13:42It’s the start of a New year and you should definitely up your style, this will increase your confidence and image. You have already thought of changing your wardrobe and hiring a personal shopper or hitting the gym to get that 6 packs, this is a not so bad idea. While you’re concentrating on dressing well and staying fit, you shouldn’t forget about your physical appearance which also speaks a lot about you. So before you hire that personal shopper or hit the gym, tending to your grooming needs is very important as a man.
Although, many men already know about grooming, there are still some grooming mistakes some men make or even take lightly. Physical appearance isn’t just about how you dress but also about how neat and presentable you are. What is your morning grooming routine? Do you have a grooming routine? These are important things men should do before and after they shower – if not every morning, but occasionally. While you may or may not have a grooming routine, you shouldn’t be making these grooming mistakes highlighted below and if you are, don’t feel bad but try to fix them.
1. Bushy Eyebrows
Having bushy eyebrows are not cool! You shouldn’t even be seen with them. Most men don’t see anything wrong with this, but you should always trim your eyebrows every now and then. Having bushy eyebrows doesn’t speak well about how clean you’re and it makes you look very old and unkempt. This is one of the grooming mistakes men take lightly. Walking around with bushy eyebrows draws unnecessary attention to that part of your face, imagine speaking at a business meeting or sitting at dinner with your date. It’s a big no, no and a turnoff for ladies. You can always do this yourself in the comfort of your home or visit a salon if you don’t want to do it yourself. Once they are trimmed, you will need to maintain them as well.
2. Haircuts
You should already know about getting a haircut. But most men still make this grooming mistakes a lot. You don’t have to be noticed or told when to get a haircut. Or better still, shouldn’t wait until your hair is overgrown or full before getting one either. Instead, try getting it trimmed every three weeks or even less depending on the growth of your hair. You should have a particular barber or stylist who knows about your style which will be very helpful for you. You won’t have to go through the stress of telling him how you like your hair cut. Many men don’t know this, women are very observant about things like you getting a haircut and they are easily attracted to this kind of men. This is a part of you people will always notice, so you should do well to keep your hair neat and presentable.
3. Pubic Hairs
It’s unfortunate that we still live in a world where men think it’s okay to keep pubic hairs. A survey suggested that women like chest hair also suggested that many women prefer men with a healthy patch of pubic hair – but not a forest. While men are busy obsessing with their looks, they have the tendency to overlook the grooming and hygiene of their private parts. Having ungroomed genitals can be an intimacy killer and unhygienic. While men expect their wives or girlfriends to keep her pubic hair shaved, there’s no reason for you to not to shave or trim yours, as well. You can keep them clean by trimming your pubic hair or shave them completely with care because male genitals are very sensitive. It is always advisable to use the right products.
4. A Visit to the Dentist
This may not be a Nigerian thing but a regular visit to the dentist is needed. You may not consider this as grooming but your dental hygiene should be at the top of your grooming routine. Many men already make this grooming mistake, neglecting oral hygiene is not good for your health and your image. A bad breath can kill your confidence. Do you take care of your teeth as well as you should be? A lot of men aren’t cleaning their teeth the way they should, they don’t floss daily or visit the dentist regularly. In order to improve your confidence and the way you look, you need to have a good smile. And having a stained teeth will have a negative effect on your confidence, appearance and image. Maintaining a good dental hygiene is very important.
5. Believing Grooming is For Girls
It is also good to understand that grooming doesn’t make you less of a man. Many already believe that grooming is too girly and not a manly thing to do. This misconception has made many men to neglect caring for themselves. Paying attention to how you look through looking after your skin, hair or dental hygiene isn’t going to dent your masculinity. If you think it does, then you should change your perspective and start a grooming routine. Taking time to address how you look and how you dress doesn’t make you less of a man or change how other men see you. In the past, men have always spent time grooming every morning, making sure they look and smell good and they cared about their appearance. This didn’t make them less of a man and you shouldn’t feel that way too.
The best way to avoid making these grooming mistakes is to have a grooming routine schedule. Getting a haircut every two weeks depending on how fast your hair grows, trimming your stubble daily, a scheduled visit to the dentist at least every 3 months will go a long way. When your grooming routine is scheduled and you stick to it, there will be no need for any embarrassing moments and these grooming mistakes will be avoided. Now that this is out of the way, you are ready to get on with your wardrobe plans for the rest of the new year. Good luck!
