Borno state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Inuwa Kubo, says Secondary schools in the state will reopen Monday, 26th September.
In 2014, the state government closed public primary and secondary schools after attacks on schools in Yobe state by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. Also in the Borno, Boko Haram terrorists kidnapped 276 female students from the Government Secondary School in Chibok.
While public primary schools resumed in 2015, secondary schools remained closed because IDPs took refuge in said schools.
Now that IDPs are relocating to their communities, the students can make use of their facilities again.
“I wish to announce that on Sept. 26, all public schools are going to be re-opened. I want to state that government has repaired all the structures damaged by the IDPs in the schools, to ensure comfort for the returning students. Parents and guardians should please make sure that they send their children back to school,” the commissioner says.
He also says the government is looking into private secondary schools whose management took advantage of the situation and hiked their fees.

The Supreme Court in Abuja upholds Yahaya Bello’s election as Kogi State Governor.
Headed by Justice Sylvester Ngwata, the seven-man panel upheld Bello’s victory at the November 21st 2015 election and the re-run held on December 5th 2015.
In a unanimous decision the court said the petitions against Bello lacks merit. This ruling also upholds the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the case in August.
Former Governor of the state, Idris Wada, former deputy governorship candidate of APC during the election, James Faleke, the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress all appealed against Yahaya Bello.
The Supreme Court will give the reasons behind the decision on the 30th of September.

A NIGERIAN journalist, Ahmad Salkida, yesterday, accused the federal government of rendering him homeless, saying he felt “duped” into speaking well of the government after he was declared wanted by the Army.
“I was made to say all was well,” Mr. Salkida said on Twitter moments ago. “I thought they were going to undo what they have done, but it’s clear the plot is to ruin my life completely.”
Mr. Salkida was among those declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on August 14 over alleged ties to the extremist Boko Haram sect. He returned to Nigeria on September 5 and was immediately taken into custody by the Department of State Service. Two days later, Mr. Salkida came out to debunk reports that he was arrested. “Contrary to reports, I was not arrested. I had very engaging conversations with officers. The atmosphere was mutually respectful,” Mr. Salkida said in a September 7 tweet. “The discussions opened useful insights that are benefiting to both sides on the discussion table. I wish to thank most especially family.” The Nigerian government and security agencies did not issue any statement about Mr. Salkida’s arrest, but the military had said in August that the journalist and his two colleagues were never declared wanted. Instead, the Defence Headquarters said they were invited to help with the war against Boko Haram. But Mr. Salkida, in his tweets, said the Nigerian government ruined his life by declaring him wanted while performing his legitimate duties as a journalist. “My life is ruined,” Mr. Salkida said. “I have been rendered homeless. I have been told that I have no rights at all, my family is scared. My crime is journalism. I have been silent. I have given leaders the benefit of doubt, but now it is time to fight back while I can. My life is in danger! “What kind of government will declare a citizen wanted for doing nothing but journalism, ruined my life and that of my family. Government just said ‘it was a misunderstanding,’ but to hell with you, you are on your own. What kind of government will do this to a harmless patriotic citizen.” Mr. Salkida’s comment elicited mostly sympathetic reactions from Nigerians. A human rights activist and social critic, Kayode Ogundamisi, said Mr. Salkida committed a “big mistake” when he came out to “cover up” for government. “We all knew it was highly unlikely that the Nigerian security agencies or soldiers, for that matter, would treat someone they’ve been looking for in such a nice manner as painted by Mr. Salkida after his release, Mr. Ogundamisi said. “Even if he were, he shouldn’t have come out in that blistering way. I have not seen a naive action of such a scale in a long time,” he said. Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, did not respond to request for comments.

