ABUJA—A grand plot to remove Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, is in the works and is being allegedly championed by a former governor and a serving senator, Vanguard reports.
This is even as meetings are said to have been held to actualise the removal.
The plot was said to have been weaved around the former governor and other key players, especially on the roles they are expected to play.
It was gathered that the move may fail as senators already contacted are yet to fully commit to the plot.
A source said the minister, who is believed to be leading the move, is a former governor of an oil-producing state in the South South.
The source also said a serving governor from North-West and a close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, is also believed to be involved in the plot, even as the source said the governor from the North-West served as a minister during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, specifically between 2003 and 2007.
It would be recalled that Senator Isah Hamman Misau (APC, Bauchi Central) had at last week’s plenary, disclosed that a minister was leading a move to impeach Saraki.
A source also disclosed that at the meeting, where the plot was being carried out, four serving senators from the North who are said to be against the Presidency of Saraki were in attendance.
One of the senators is a former governor of a state in North Central.
It was also gathered that another senator who attended the meeting is a senator from Bauchi State, currently in a running battle with his state governor.
Also at the meeting is a front line rival of Saraki and one of those likely to be appointed as minister.
The fourth senator, who attended the meeting, is one of the longest serving lawmakers in the National Assembly. He is a principal officer in the Senate.
According to the source, the four lawmakers, including the minister from the South-South, a serving governor from the North-West, a top official in the Presidency named another former who was not at the meeting, to lead the impeachment move.
Outside Saraki, four other senators are also being allegedly targeted for ‘character assassination and destruction’ and they are Senators Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West; Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, APC, Niger North; Isa Misau APC, Bauchi Central and Shehu Sani, APC, Kaduna Central.
It was also gathered that senators who did not attend the meeting when contacted, were said to have advised the former governor of the need to have a united National Assembly ahead of the 2019 general elections, rather than come up with a destabilisation plot that will die on arrival.

One of the most celebrated artists and songwriters in Nigeria, Burna Boy has opened up on how he wrote 5 songs for American rapper Drake in one of his albums titled “More Life”.
The singer made this revelation during the listening party for his forthcoming album titled “Outside” which was held on Sunday, January 21st, 2017 at the We´re´ House in Lagos. He spoke on how he met with Drake in London and how their meeting led to them working on the project Drake was working on at the time, which turned out to be an album titled “More Life.”
According to the singer, he worked so hard to ensure that he only delivered quality materials for the projects. He said:
“I worked on 5 new songs for the project, and submitted them all.”
Burna Boy revealed that he got confirmation from Drake and his team that one of the songs he wrote named “More Life” would make it to the project but it came out in a different form on the album and it even went on to be the title of the entire album.
However, the songwriter did not get any credit for writing the song that went on to become so huge that it made the top of the Billboard Hot 200 album chart and broke streaming charts.
Burna Boy was featured on the outro of the album ‘Get It Together’, which was a remake of South African DJ, Black Coffee, and Bucie’s 2010 single Superman.
The new version had UK singer Jorja Smith, singing about fixing a strained relationship. Burna Boy’s More Life was reworked and sampled at the outro of the record and it was entirely different from the version that he had written.
“They told me they had picked it, but when the song came out it was…chopped.” Burna Boy said.
The singer said he has moved on from that episode and stated that the original version of the More Life song he wrote would be on his forthcoming album “Outside,” which is set for release on January 26th, 2018.

Democrats agreed to vote along with the Republicans to end the three-day stalemate after they secured assurance from Republican leaders to address the fate of young, undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers.
However, shortly after the vote to end the shutdown, Trump lashed out at Democrats, saying “they have come to their senses”.
The Democratic Leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer, said after the compromise with the Republicans that “in a few hours, the government will reopen. We have a lot to do”.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Schumer announced that he and Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Republican Leader, had “come to an arrangement” to adopt the three-week spending measure while continuing to negotiate a “global agreement”.
According to him, that agreement will include the fate of the Dreamers – undocumented immigrants brought to the country by their parents as children.
Monday’s vote came after a frantic weekend of work by a bipartisan group of more than 20 senators, who on Sunday night discussed a plan in which the government would stay open through early February.
This was in addition to a promise from McConnell to allow a vote on a measure to protect the Dreamers from deportation.
McConnell pledged on Monday morning that he would permit a “free and open debate” on immigration next month if the issue had not been resolved by then.
However, his promise was not enough for many Democrats, and on Monday morning, moderate Senate Democrats were still pressing for more in exchange for their votes to end the shutdown.
By noon, just before the first vote to end debate on the spending bill, the moderate Democrats were predicting passage.
“We’re going to vote to reopen the government,” Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, a Democrat whose state is home to thousands of Federal workers, said.
Warner said there was now a “path clear on how we’re going to get a full-year budget and we got a path clear on how we’re going to start an immigration debate”.
Responding to the development, Trump said: “I am pleased that Democrats in Congress have come to their senses and are now willing to fund our great military, border patrol, first responders, and insurance for vulnerable children.
“As I have always said, once the Government is funded, my Administration will work toward solving the problem of very unfair illegal immigration.
“We will make a long-term deal on immigration if, and only if, it is good for our country”, in a statement released by the White House.
However, the House of Representatives would still vote on the bill later on Monday evening but final passage would be just a formality.
The bill also funds the popular Children’s Health Insurance Programme for six years and delays or suspends a handful of tax increases that were to help pay for insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
The U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly on Monday to end the three-day-old government shutdown with 81-18 votes to reopen funding for the Fede...
