Overeating is something many of us have battled with at one point or the other. However, there are some important ways to effectively deal with it and stop yourself from eating too much. Jumia Food, Nigeria’s No. 1 online food ordering platform, shares 4 ways to stop yourself from eating too much.
Use the Hunger Scale
You need to learn how to figure out the physical cues that signal true hunger and a real need for nourishment, and a great way to do this is through the use of the hunger scale. This will help you figure out your need when it comes to food. There are six major components of the hunger scale and they include: Starving (an uncomfortable, empty feeling that may be accompanied by lightheadedness or the jitters caused by low blood sugar levels from lack of food); Hungry (your next meal is on your mind, at this point you are not exactly feeling the physical effects of hunger except the usual hunger pangs); Moderately Hungry (there’s that nagging feeling of hunger. Your stomach may be growling and you might feel some faint hunger pangs. At this point you’re already planning what your next meal is going to be); Satisfied (you’re satiated, meaning you’re not exactly feeling full but you’re not hungry either. You’re simply relaxed and comfortable); Full (At this point, if you’re still eating, it is more ‘out of momentum’ than actual hunger because your belly would already feel slightly bloated, and the food would no longer taste as good); Stuffed (you feel uncomfortable, your stomach feels like it’s about to burst open, and you might even have a mild heartburn from your stomach acids creeping back up to your oesophagus).
Take a Low Calorie Snack
If you’re feeling hungry between meals, or a short-while after eating a sizeable meal, it is best to either drink some water to help curb the misleading feeling of hunger or take a low-calorie snack. This is the best way you can avoid overeating between meals. You should be sure to favour snacks or fruits that contain more fiber and water so you can avoid the calories while loading your body with disease-fighting nutrients.
Favour High-Volume Meals
High-volume meals are those that involve solid foods that have high fluid content which helps to better suppress hunger and the need to overeat. Eating foods with high-water content versus those with low-water content ensures that you get bigger portions for less calories, and can consume more food to help fully satisfy your hunger, and leave you satiated.
Make Eating Right a Habit
Overeating is a bad habit and once you can make up your mind to making eating right a habit, you’ll be fine. This is one of the most straightforward ways to stop yourself from eating too much and actually keeping it up. It is scientifically proven that it takes 30 days to break/make a habit, so please get started now, it is possible and you can do it. Consistency is the key to taking charge of your eating habits and feeling better about your body and overall self.

US President Donald Trump warned Thursday of the “devastating” consequences of a government shutdown even as he lobbed wrenches into intense Republican maneuvering to avoid a politically embarrassing funding debacle.
With the federal government set to run out of money at midnight Friday, the president added to the chaos with a burst of early morning tweets.
He second-guessed Republican leaders in Congress and slapped down his own chief of staff who had been leading a White House push on Capitol Hill for a budget compromise.
Arriving at the Pentagon for a visit, Trump told reporters the government “could very well” shut down Friday.
The House of Representatives was expected to vote as early as Thursday on a short-term funding measure, but it was unclear if Republicans had the votes to prevail.
In the event of a shutdown, federal employees for agencies considered non-essential are ordered to stay home until a budget deal is struck, at which point they are paid retroactively. The most recent shutdowns — in 1995, 1996 and 2013 — saw some 800,000 workers furloughed per day.
Key government bodies such as the White House, Congress, State Department and Pentagon would remain operational, but would likely furlough some staff. The military would still report for duty, but troops — including those in combat — would potentially not be paid.
The finger-pointing had already begun, with each side blaming the other for a failure to reach a budget compromise after three previous funding extensions.
“A government shutdown will be devastating to our military… something the Dems care very little about!” Trump tweeted.
And yet in another tweet, Trump criticized the Republican short-term funding measure, opposing a sweetener intended to make it hard for Democrats to vote against it.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said later he had spoken to the president, and insisted: “He fully supports passing what we’re bringing to the floor today.”
Bargaining chip
The sweetener is a six-year extension of a popular children’s health insurance program, known as CHIP, a program Democrats have worked hard to protect.
But Trump insisted: “CHIP should be part of a long term solution, not a 30 Day, or short term, extension!”
Republican Senator John Cornyn quickly corrected Trump in a counter-tweet: “The current house Continuing Resolution package has a six-year extension of CHIP, not a 30 day extension.”
Nancy Pelosi, the top Democrat in the House, dismissed the Republicans move on CHIP as “like giving you a bowl of doggie doo, put a cherry on top sundae. This is nothing.
“This CHIP should have been done in september,” she told reporters.
Up against a similar deadline last month, lawmakers had passed a short-term resolution to keep the federal government funded until January 20.
Many Democrats are already opposed to another short-term fix, leaving Republicans to rely on their own divided caucus to advance the measure.
If it fails, Democrats will gain greater leverage to insist on a funding compromise that includes protection from deportation for the so-called “Dreamers,” the estimated 700,000 immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children.
Negotiations on a bipartisan compromise that includes a fix on DACA, as the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program is known, collapsed in acrimony at a White House meeting last week.
Trump’s reported reference to African nations and Haiti as “shithole countries”ignited a still smoldering political firestorm.
No ‘evolution’
White House chief of staff John Kelly met Wednesday with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to make the case that Trump had “evolved” on his signature campaign promise to build a wall the length of the US border.
Funding for border security, but not a full-blown wall, was part of the bipartisan budget compromise presented at last week’s contentious White House talks.
Participants at the meeting with Kelly quoted the retired general and former head of the Department of Homeland Security as saying Trump was not “fully informed” when he made the wall promise.
But Trump hit back on Twitter Thursday.“The Wall is the Wall, it has never changed or evolved from the first day I conceived of it,” he wrote.
“If there is no Wall, there is no Deal!” Trump said in another tweet that described Mexico as “now rated the most dangerous country in the world.”
Mexico once again said it would not pay for the wall, despite Trump’s repeated insistence that it will.
The mixed messages from the White House prompted a rebuke Wednesday from frustrated Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“I’m looking for something that President Trump supports, and he’s not yet indicated what measure he’s willing to sign,” McConnell told reporters.
“As soon as we figure out what he is for, then I would be convinced that we were not just spinning our wheels.”

