Nollywood actor Jim Iyke in an interview with Punch, Iyke described his music career as “non-existent.” He also has shared his reason for his brief foray into the music industry several years ago.
Iyke had in 2009 released “Who Am I” featuring 2Baba, and in 2010 followed up with “Born to Do This” featuring Puffy T.
He knew he had no talent in music, he said, but wanted to know how the industry worked. He said:
“My music career is non-existent. My mentor in business once told me that the biggest investment you can ever have is yourself; don’t ever go into a venture that you don’t understand. I was interested in music and like everything else that I have foresight for, I saw where the career was going. I knew I did not know how to sing but I wanted to invest in the business, so I decided to try my luck. I did it so that no one would ever tell me that I did not try or I do not know anything about music.”
Jim Iyke went on to admit that he knew his songs were bad.
He went on to question the number of talents present in the industry at the moment. Most of the less talented ones are far ahead of the more talented ones, he said.
“Of course, I knew the songs were bad; I am my greatest critic. I had to put some ‘swag’ into the songs that featured Tuface to sing one or two lines.
To be honest, how many true talents are in the industry at the moment? Most of the less talented ones are getting far ahead of the talented ones.”
According to him, It is not about having talent but understanding the business and project what works for you. He said It is all about the way you ‘package’ it and sell it to the world; that is all. “I can name a few terrible artistes but they are getting way ahead of the gifted ones. It is because they understand show business; I understand show business.”

Togolese-born and Nigerian-bred, music producer, Fresh VDM, who produced Davido’s 2017 hit song, ‘FIA’ and a couple of his other songs has bared his mind on what it is like working with the DMW boss.
According to him, it takes patience to work with him. “Working with Davido has been epic; it requires a lot of hard work and determination. With someone like Davido who gets beats thrown at him from every angle, you need patience, persistence and diligence”, he said in an exclusive chat with Showtime.
On the challenges he has had to grapple with working with the DMW boss who he described as a workaholic. He said, “with Davido, you have to be on your toes because he will not like every beat you make, not because it’s not dope but because it has to align with the ideas he has in his head. Also, he can call you at 2a.m and be like “Can you come over? There is this idea I have”, and you have to go to his house.”
He added that contrary to public belief, Davido is not arrogant, selfish, proud and snobbish like he has been painted.
“David is the sweetest and most caring person I have come to know. He has an amazing heart. People who don’t know him can hardly see it. He treats everyone as an equal regardless of your social status; he never looks down on you”, he said.
Fresh VDM has gotten thumbs up for good productions from the likes of American Drake and Stefflon Don. His most recent productions include ‘Ada’ by DJ ECool, featuring Davido; ‘DOE’ by Larry Gaaga, and the latest, ‘Mind’ by DMW stars, Davido, Mayorkun, Dremo and Peruzzi.

Sitting for hours on end is linked to nine more cancers than we thought, according to the cancer expert who is helping to re-write the exercise guidelines.
Charles E Matthews, an epidemiologist at the National Cancer Institute, warns we need more physical activity than we thought – but more importantly, we need to sit less.
Just one hour of TV a day puts even the most active of us at a higher risk of not just breast and colon cancer – which we already knew – but also nine other cancers including lung and head or neck.
Sharing the new research at a conference on Saturday, Dr. Matthews said swapping your Netflix show for a brisk walk or some housework could be a game changer.
“Watching TV is the major competitor to going out and being more active,” he told the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in Austin, Texas.
“Think of light activity and sedentary behavior as flip-flopping each other.
“This is where moderate activity like a brisk walk or things around the house come in. Anything that is not sitting is good.”
The latest physical activity guidelines for Americans, published in 2008, recommend ‘avoiding inactivity’, plus up to five hours a weeks of moderate activity and up to two-and-a-half hours a week of vigorous activity spread throughout the week.
Beyond staying trim, that exercise lowers risk of death from all factors, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Sedentary behavior is linked to early death from heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressures, falls, brain diseases, respiratory conditions and cancer.
Doing the minimum recommended – up to seven-and-a-half hours a week – reduced mortality risk by 20 percent in a recent cohort study.
But according to Dr. Matthews, it has become clear in the last decade that eliminating risk “requires much more activity than we currently recommend… around four to five times the amount.”
This year, the National Cancer Institute, a branch of the NIH, is publishing an update to the decade-old guidelines, to answer ‘a lot of unresolved questions that weren’t addressed last time’.
One of the most pressing things Dr. Matthews has been investigating is whether there is an upper limit to physical exercise. In other words: when do you plateau?
For the first time, they found that once you surpass 25 hours a week – around three-and-a-half hours a day – the effect is largely the same until you reach 75 hours a week, which is around the amount of time marathon runners train.
Even those who spend their evenings and weekends exercising, though, need to minimize their sitting time if they want to avoid sedentary-related health issues.
Dr. Matthews’ research showed there is no way to eliminate risk, and even those who get the recommended amount of exercise have a higher risk if they watch just an hour of TV a day.
Let’s start small, he said.
“Most people are sedentary 60 percent of the day. But that still leaves you four, five, six hours a day to be active,” he said.
“Clearly you get the most benefit by doing moderate or vigorous activity for an hour but there are many ways you can get up to a higher level. Reducing sitting and doing light activity can help.”

According to Aljazeera, president Donald Trump’s administration officials told the Associated Press news agency that Congress would be notified of the move on Friday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is reportedly being planned for mid-May.
The announcement means the move would come much faster than expected.
US Vice President Mike Pence in late January said the controversial embassy would open in 2019.
The US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem prompted angry protests in Palestine and solidarity rallies across the world.
For Palestinians, May 15 marks Nakba Day, or the “catastrophe”, when they commemorate the mass displacement of Palestinians to make way for the state of Israel.
Between 1947 and 1949, at least 750,000 Palestinians, out of a population of 1.9 million, were expelled from or fled their homes in Palestine.
Israel Katz, Israeli intelligence minister, thanked Trump for the announcement.
“There is no greater gift than that! The most just and correct move. Thanks friend,” Katz said in a tweet.
The United States of America has finally announced the date it would relocate its embassy to Jerusalem and would open in May 2018, to coinc...
Nigeria’s richest woman, Folorunso Alakija, revealed how she became a billionaire without a university degree in an autobiography she posted on her Instagram handle.
Mrs. Alakija who revealed that she was the 8th child out of a family of 52 children, said she had faced challenges and setbacks in life but became great as a result of her love for God.
She wrote: “I would like to encourage you on my encounter with the glory of God.
“It happened almost 27 years ago when I gave my life to Christ at the age of 40 and my life has not been the same ever since, I pray your life too, will experience a total turn around.
“I was born almost 67 years ago, into a large and illustrious polygamous Muslim family as number 8 out of 52 children through a father who had 8 wives.
“Back then, large families were common, but what was unusual was that I was one of the very first few Nigerian children who left its shores to go and study abroad at such a tender age of 7.
“Even at that age, I knew I could not afford to let my family down cause I was seen as an ambassador.
“My desire was to study law but my daddy did not believe in investing in girls at that time.
“Today, I have no university degree, but God’s glory lifted me up and I have received numerous Honorary doctorate degrees at home and abroad.
“All of what you now see today has taken almost two and a half decades, so I am not an overnight success. On the contrary, through God’s grace, I am a blood bought totally forgiven, absolutely redeemed, heaven bound child of God.
“I have had to make sacrifices like everyone else, faced challenges but never given up.
“I have not compromised myself, my values or my faith.”