THE convoy of Dr Idia Ize-Iyamu, the wife of the PDP governorship candidate was yesterday allegedly attacked in Iyamho, Estako West local government area of Edo State by thugs said to belong to the APC deputy governorship candidate, Philip Shuaibu.
A statement in Benin yesterday by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Chris Nehikhare, said the incident happened at Jattu market when the PDP women were campaigning from shop to shop educating the people on the contents of the PDP manifesto, tagged SIMPLE AGENDA and how to vote right during the election.
He added that during the enlightenment campaign, the market women were heard chanting “PDP!” and “Change the Change!” and this was said to have infuriated the thugs allegedly led by Philip Shuaibu who destroyed several cars in Dr. Idia’s convoy. This led to violence erupting in the market with market women burning any broom in sight, he added. However, Philip Shaibu in swift reaction distanced himself from the issue, saying that he is not known to have history of violence rather ‘’the PDP factional governorship candidate, Ize Iyamu has a history of violence. He, Ize Iyamu, in 1984 was expelled for bathing a fellow student at the university of Benin with acid, as SSG under Lucky Igbinedion Administration political assassination was at its peak in Edo State and in 2015, same Ize Iyamu led thugs to unleash mayhem on the Edo State House of Assembly.’’ Shaibu said he and other APC faithful were in a road show tagged: “Sweep them away” when the mayhem unfolded as PDP thugs sighted APC supporters sweeping the Jattu – Auchi road in Jattu market area and started throwing stones.

Nigerian Twitter had their hands full yesterday, when Afrovii wrote a thread on why Nigerians who lived in developed countries will make better leaders.
That reminds me of the movie, Osuofia in London– trying to think of the changes he brought to his community. But hey that’s fiction.
Here’s how she put it:
Oyinbo man don leave us behind. Far far behind. See ehn, it's a deep shame. And we are our own obstacle.

Because I'm obsessed with Nigeria, I see our failure in even mundane things. Sigh.

Nigerians, you people need to let us who've lived in a working system take charge of that country. International exposure is a prerequisite.
— T. Rankïn' (@AfroVII) September 19, 2016
I'm convinced that there's no way a Nigerian who hasn't lived and worked in the first world can change that country.