Award-winning South African hip-hop act, Cassper Nyovest has shared his thought on what he thinks about the rivalry between Nigerian and South African rappers.
The South African rapper who won the Best Hip Hop act award at the just concluded Soundcity MVPs spoke with Pulse NG in an interview, where he said Nigerian rappers are not popular in his home country.
According to him, South African Hip-hop is in the forefront of African Hip-hop in general. “It might not be as popular as it is in South Africa in Nigeria. But I know for a fact that the rappers from Nigeria are kinda unknown in SA,” he says. “If we talk about crossing over, I know that a lot of people in Nigeria know about my music. I know that in Kenya and Ghana it’s the same thing.
“I’m not just talking about me, I’m talking about the movement. Sarkodie is big in Ghana, but are there other rappers who are as big as Sarkodie from Ghana? The South African Hip-hop movement is big across, also in London, New York…we are out there performing in different countries.”
“Me saying that might offend people here. They might feel that I’m taking shots at Nigerian music. But that’s not the deal. If we are to discuss in terms of numbers and appeal across the world, it’s just the way it is.”
Reacting to M.I Abaga’s call to Nigerian rappers to infuse more rap into their music, Cassper said: “If I decide to rap on a beat like Davido’s ‘Fall’, which is more like Afro-pop, is it not Hip-hop? I don’t know, I’m not the one who came up with a set of rules. For me, it’s still Hip-hop because it is a rapper. I can decide to rap on anything. I just use it as a beat and rap on it. It doesn’t have to be a certain kind of beat.
“At the end of the day, it’s each to his own. If M.I feels like that’s his opinion, that’s his opinion. For me, anyone can rap in any language that is dope. If you say it’s Hip-hop, then it is Hip-hop.”
“I ask him about the popular trend in Nigeria where rappers tweak their artistry to become singers. Cassper says “It’s none of my business.”
Although, he also shares an important point: “I don’t think rappers must not sing. If you want to sing, you could sing. But if you are a rapper, we still need to hear you rap. You can’t sing all the time. We have to hear you rap because you need to rap for us to call you a rapper. If you sing all the time that means you are a singer now.”

All aggrieved parties should seek redress through constitutional means and respect for the rule of law.

