These youngsters are crowdfunding to finance their football team and to lead better lives
08:26Newton Samson, a Lagos based lawyer, shared the story of some kids in is neighborhood in Fadeyi, Lagos. How the role models for these kids are “agberos” (loosely translated to mean a commercial bus drivers or conductors but beyond that they are mostly uneducated and are at the bottom of the social ladder). And how these kids have a come together to make their dreams come true.
In his words:
Ok peeps gather around. I want to share a story with you guys. I want to share the story of Quadri and his quest for a better life.

So I came to Fadeyi two years back. And I was assaulted by the "Streetness" of the area. The most respected guys here are agberos.

We call them "alagbaras" they are "successful" in their own way and I realised that many of the young boys in this street looked up to them.

So I made up my mind to do something about the young chaps. To show them that there's a way much more different much more better.

So I started by befriending Quadri. He's a fourteen year old Jss3 boy nice and sharp but easily influenced by the environment he's in.

But I got to find out that there's a way to help not just Quadri but a whole lot of the young kids on the street. Their love for football.

Their love for football is so strong that these guys gathered themselves together to form a football club. They tax themselves N50 every day

Just to buy football and other training kits they can get. I got the privilege of meeting with these guys that are ready to sacrifice all.

So they call themselves Shinning Stars FC and it's the only thing that keeps them occupied and gives hope http://pic.twitter.com/ttqMJqG3Ik

Many of them don't have football boots, the keepers don't have gloves and they have a list of things that can help http://pic.twitter.com/NaU7TenLNp

Today I even found out they had girls playing with them Chioma( Aguero) and her younger Sister. http://pic.twitter.com/2ZSXDHKhZ1

The dream is to start a football clinic that would not only give them hope for a better tomorrow but also to teach them that tenacity pays.

And in conclusion.. these children would make it with or without us. But with us they stand a better chance of succeeding in life. Thank you