Of all of the ‘super foods’ on the market, coconut oil may just be the reigning champion of them all with an endless list of benefits. Organic virgin coconut oil has positive effects for every system in the human body, many of which have been tested and confirmed by scientific research. From skin care and weight loss to hormone balance and mental accuity, here we take a look at the top ten incredible benefits of coconut oil
1. Increased Energy
Unlike most other saturated fats, coconut oil is built primarily of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). These fats metabolize much differently than their long-chain cousins which are found in abundance in meat and dairy products. Digested MCTs are not stored as fat in the human body. Instead, they are transported directly to the liver where they are quickly converted into energy.
Consuming approximately two tablespoons of coconut oil every morning has been shown to increase energy levels by an average 5% in a twenty-four hour period!
2. Fight Infection
Medium-chain triglyceride lauric acid makes up about 50% of the total fatty acid content of coconut oil and is the main ingredient that makes this oil so amazing. Amongst all of its other myriad of health benefits, lauric acid is a powerful anti-microbial, killing viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and fungi by dissolving their cellular walls. Adding a daily serving or two of coconut oil to your diet can increase your body’s resistance to illness, improve digestive health, and even help to heal ulcers of the stomach lining.
3. Normalize Brain Function
When digested, MCTs travel directly to the liver where they are synthesized into keytone bodies. These chemical compounds have a positive effect on several brain disorders, most notably – epilepsy & Alzheimer’s (the most common form of dementia.) High concentrations of keytone bodies in the blood have been shown to reduce seizures in children with drug-resistant epilepsy. Keytone bodies also provide an alternate source of energy for cells in the brain which have lost the ability to process glucose, one of the main causes of Alzheimer’s.
4. Decrease Hunger
Keytone bodies formed by MCTs have the added benefit of reducing hunger and cravings. When eaten every day, a serving or two of coconut oil is a proven effective tool to help you feel full faster, avoid overeating, and snack less between meals.
5. Weight Loss
Daily consumption of coconut oil has been shown to help with weight loss, particularly around the midsection. By regulating appetite and improving digestion, coconut oil can make it much easier to reduce your daily caloric intake and lose weight at a healthy rate (around one to two pounds per week.) Because it is a natural mood enhancer, coconut oil may help you to feel more motivated and energetic which can also assist with weight loss. Coconut oil aids in balancing hormones that reduce stress and anxiety – two of the leading causes of excessive belly fat.
Just remember that coconut oil is high in calories. Limit your intake to one or two tablespoons per day so as not to unwittingly sabotage your weight-loss efforts.
6. Reduce Risk of Heart Disease
Disregard the old myth that all saturated fats are bad for you and a leading cause of heart disease. Coconut oil has been shown to improve overall cholesterol by simultaneously increasing HDL (good) and lowering LDL (bad) levels. It does this by helping the body to convert cholesterol in the blood stream into a usable form, thusreducing plaque build-up in arteries. MCTs in coconut oil may also work to reduce triglycerides, improve blood coagulation, and perform antioxidant functions in the blood stream, further diminishing the risk of heart disease.
7. Skin Health / Anti-Aging
Full of antioxidant vitamin E, coconut oil is a wonderful natural moisturizer that can help to heal damaged skin, reduce signs of aging, strengthen the epidermis against cellulite, fade stretch marks, and eliminate keratosis pilaris. Coconut oil offers natural protection from harmful UV radiation. It can even be used to prevent or heal microbial and fungal skin infections such as those that cause or exacerbate cracked heels and acne. Apply organic virgin coconut oil directly to skin for a soothing therapuetic experience that also smells fantastic.
8. Hair Health
Just as it does for skin, coconut oil can also protect hair from sun damage and dehydration. Massage organic virgin coconut oil into scalp and work through hair before visiting the beach or swimming pool to shield skin and hair from harmful UV radiation and chemicals, and to seal in moisture. When used regularly, coconut oil can also work to reduce or eliminate dandruff and other scalp irritations. Remember, with coconut oil a little bit goes a long way. Use about a tablespoon at a time until you get a feel for exactly how much you will need to moisturize your scalp and hair.
To learn more about how coconut oil can benefit your hair, read this article.
9. Better Nutrient Absorption
When ingested, coconut oil helps the digestive tract to better absorb fat-soluable vitamins A, D, E, and K. If you take supplements for these nutrients, consider washing them down with a tablespoon of organic virgin coconut oil. If the idea of swallowing a spoonful of oil makes you cringe, try using coconut oil in place of olive oil or butter when cooking or dressing your vitamin-rich veggies. The unique flavor pairs well with many leafy greens and because of coconut oil’s medium-chain structure, it won’t break down when exposed to heat. Coconut oil also makes a delicious addition to baked foods, smoothies, and desserts.
10. Stabilize Thyroid and Blood-sugar
MCTs in coconut oil assist in the conversion of cholesterol into pregnenolone – one of the building blocks for synthesis of human hormones such as those responsible for healthy thyroid function. A daily serving of coconut oil can also help the body to use insulin more efficiently and stabilize blood-sugar levels.
As you can see, coconut oil possesses a powerful list of health and beauty benefits and is an ingredient that everyone should have in their home. Not got any yet? You can purchase a jar of coconut oil from this page on Amazon.