President Donald Trump of America on Wednesday night announced the winners of his highly anticipated ‘Fake News Awards’ with CNN and New York Times emerging top on the list.
He described them as most dishonest and corrupt.
Trump crashed the Republican Party’s website on which he posted the list of the award winners moments after he tweeted the link announcing the winners, due to the high volume of traffic.
“And the FAKE NEWS winners are…http://ift.tt/2FPmn5A …” Trump tweeted.
Trump had on Jan. 2, said: “I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5 p.m. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!”
However, on Jan. 7, he said: “The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, Jan. 17, rather than this coming Monday. The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”
Out of the 11 ‘fake news reports’ listed on the award, CNN won four, New York Times clinched two, while TIME magazine, ABC News, Newsweek and Washington Post won an award each.
The full list retrieved from the archive of the website read: “The New York Times’ Paul Krugman claimed on the day of President Trump’s historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover”.
It also explained that “ABC News’ Brian Ross CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report”.
It added that “CNN FALSELY reported that candidate Donald Trump and his son Donald J. Trump, Jr. had access to hacked documents from WikiLeaks.
According to it, “TIME FALSELY reported that President Trump removed a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. from the Oval Office.
“Washington Post FALSELY reported the President’s massive sold-out rally in Pensacola, Florida was empty. Dishonest reporter showed picture of empty arena HOURS before crowd started pouring in.
“CNN FALSELY edited a video to make it appear President Trump defiantly overfed fish during a visit with the Japanese prime minister. Japanese prime minister actually led the way with the feeding.
“CNN FALSELY reported about Anthony Scaramucci’s meeting with a Russian, but retracted it due to a ‘significant breakdown in process’.
“Newsweek FALSELY reported that Polish First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda did not shake President Trump’s hand.”
“CNN FALSELY reported that former FBI Director James Comey would dispute President Trump’s claim that he was told he is not under investigation.
“The New York Times FALSELY claimed on the front page that the Trump administration had hidden a climate report.”
“And last, but not least: “RUSSIA COLLUSION!” Russian collusion is perhaps the greatest hoax perpetrated on the American people. THERE IS NO COLLUSION!”
The post also went on to list 10 Trump administration’s major successes, adding “while the media spent 90 per cent of the time focused on negative coverage or fake news, the President has been getting results”.
It said the economy had created nearly two million jobs and gained over eight trillion dollars in wealth since the Trump’s inauguration.
It said African Americans and Hispanics were enjoying the lowest unemployment rate in recorded history adding, Trump signed historic tax cuts and relief for hardworking Americans not seen since President Reagan.
“President Trump’s plan to cut regulations has exceeded “2 out for every 1 in” mandate, issuing 22 deregulatory actions for every one new regulatory action.
“The President has unleashed an American energy boom by ending Obama-era regulations, approving the Keystone pipeline, auctioning off millions of new acres for energy exploration, and opening up ANWR.”
The list also included that ISIS was in retreat, having been crushed in Iraq and Syria.
President Trump followed through on his promise to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and instructed the State Department to begin to relocate the Embassy, it explained.
“With President Trump’s encouragement, more member nations are paying their fair share for the common defense in the NATO alliance.
“Signed the Veterans Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act to allow senior officials in the VA to fire failing employees and establishes safeguards to protect whistleblowers.”
“President Trump kept his promise and appointed Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Trump’s concluded. (NAN)

The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday was thrown into a rowdy session as it was about recording the first official cross-carpeting for the year 2018, Daily Post reports.
Senator Sonni Ogbuoji ( Ebonyi South) had come under order 43 of the rules of the Senate to announce his official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Members of the PDP and APC didn’t allow Ogbuoji to finish when the floor was thrown into rowdiness, with the APC Senators dragging the new defector to their wing while PDP lawmakers scampered to rescue him to their wing.
Having brought the floor to decorum, Senator Ogbuoji, in a twist of event, announced that he was withdrawing his earlier announcement.
“I came under order 43 with the intention that I needed to make some declarations this morning. But my party, the PDP felt I had not consulted with them enough.
“So, because of the love they had shown to me in the past, I’m stepping down my decision to decamp”, Ogbuoji declared.
Responding, the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki who presided over the plenary, did not object to the withdrawal of statement of defection.
He said, in line with our rules, we cannot debate on this. But, Senator Sonni, I’m going to keep the whole day for you, in case you wish to come under order 43 again and perfect your defection,” Saraki said jokingly.

Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe has threatened to sue bride, Lawrentta Adesuwa Sawyer, and designer, Rikaotobyme.
The bride through her lawyer had accused Rikaotobyme and Mercy Aigbe of fraudulent conspiracy to convert their client’s property for “selfish gains.”
“The lingering ‘Red Dress’ issue continued this morning as the bride threatened to sue the designer Rikaotobyme and also falsely accused me of connivance with the said designer …..( without substantial proof or evidence )
Having served Rikaotobyme a letter tru my lawyer on Jan 8 to issue an official statement on the above subject matter with clear indications that I have never met her before or transacted business with her which she failed to do, I have instructed my lawyer to go ahead and seek redress.
For the bride, in as much as I sympathize with her, I take exception to her accusing me falsely and trying to cast aspersions on my person.
I have given the bride tru her lawyers 7 days to retract the statement that read thus; ‘the sequence detailed above has evidenced a deliberate and fraudulent conspiracy between the designer and Ms Mercy Aigbe to convert our client’s legal property for selfish gains’. This is a malicious allegation. Whao, where is the legal property I want to convert. What a statement. I hereby demand a retraction and public apology, failure to do so I will have no option than to seek redress in the law court by suing her ( the bride) and the designer for false accusation and trying to defame my person…….”
