on illegal immigration, also questioned the need for Haitians in the United States.
Many Democrats and some Republican lawmakers slammed the president for his remarks.
Republican U.S. Representative Mia Love, a daughter of Haitian immigrants, said the comments were “unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values”.
Love called on Trump to apologise to the American people and to the countries he denigrated.
Another Republican Representative, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who was born in Cuba and whose south Florida district includes many Haitian immigrants, said: “Language like that shouldn’t be heard in locker rooms and it shouldn’t be heard in the White House.”
Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, a frequent Trump critic, said the president’s comment “smacks of blatant racism, the most odious and insidious racism masquerading poorly as immigration policy.”
In an apparent response to his critics, Trump took to Twitter late on Thursday night.
Trump tweeted: “The Democrats seem intent on having people and drugs pour into our country from the Southern Border, risking thousands of lives in the process.
“It is my duty to protect the lives and safety of all Americans. We must build a Great Wall, think Merit and end Lottery & Chain. USA!”
The programme that was being discussed at the White House is called Temporary Protected Status.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration decided to end the status for immigrants from Haiti and Nicaragua.
It gave the approximately 59,000 Haitian immigrants who had been granted the status until July 2019 to return home or legalise their presence in the U.S.
Nicaraguans were given until January 2019.
On Monday, Trump moved to end the status for immigrants from El Salvador, which could result in 200,000 Salvadorans legally in the United States being deported, beginning in September of 2019.