There are plenty of natural remedies to combat cellulite, the sub-dermal fat stores that give an unsightly bumpy texture to the surface of skin. Cellulite is most common in women, but can also affect men in certain cases. While some people simply have a genetic predisposition for this type of fat, cellulite can also be caused by hormonal issues, environmental pollution, smoking, and build-up of toxins in the body. However, the one cause of cellulite that is most common is a poor or unbalanced diet.
If you are among the some ninety percent of women or ten percent of men affected by this condition, read on for some excellent food choices that help fight cellulite.
1. Water
The human body is composed of about sixty percent water. That said, it’s no wonder that dehydration can be a leading cause of cellulite buildup under the skin. Water is a necessary part of your body’s detoxification process. Not getting enough water often results in toxic buildup in the fat cells which can make them very difficult for the body to metabolize. Fat cells with high toxicity harden into the bead-like lumps that contribute to the ‘cottage cheese’ texture of cellulite. Dehydration also leads to thinner skin with decreased elasticity. When skin is weakened, it has a much greater tendency to show cellulite than when it is thick and healthy. So drink plenty of water and help your body to better metabolize fat, cleanse itself of toxins, and grow thicker skin which will reduce the appearance of cellulite.
If you aren’t sure how much water you should consume each day, use this calculator to find out.
2. Cucumber
Continuing with the theme of hydration, cucumbers contain more water by weight than any other solid food. Also an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, cucumber makes a great addition to sandwiches and salads, or for a summertime treat, try out some of these cucumber smoothie recipes.
3. Flax Seed
Flax seed is full of essential fatty acids (EFAs) that improve skin elasticity. Flax seeds contain lignans, phytochemicals that help to correct hormone imbalances which can lead to the formation of cellulite. Also, the many vitamins and minerals found in flax seeds increase skin health and thickness, helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Finally, the high concentration of fiber in flax seeds can help your body to metabolize fat cells faster, reducing their size and making them less apparent.
Because whole flax seeds are hard to digest, it is recommended to consume them pre-ground.
4. Tomato Paste
Tomatoes are high in lycopene, a nutrient that prevents the breakdown of collagen in the skin and promotes cell renewal. While you would have to consume about fifteen tomatoes daily to get enough lycopene to affect a noticeable change in your complexion, eating only three or four tablespoons of tomato paste a day will do the trick.
5. Gelatin
One of the best dietary sources of collagen, gelatin is known to improve skin health and cell regeneration. Regular consumption of gelatin also promotes healthier connective tissues which attach the skin to muscles and are a contributor to the bumpy appearance of cellulite. Also, because it is high in protein, gelatin acts as an appetite suppressant and can help you lose weight.
Make your own gelatin rich bone broth, check out this quick and easy guide by Nourished Kitchen.
Remember to use high-quality bones from organic sources to avoid inadvertently consuming more toxins with your broth.
6. Sea Kelp
Fucoxanthin, a secondary plant pigment found in sea kelp has been shown to help the body better metabolize fat. Smaller fat cells mean less apparent cellulite. Alternately, if you don’t like the idea of eating kelp, you can also get fucoxanthin in supplement form.
7. Pineapple
Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, an anti-inflammatory that also helps to reduce cellulite by boosting fat cell metabolism. Enjoy half a cup of cubed pineapple as part of your breakfast, for a refreshing mid-day snack, or for dessert. Also remember that while bromelain can help you to lose weight, pineapple juice is still full of sugar. When it comes to pineapple (as with most anything) too much of a good thing can still be bad for you. Finally, while pineapple juice does contain bromelain, eating the fruit is by far the better choice as it is also a great source of fiber.
8. Lemon Juice / Cayenne Pepper
Vitamin C in lemon juice is great for improving skin health while the capsaicin in cayenne pepper improves circulation, both of which help to reduce cellulite significantly. If you can stomach it, drinking a tea of lemon and cayenne three times each day for a few weeks will have a noticeable effect on the volume of fat cells and the texture of cellulite. Lemon and cayenne tea also helps to cleanse and detoxify the body, making it an excellent food that fights cellulite.
To mix lemon and cayenne tea, squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a cup (about four ounces) of warm water then sprinkle a thin layer of cayenne pepper on top. For best results, drink this about thirty minutes before each meal.
9. Green Tea
Green tea is a powerful thermogenic, meaning that it assists in the accelerated metabolism of fat cells. Also, the anti-oxidant EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) prominently found in the green tea has been proven to increase energy levels and mental clarity, making it a great addition to any weight-loss effort.
The best form of fat-busting, energizing, antioxidant-rich green tea is matcha – the same ancient powdered tea once used by monks and samurai for health and mental clarity!
Also, check out this article for more information on the incredible health benefits of drinking matcha green tea.
10. Coconut Oil
Daily consumption of EFA-rich coconut oil can help you to melt away cellulite and reduce its appearance by increasing metabolism, reducing hunger, and strengthening the overlying skin. Remember, coconut oil is high in calories. To maintain healthy weight, limit yourself to two tablespoons per day.
11. Dark Leafy Greens
To close up this list, let us revisit the topic of hydration (it’s just that important.) In addition to their abundance of water which helps the body to flush out toxins, dark leafy greens like spinach, chard, and kale are also rich in fiber, antioxidants, and minerals that promote healthier skin, faster cell regeneration, improved circulation, and more efficient fat metabolism. To reap the benefits of these powerful veggies, enjoy three to four servings (one cup uncooked, half a cup cooked) of dark leafy greens every day.
